Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

I have a really bad feeling about this.

Again, the character is clearly designed to be hated… And looks like is working amazingly well.

Looks amazing

… until thay federation trooper part

Wtf?!

There is now only one way to save the game

1. Samus meets them
2. They are chatty and jolly marvel style
3. They get killed in a horrible way to set up the threat

Only net positive with the focus of teamwork is a Galactic Federation bonus campaign or a Federation Force mode. The Mecha robots could easily be similar to the Mech's Troopers control in Federation Force. Although I'd rather be piloting those large mecha in the intro.

R rkofan87 Each Trooper has their own motivations for surviving. Family, Retirement/Family/Vacation, getting the Band together(friends?) and don't care much for the Engineer. I'd prefer Isolation or have a more serious tone. Sylux hates the Federation so he will probably destroy them all. Given we only have footage of the goofy Engineer...who seems to be a pretty bad one I'd hold off on mocking the rest.

I understand that but my head Cannon Samus would not give a shit about any of these folks she's a solo Bounty Hunter not some team leader.

Why wouldn't she give a shit about the federation when she opted to serve in its military and still takes contract work from them. She probably knows a lot of people personally, if they weren't KIA.

Found more gameplay footage.

Holammer Holammer Seems like it. Metroid Other M 2 may not be far off the mark. At least the game is looking like a traditional Prime experience and will be more Zelda...then Zelda in terms of puzzles.

I predict the female soldier is going to be some kind of Samus fangirl and there's going to be some legendarily unbearable lines that will be memed to death for years.

Remember how Twilight Princess had that team that Link would interact with along his journey? The federation trooper inclusion here reminds me of that. I'm really open-minded and optimistic to this.

Looks awesome! Still not interested in the motorcycle and empty Hyrule Field traversal, and your companions, hopefully it does not comprise too much of the game. This confirms what we were expecting though, it's more Metroid Prime - which is a great thing! Definitely some modern conveniences implemented, and the upgrades look fun. Lore and scanning still a thing!

I am curious if there is some kind of spoiler related to the Sylux amiibo unlock, or else why block the release until the game's street date, yet allow the Samus/Vi-o-la amiibo to be sold before?

Every series has a weak entry somewhere, not all the Halo games were stellar, not all the Metal Gear games were stellar either...same could be said for Mass Effect as well

Retro: *introduces a bunch of side characters that talk about their families*

Samus: *only family is dead adoptive parents and dead adopted

Something I've noticed in modern games is making sure the player always has some sort of side kick or tag-along. It started with Navi, King of Red Lions, Ghost, Atreus, Claptrap, etc. Developers, or perhaps publishers, are so afraid of letting the player get lost and god forbid have their own adventure without someone constantly chatting at them about what to do next or where to go. IIRC Prime 1 even did this with subtle hints if you took too long to make any progress, but it was very unobtrusive. I worry that we are going to be more Other M than Prime with the catalogue of characters that will be thrown at us.

Average time to beat a Prime game is around 10-15 hours or so, and with the number of characters we've seen and the seeming importance of them, I have a feeling we will almost always have some companion or another during the game. I just wish Nintendo had the balls to go back to what made Metroid 1, 2, and Super so special. Lonely. Dark. Oppressive. It was you versus the world, and it felt fucking amazing when you beat the odds and did it in record time.

But yeah, no, I hope Samus can finally learn the power of friendship and working together and our real family isn't decided by blood but by the people that stand by us.

Still day 1 tho.

It started with Navi
Navi was the best IMO as it was limited to just a couple callouts of "Hey listen", "Hey", "Watch Out", "Hello" and generally was where it made sense and wasn't intrusive.

Mackenzie on the other hand makes it so jarring to turn Metroid into Anti-Metroid since it's about being Isolated from everything else and will make it hard to enjoy the Atmosphere with an eccentric reacting to everything and annoying you over the radio.

As long as I don't have to do super tight timed diagonal jumps, I'll give it a shot.
There's nothing like that in the game.
No Souls influence, but bass battles can sure be a bitch.
That's fair, some of the Dread bosses did give me a Hollowknight vibe.
Like Hollow Knight? You mean like Super Metroid? And Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? Both of which don't have (or need) any Souls influence...
They were asking how Prime games compared to Hollowknight/Ori.

I mean that's kind of the problem for a lot of us. We don't want to know their story. We don't care. That's not why we're playing the game.
We? I don't have any issue with that… And the tutorial NPC is like that for obvious reasons… If the game doesn't have any talking character then the discussion probably is going be… Prime 4 doesn't have voice acting, oh no Nintendo is in the past with their games.

After watching a a few scenes with that Myles guy, I see this as another attempt at Retro and Nintendo trying to make the series more cinematic. Simply to draw in more of an audience. I don't blame them and I've been all for it since Prime 3.

Tonally though the dialogue from Myles sounds like it really came right out of the MCU. Which I dont necessarily dislike, it has its place in those films. These characters remind me that there is supposed to be a whole universe of people in the lore of Metroid that interact and speak with one another and probably as mundanely as real life people. Seeing that interaction with Samus is the weird part but then again I take the OG comic as Metroid-gospel and there are few things there that wouldn't be out of place with this Myles dude.

I guess I'm already warming up to it. However, I don't want this guy or the others interrupting gameplay or spoiling things in obnoxious ways throughout the adventure.

Brother I mean this with all due respect, I don't know your history with the series….but no serious fan of the prime games would have that complaint. This isn't Pokémon. The strength of the series is the isolation and story told gradually through the environment and scanning things. And obviously the amazing gameplay. I don't give a fuck why this dude doesn't like sitting next to Phil in the office.

A lot of people here are disliking the secondary NPCs and I directly blame these two games: Other M and Federation Force.

Those games poisoned the well.

Federation Force should have been a higher budget "Republic Commando" game of the Metroid franchise. Make the player slowly care more and more about this squadron who is simply trying to survive and fulfill a mission, while being unsure if they will make it out alive because at the end of the day they're just grunts.

Then you would use that goodwill to inject one or multiple of these guys into Prime 4, and make the player actually care about them "making it home alive" or "retiring after this mission".

This isn't a deal breaker but it does feel like wasted potential.

All of that is intact in this game… 🙄.

Studios layoffs left and right, games take ages to develop and people are still crying for ultra realistic graphics. Game looks great, more than good enough. If the majority of GAF had it's way the game would lose money and the developers would be laid off.

Gameplay and art style any day of the week. Fantastic way to end the year for the Switch 2.
