Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

I've seen multiple previews.
We've seen MULTIPLE NPCs talking and tagging along. Even the overview trailer says that we will help Federation Force troops during our journey.

You really think this is it ? Even hat annoying NPC, you will interact with him again because he has to repair the mech. We're going to have to suffer him for a long time I believe. And there's the others NPC.
In a game about 12 to 15 hours of play time to completion, I bet those NPCs are going to take half the time. One for each region.

So you know, as soon as you meet someone you're not alone anymore... so the feeling of isolation goes away... :pie_eyeroll:

But keep protecting your Nintendo game, we all know you here. You're not even a true Metroid fan.

Well you know what you're getting into. They aren't hiding it. Will you be in the OT complaining about it?

No plan on getting the Switch 2 until a new good Zelda comes but Metroid Prime 4 looks amazing and easily the best one so far. Love the extra interaction with NPCs and a bigger world. I'm hoping this will allow Metroid to become a big selling franchise breaking the 5 million mark and becoming much bigger. I dislike the big open world Zelda games like BOTW, TOTK but for Metroid it's having the opposite effect. Easily my favorite Switch 2 game so far.

We? I don't have any issue with that… And the tutorial NPC is like that for obvious reasons… If the game doesn't have any talking character then the discussion probably is going be… Prime 4 doesn't have voice acting, oh no Nintendo is in the past with their games.

we're just concerned that's all

and people say the Federation for season 3 were too bad I can't play three legally cuz Nintendo won't allow me to do so.
give me those remasters now damn it

I don't care what anyone says, I liked Other M. Was it perfect? Heck no. But I actually enjoyed the faster paced action sections of it. It was...different, yet still very much Metroid.

Great game and best characterization of Samus too, even if there was a lot of awkward dialogue. Shame OM bombed so we'll never get anything like that ever again.

Navi was the best IMO as it was limited to just a couple callouts of "Hey listen", "Hey", "Watch Out", "Hello" and generally was where it made sense and wasn't intrusive.

Mackenzie on the other hand makes it so jarring to turn Metroid into Anti-Metroid since it's about being Isolated from everything else and will make it hard to enjoy the Atmosphere with an eccentric reacting to everything and annoying you over the radio.
I think instead of Metroid Prime 4 they should call it Metroid Prime for babies lmao

I'm in the minority too--I can't stand the stupid roaming around in open world games like TOTK and BOTW. I have never liked open world games and don't understand why some people do. I am an adult with adult responsibilities. I don't have hours and hours to "traverse" in a video game world just to get to the next objective.

Same. I liked how the animations made Samus look fast and snappy, it was really needed after the slower paced Prime games. I also remember tons of people never using the dodge when transitioning from aim mode to 3rd person mode, it's a super cool mechanic.
from the footage I saw on the reviews it looked like a lot of fun

Another problem with putting more and more dialogue (of any quality, although it's bad here) into these games is that you're going to run into the above.

Then the temptation for the developers and their writing team will be to address this disconnect. Then you're going to end up with lots of Samus dialogue about her feelings, arguing with characters or whatever.

Does that sound good?

It seems you have no idea what you were talking about.

Geometric complexity - MP4 exhibits superior and higher complexity from character models to environmental structures than Halo 5 and Shadow Fall
NPCs, take a look at screens again.

I'm having a tough time believing that people are impressed by these character models in 2025? Killzone Shadowfall came out 12 years ago.

The lowered expectations in this thread…

What's idiotic about complaining about something you don't like?

You're in here complaining right now and you know that this thread is currently mostly people expressing concerns about this.

Would you describe yourself as an idiot?
ignore him he's just white knighting for this game super hard

oh god even arlo hates it and he is a die hard.

I was surprised too... that intro was hilarious tho.

I think everyone is scarred by recent Sony games, and to potentially have that shit in a series that is almost defined by you being isolated and having to traverse a mysterious environment in solidarity... that scars a motherfucker... even people who usually have a very positive outlook like Arlo 😭

shit shit shit

the more I see the more worried I am

maybe after 20 seconds of looking around, every environmental puzzle will have its clues explained by annoying tag along characters like a sony game

A tag along NPC is bad enough but in the most recent Tomb Raider trilogy Lara herself would start telling you how to do the puzzles if you didn't solve them quick enough.

I find it infuriating when they put this stuff in games. At least make it an option you can turn off.

I'm telling you,
games need an option that is not an easy, medium, hard, very hard choice... but simply ask "are you a gamer" with a simple yes and no choice... if you say yes, NO YELLOW PAINT, no puzzle spoilers, no insanely intrusive tutorial texts etc.

but right now, in many games it seems you only have a choice between "are you retarded or retarded but with good hand eye coordination?"

this I mean they already have accessibility options just add that to the accessibility.

Other M feels genuinely great to play. Extremely fluid and satisfying.

It's an uneven game for sure, but they absolutely nailed third person Samus in 3D.

Way to cherry-pick my dude (I'm too lazy to look for a better SF screenshot but it's a blatant manipulation).

Let's look at X360 swan song called Halo 4.

Personally to me MP4 looks kinda weak even by X360 standarts, especially in technical art department. And previews are refreshengly brutal for a change, wow.

It's about on par on with Halo 4. Which isn't bad. What was Halo 4 running at on 360. 30fps 720p. Prime 4 is running at 4K 60fps. Thats a massive jump in GPU demand while maintaining similar visuals. If Prime 4 was designed around running at 30fps 720p on this hardware, it would look way better than Halo 4. Like Star Wars Outlaws, Cyberpunk, and Assasins Creed Shadows running on Switch 2 look way better than Halo 4. You cant have everything.

We're going to talk about cherry picking while providing CGI/in-engine cutscene models? The actual in-game models are nowhere close to those.

Can you please at least provide a direct feed instead of a bad YouTube screencap?

But you're getting all worked out around a game with lame technical art, it's a way worse problem than polygon count.

You think lighting, shadows, polygons etc. will suddenly snap into place if it's a direct feed? Just boot up the game on the 360.

I'm just saying, those aren't the in-game models. Whether you think the art is better or worse is up to you.

This character would fit right in Outer Worlds 2 that I am playing right now.

Looks like they have put a lot of effort in writing/ animation. But not sure if it suits the franchise.

Kinda like how there were some Pixar moments in DA Veilguard. I kinda enjoyed it cause it was a departure from Origins, and those moments didn't felt out of place.

They also put a lot of effort in changing tone of that franchise. Not sure what Nintendo is going to do here.

I took at the look at the non cutscene gameplay. Metroid's environment geometry is as basic as it gets. It's significantly less complex than Shadow Fall. Its basic af with poor textures for the level of hardware it's running on.

There is absolutely nothing impressive about Metroid's visuals. Not even one thing. The switch 2 has cyberpunk, star wars outlaws, and other graphical demanding games running on it. Those look no less than 2 generations ahead of metroid as well.

If i were at my computer, id also take the time to cherry pick screenshots. However, I couldn't be bothered to. You're free to believe what you want, the game looks very poor to me. Not pokemon levels of poor but not far off either.

The idea that anyone could be impressed by these visuals in 2025 is head scratching for sure.

I think it's a very attractive game, personally. I fantasise about what might have been possible if it was a Switch 2 exclusive, but it still looks great.

Both specifically as a (fundamentally) Switch 1 game and just in a general graphical sense.

Man, this thread is the definition of a hyperbole. Even od writing is bad, even if McKenzie doesnt die a horrible death, for 99 percent of playtime this is still gonna be a great Metroid experience. And the game will win or fail by other metrics than its NPCs.
