That whole lighter tone with "hero" federation characters was pure shit in MP3 and I'm baffled that they're doubling down on it here. I've never seen a single person say they actively liked that in MP3 lol

Never ceases to amaze me when devs are so deaf to what people liked and didn't.

There's a reason MP1 is an all timer and MP3 pales in comparison.


All that said, nothing in the actual 7 minute trailer suggests this guy sticks around throughout the game, so fingers crossed.

yeah, most of the trailer shows samus firmly alone, so i feel like these npcs probably appear for relatively short parts in each biome, seems rescuing them in fairly central to the story.

hopefully you find them, do a couple coop puzzles and then they're on their way.


rest of the stuff looks solid imo, loving the art design of these biomes and the music sounds fantastic.

I'm hoping they all get killed off within the first few hours. I really don't want to deal with rescuing federation soldiers the whole game.

You know damn well there will be a new soldier introduced in every new area and they'll all unite to help Samus in the climax/final boss. It will be very reminiscent of Infinity War and we will all hate every second of it.

Yeah, this definitely looks like a huge potential misstep. Having bland open world-bike sections pales in comparison to this in terms of negatives for me..

Hopefully it's not as bad as it seems.

The problem is that he's obviously not lying about the things he's seen, and we can still read that and not want them in the game. Companions, hints, and focus on NPCs and things like that, open hub world etc.
We can take his "inflammatory" response/feelings out, and have our own conclusions about the negatives mentioned. It doesn't change the fact that they exist lol.

Even the overview trailer today is clearly putting an emphasis on companions and working with them. I don't want a game (in a franchise known for being about solo exploring and isolation) to be about rescuing survivors and escort missions.

Metroid is all about isolation and exploration, I don't think having an NPC accompany you for a few minutes in a 20hr game would change much.

I agree, but the fact that the Nintendo overview trailer they put out today has a section dedicated to the NPCs and working with them, makes it seem like they're doubling down on it unfortunately

Its. According to a person that was in the preview presentation, NPCs are just a small portion of the game. The solitary gameplay still intact and bigger.

Maybe but the overview trailer shows multiple Federation characters that are talking in cutscenes or doing stuff in the game and that's in addition to this bumbling tech guy mentioned in the negative preview.

That stuff is quite a notable element of the trailer. It feels very movie-like.

Those snippets from the previous trailer were the things that most concerned me about that one (most of everything else looked great) and now this new trailer has way more of it.

I want games to be focussed on being games, not on aping the medium of cinema.

I love the hugely improved production standards here, but I don't want to be sitting watching lots of cutscenes, listening to lots of dialogue with melodrama, being followed by annoying NPCs or any of that.

Like you I really hope that all of this stuff is a very minor element of the but even if it is the stuff described in that preview is just flatly negative through and through.

to say I'm craving something like Prime 1 and 2 - particularly Echoes personally - rather than 3 would be a huge understatement

Yea I mean I was honestly just trying to be as positive as I could possibly muster after that straight-up shitty preview lol.

Prime 1 is one of my Top 5 games, I want nothing more than a fantastic Prime 4, but it's real hard to stay positive. It's just every single time I read something new about this game it's a Homer Simpson DOH! moment.

It seems pretty likely that they're going to be popping up throughout the game.

You can compare the backgrounds and Samus' suit etc in the footage to see that the soldiers including Mackenzie will be around later in the game.
