Siliconera - I knew I'd like Kirby Air Riders, since I enjoyed the GameCube original, but I didn't expect this game to feel stronger than Mario Kart World. It's so enjoyable and robust. There's room for both racers on the Switch 2, of course. But if I had to pick a favorite and never touch the other game again, I'd pick Kirby Air Riders every time. 100
Screenrant - For me, Kirby Air Riders manages to stand head and shoulders above Mario Kart World as one of the definitive racing games on the Switch platform. 90
Atomix - For those feeling nostalgic for the GameCube version, I promise you'll have an amazing time; it's the same concept, but executed almost to perfection. 90
Vandal - It's a video game that might initially seem off-putting due to a lack of understanding: it's difficult to grasp what's happening if you just walk past the screen without having played the game before. Even in the first few matches, it might seem simple or chaotic . 88
Gamesurf - Kirby Air Riders is pure adrenaline! It's the return that few expected but many longed for. A game that combines accessibility, style, a good level of customization, numerous challenges to tackle, and an infinite amount of content. The game's spirit and numerous game modes offer variety and a fun-filled experience. 85
Gamespot - Kirby Air Riders is an impressive package that makes the most of its deceivingly simple mechanics. Air Ride delivers a solid kart racing experience; Top Ride is a fun--albeit a bit straightforward--distraction; City Trial is chaotic in the best way possible; and Road Trip ties it all together with its creative encounters and satisfying progression. 8
IGN - I'm not sure what's crazier: the fact that Kirby Air Riders exists, or the fact that it's this great. It's a blast in local or online multiplayer during its traditional races and unique battle mode, and its frankly absurd amount of fun achievements to chase, meaningful unlockables, and deep customization makes it great for solo players, too. 8
Metro GameCentra - The most baffling Nintendo release of recent years, with a quasi-remake of one of the GameCube's worst games, that seems specifically designed to irritate and confuse would-be players. 4/10

It's weird game. It's Kirby so you would expect it to be something like a Mario kart light but it's a complicated very fast and twitchy game.

No one gave a crap about the original kirby air riders. I used to see it sitting on store shelves as a kid back in the day because no one was buying it nor wanted it. The game just has basic and boring gameplay that gets stale after a few hrs and everyone knows it truthfully.

My kids really loved the demo. It's so much faster than Mario Kart World.
Oldest one is celebrating his birthday soon, it''s going on his gift wishlist.

Is it the same Metro guy who reviewed Hyrule Warriors? What a shitrag.

Game feels a bit sandwiched between releases, might wait a bit before buying this one.

Care anyone to explain the spain meme?
As a spaniard myself I don't get it so I think must be forum related. Maybe sales related?

I've never been a fan of Sakurai whom I think is quite overrated, but the reviews of this game that nobody asked for are overall pretty good. Still not a game for me though.

I'm not 100% sure myself, but I think it's because the UK and Spain are especially dominated by PlayStation, and you constantly see threads about UK and Spain numbers here. I could be wrong, though.

Main issue seems to be longevity of the game and side content being hit or miss. I think it looks pretty good but I don't want to drop $70 on it.

Spain sales numbers have been posted here for a few years now but recently it has been the subject of console warring because of console sales favoring one console vs another. Some folks started mocking it when they didn't like the results and it turned into a meme.

Thanks for the explanation.
Spain is PS feud for a long time I can imagine so I can see how spanish sales can be weaponized by fanatics. Nintendo has always seen success with their portables here anyway.

Let's be real, this is not a game I would ever trust reviewers about. Is on another league about most AAA releases out there, is pure arcade action with huge amounts of deeps mechanics, most part of gaming journalists can't even move 2 sticks together without huge difficult.

Kid Icarus: Uprising was 83 on Metacritic and is a masterpiece.

Game seems a bit hardcore for journalists and players alike. I also fail to understand appeal of such titles a lot of times.

Though Nintendo did tried hard to explain its appeal in a couple of hours worth of directs.

If they couldn't do it in that amount of time, not sure if its worth it.

It was just a single Sony fanboy pushing it. The absurdity of it is why it turned into a meme. No one takes Spain sales seriously.

Sakurai: The game is not the same as Mario Kart.

Metro Central reviewer: Anyone can start playing Mario Kart within seconds, especially if they turn on auto-accelerate and auto-steer, but with Kirby Air Riders you're first encouraged to play an 11 step tutorial.

KAR has always been an acquired taste. A lot of players (and reviewers) didn't gel with its auto-accelerate, pinball-around-the-track style of gameplay. Many of them (erroneously) thought the game was "too easy" when they could "finish a course without touching the controller," completely missing the point of the game and its mechanics. That said, it's slippery and chaotic and not for everyone. City Trial is fun but you're basically just looking for power-ups until your machine becomes a screaming berserk banshee that runs roughshod over the entire map in seconds.

But I really like the original and the new demo so count me in.

I enjoyed the playtest and I'll be buying it. If you go into it expecting Mario Kart you'll be disappointed. Much like Smash Bros the controls are an acquired taste, but once you get it then it's a lot of fun.

Kid icarus:uprising was overrated and had the worst control scheme of any game I've played. I bought it for my 3ds and my hand was cramping considerably cause of how junk the controls were. It was a mid game with bad controls.

All this talk about Kid Icarus Uprising makes me want to go play more Kid Icarus Uprising. Fantastic, huge game with Nintendo's most underrated cast of characters. And the sexiest Mimic enemies ever, as evidenced by my avatar.

Played the demo and it just wasn't for me. Not sure if I was missing something but it felt horrible to play. Not gonna cry over spilt milk when Hyrule Warriors just came out and Metroid Prime comes out in two weeks.

I am glad that Sakurai got to make what he wanted, but to me this is one of the biggest examples of "opportunity costs" in gaming development. This game's existence takes away from way more exciting projects he could have done.

Didn't they just give it a lengthy overview trailer and major Press event?? Also I've seen multiple commercials and irl ads....what more do you want at this point?

Unfortunately I think Metroid Prime 4 won't be as good as the original trilogy and Nintendo is pushing it out in december to get it out. Seems like the game is only seeing the light of day to make good on a promise because the backlash of cancelling it would be too large. I am excited to play it and I will buy it day one; however, I am being realistic. The writing is on the wall regarding the qualit of that game. I will gladly eat crow if it reviews high.

Honestly I wouldn't even want a Direct focusing on MP4. KARs is a multiplayer-centric replay-focused game with a bunch of little modes, details and unlockables that aren't really spoilery. MP4 is a one-and-done single-player atmosphere-driven adventure; even the 7-minute overview revealed a little more than I'd like to see (such as naming all the major zones and showing a few bosses). There's only so much of a game like this you can show before release before you're showing too much.

Different types of games… You can't make a 20 minutes Prime 4 direct without entering in the spoilers territory, in the other hand, even after two directs some people doesn't understand the gameplay in Air Riders…

I'm on the fence. I'm looking for something different to play, but the price is a bit steep for what this offers imo

Every glowing review: This is so much better than Mario Kart!

Also, look at all those review outlets not wanting to go against the Mario Kart dogpiling bandwagon.
Meanwhile, watch KAR sell 1/250th of MKW and people screaming injustice.
