Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

Some devs really need to understand that goofy cartoony characters in a serious game feels waaaaaay too off, Final Fantasy 16 had funny moments within the game's tone and it was great (Clive meeting his uncle for first time, and even some uncle's moments)
I think that's exactly the intention of this character in this game…

Other M was the next 100% mainline game and was a game far inferior to Prime 3 (and almost every other Metroid), which had plenty isolation itself past the intro and just like this game will after the 5 minutes of interactions with each new character are up, the bonkers bs we're reading here, lmao.

Besides the wonky controls due to being tied to the Wii, I liked Other M. Found the story more interesting than the other Metroids. Guess I'm one of the few that don't mind seeing Samus interacting with others. Probably because media outside of the videogames for IP interests me like this:

I wish we could see more interactions with the Chozo and other sentient aliens.

already decided to buy so not going to look at the latest trailer. I tried not to look at too much of the previous one either. And tried to forget what I did look at. And haven't thought about the game at all.

so Kirby Air Riders gets two directs and overview trailer meanwhile Prime 4 only gets an overview trailer and there's no sign of Prime 2 and 3 remastered f you big n/
Not the same type of game, with this overview trailer and a release trailer is enough, probably the real fans of the series are going full blackout mode until the game is released.

This is the first time I actually feel some actual disappointment towards this game.

NPC's feel like a real mixed bag. IGN also seems to be making a big fuss, though it sounds like the section is less than 30 mins long.

I liked how Prime 3 did it, and I felt it added to the experience. So hopefully they stick with that route. I will not be surprised if Sylux massacres them all lol. Just like what happened in Corruption.

"They're coming over the side of the bridge!"
"Try your missiles to hit them off of the bridge!"
"That door just opened by itself!"

Like, shut the fuck up. The only acceptable reason for this pipsqueak being in this game is if you can blast him into the atmosphere at some point.

Whose taint do I gotta lick to get a Metroid with Returnal gameplay and graphics?
I still maintain that Returnal felt more like a modern extrapolation of Super Metroid in terms of atmosphere and art direction than anything Prime, no matter how much I love those games. Not saying it's better than Prime games but just purely in terms of atmosphere and art. I played it and was like Nintendo...please...

If the turd dies, it's game over apparently because we're back to escort missions with characters who hide and scream a lot. Also even when he disappears, apparently he harasses you remotely via comms! Yay.

100% is going to happen in the future, probably they are preventing a saturation. Is the smartest choice IMO.
same sadly I think the best case scenarios we get two on the GameCube app in a remaster of 3
the only reason I say sadly is cuz we get it on the GameCube app we won't get the Kick-Ass quality of life and ruins we got the first remaster

Eh. I just wanna know if this silly shit lasts for an hour or two out of twenty or if it's a pervasive issue. I'll wait for impressions and reviews. These elements sound dumb as fuck but MP3 was still mostly great imo for example.

PS: What fucking wacko named a Metroid character Myles MacKenzie?

I totally understand the people saying wait and see, and I intend to. I'm getting the game. But it's very concerning seeing them promote this aspect of the game heavily in the trailer, and we can reasonably expect there will be a new person to meet in every new area based on logs shown in preview footage. So this isn't a one and done thing. This will be a recurring part of the game, even if it's not a large percentage overall. I just don't like how it interrupts the flow and takes you out of the immersion and isolation that most of us enjoy most about the series.

And honestly I wouldn't mind it nearly as much if the dialogue wasn't so clearly bad and ill fitted for the experience. I thought the culture had collectively moved past the cheesy marvel quips…but I suppose those writers are still being employed…It's to the point where it's just insufferable when you still see it. So while I really hope I'm wrong, my expectations were dashed by this far, far more than any barren open world desert might have made them.

MP3 did have more federation soldiers than I'd like but they quickly get corrupted and become pretty cool boss fights which works for the game. And I thought the rest of that game was awesome (better than MP2 IMO which kind of went too far in the opposite direction). All three games make for a lovely trilogy.

Really, the part that's most worrying about the sidekick dude is that even after you drop him off, he comes in on your radio or whatever. Which makes me think it's a new mechanic for the game. I do not need nerdy quips being whispered in my ear when I'm trying to immerse myself in an alien planet!

Granted, this fucking dialog was probably written ten years ago when it was apparently peak awesome comedy to be a smug, meta dipshit.

I lost it at "The Ability to Jump".

Looks fantastic, even though this is originally developed with Switch 1 in mind. I do wonder what this game could have been if it was a Switch 2 exclusive.

I hope that this is just a game to bring in newcomers and revive the franchise and that they do the really exciting stuff in the sequel. Because this feels very safe for a lack of better words.

I know a lot of fans hate that game but that game deserves a remaster.

I hope so, but from the IGN preview they were guessing -- based on some submenus that show character bios, with a lot of blank entries -- that you'll likely meet a new federation helper character like this one in each new region as you go.

And there's three regions (shown at least) so I guess that could be even less than the "handful" of characters I mentioned there 🤷‍♂️

IGN/game journos, lol.

I don't mind the anime version of Samus at all, neither in the manga nor in Other M. And I don't care at all about the "you ruined her in Other M by making her less badass" crowd, who cares about that anyway.

But I do think that what I'm calling the narrative and anime take on her is a bit incompatible with the "isolated space horror" genre of the original core games. I need them separate. I can't have all the dialogue and jokes or whatever and then settle into an experience like Super Metroid or Prime 1.

I think we more are referring to the speedy third person shooting with a little melee. Thats exactly how Samus should fight and what they tried to convey in Other M.
I love the Prime series for the level design, puzzles, slow pace and atmosphere… And Retro is top tier in that aspect, Returnal is amazing, and one of my favorite PS5 game, but other than the atmosphere and futuristic settings and don't see the relation.

Finally some marketing. Overview looks great.

This video made me cancel my pre-order.

Well fuck.

Who asked for Metroid Prime Four-Spoken?

These Federation Troopers suck. I bet they end up all dying after all the "One last mission and imma retire" and "I got a family back home" talk.

Gimme some more of this
