Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

At least there's a mute option for voice acting if it gets really bad. I've seen some previews where they turned that on because the NPC was talking constantly over the OST while exploring.
Probably not an option since voice acting for story bits, my compelling need to hear the suit say "added to logbook" at least for first run.

Mozza Mozza Myles is definitely for the first hour a tutorial thing but given how the game is designed you'll have a buddy system in parts of the game in every biome most likely. However given how much focus they are putting on this I'd love it if they had a Federation Force component as a separate unlockable mode kinda how you had Multiplayer Death Matches in MP2.

When it comes to Fed Force I imagine the game would be much better if it was not annoying with Stylus/ Touch control gimmicks and had Metroid Prime artsyle instead of chibi artstyle that put off so many.

I could definitely see a sidegame featuring what these Troopers are doing during Samus's adventure instead of either being exposition or being a manner of acquiring upgrades.

I'd play the crap out of a Metroid Themed DRG or SW Republic Commando kind of Co-OP FPS.

You'd have a healthy medium of having Samus Campaign being more exploration and puzzles with less action and for the Troopers less exploration and puzzles but more action.

Guys after playing halfway through a review copy I can safely say this game picks up exponentially after you get the assless chaps and accidentally murder your federation companions via the motorcycle wheelie move said chaps unlock.

Spoiler, samus

Did i miss the nudes?

The metroid fanbase right now has become more annoying than the guy they won't shut up about. Full videos of gameplay without the dude and they ignore that to keep doom posting about how it's going to ruin everything.

Environmental interactions and puzzles.

The Japanese site just be causally dropping spoilers

Retro has never released a game worse than 9/10 but it's been a long time since they released a game, period.

Hopefully it's great. I preordered it.

I haven't seen any Switch (1) previews, but this should give a rough idea:

Docked mode: 900p@60fps
Handheld mode: 600p@60fps
(Pretty much the same as Metroid Prime: Remastered)

Docked mode (quality): 4K@60fps
Docked mode (performance): 1080p@120fps
Handheld mode (quality): 1080p@60fps
Handheld mode (performance): 720p@120fps

if this is still 60 FPS on switch one I'm going to be shocked

It's about on par on with Halo 4. Which isn't bad. What was Halo 4 running at on 360. 30fps 720p. Prime 4 is running at 4K 60fps. Thats a massive jump in GPU demand while maintaining similar visuals. If Prime 4 was designed around running at 30fps 720p on this hardware, it would look way better than Halo 4. Like Star Wars Outlaws, Cyberpunk, and Assasins Creed Shadows running on Switch 2 look way better than Halo 4. You cant have everything.
What? The Switch 2 is 3 generations newer than the 360.

The graphics in MP4 are the graphics and they are very average by today's standards — it has nothing to do with being "designed" to run at 4K/120. The reason 4K/120 is possible is because MP4 was built to run on the potato that is the Switch and Nintendo held it back for a cross-gen release to make the Switch 2 launch window more impressive.

You are saying that like resolution and framerate doesn't have an huge impact on the GPU. As I said Halo 4 is a 30fps 720p game on the 360. Cyberpunk is a 720p 30fps game on the Switch 2. See the big difference. Now show me what a 4K 60fps game would look like on the 360.

Nerds dumped all over Other M for petty reasons and I thought it was a fun game.

If Retro had ever made a bad game before I might be worried, but they haven't. Pre-order is staying put.

Well you know what you're getting into. They aren't hiding it. Will you be in the OT complaining about it?

From the announcement, I was fed up with the fact that for a new 3D Metroid, it was yet again a Prime one.
We have more than seen what the Prime series had to offer with 3 episodes, with each sequel dropping in quality.
The gameplay of this subseries was fresh in 2002, immersive, but not anymore, it feels archaic.
It was great (at least the first 2 episodes for me), with great art direction (still is with MP4), great OST, a contemplating feeling but didn't really capture the dread, pressure, sci-fi horror and none of the original mix of platforming action shooter the 2D series was known for.
As a result of it being FPS, a lot of power ups we took for granted in the series were scrapped (speedbooster, shinespark) and spacejump felt so wrong in MP2... The only it actually expanded was the X ray scope... yay

How about translating the original Metroid 2D series correctly for once ? Other M was a little step in the right direction with the gameplay, that was ultimately borked by the wiimote. The rest was allegedly shit or very mid (level design, ost, art direction). Not to mention the baby and restrictive Adam.

How about we get a 3D third person Metroid, like Returnal for the gameplay, with good platforming, but with all the quality the original series is known for ? I want Super Metroid translated in 3D for once...

I joke about this game saying its a Halo clone and whatnot, but the one thing I am excited for is playing with joycon mouse mode.

I know a lot of fans hate that game but that game deserves a remaster.

I wouldn't consider myself a the franchise, but I really enjoyed Other M. The gameplay was awesome.

I am not a fan of the NPC/Marvel interaction..but the game looks good

This

Say what you will about the story and cutscenes (personally, I didn't give 2 fooks) but the gameplay was flashy, fast and with the right amount of backtracking...
It was also one of the best looking games on the Wii at the time.

This, at 4K60fps, with edited/re-recorded cutscenes where they'd cut all the "the baby" shit off would do well imo and personally, I'd buy it.

Anyway, off-topic :

I've restarted Metroid Dread last night for the 3rd time (This time I'm going to finish it, I swear) and...WHY THE HELL Nintendo hasn't released a NS2 patch yet I'll never understand, it's one of their 1st party, bread and butter franchises for crying out loud, game plays well but that low resolution is just a no-go on a 55" TV.
I really dont get it...

They only care about updating Mario and Zelda. Even Captain Toad has more priority than Metroid AND Xenoblade.

I think many people have forgotten how Halo 4 and 5 looked on xbox consoles.

yes I know Zelda is more popular than Metroid.
it still doesn't explain what we don't have the Wind Waker Twilight Princess 2 pack.
and yes I know I'm being salty
Man…I need some Wind Waker HD on Switch in my life.

Wtf am I reading about Other M…yeah no, you're delusional to think that is a good game. Absolute trash Metroid game.

I've never actually played Other M. I was sick as hell of Wii control gimmicks at the time so I never picked it up. Kind of forgot it exists until this thread.
The story is just as godawful as people say, and the handful of pixel-hunting sections were irritating, but the game itself is enjoyable.

Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked to see it get a 4K re-release down the line, if only because the Switch 2's mouse mode makes the first person aiming gimmick work again (maybe even better than it did on the Wii remote). I do wish they'd bring someone in to re-write it and just chop up the video they already have to make sense with new dialogue. The dynamic between Samus and Adam is just too weird.

Just goes to show that the OG creator isn't always the best person to carry a series forward, at least in corporate art.

No plan on getting the Switch 2 until a new good Zelda comes but Metroid Prime 4 looks amazing and easily the best one so far. Love the extra interaction with NPCs and a bigger world. I'm hoping this will allow Metroid to become a big selling franchise breaking the 5 million mark and becoming much bigger. I dislike the big open world Zelda games like BOTW, TOTK but for Metroid it's having the opposite effect. Easily my favorite Switch 2 game so far.
That's because your arm canon is not going to break every 30 shots fired.

Looking good, except for the companions. Literally had to look away when they showed up. Giving me other m vibes mixed with federation force. But, hey, maybe this means steep promotions soon.

They simply need to add an option to skip cutscenes.

If the game is not a boring, confusing back-tracking mess, I'll run to get the game. However, like every Metroid, it will likely be full of a LOT of backtracking.

Of course, good backtracing is why Metroidvania games are good. Getting a new skill and unlock a lot of things you saw earlier: best feeling. 😍
