I'm a 2D Metroid fan so I'll like to see that next.
I am definitely more into the side scrolling series and want Metroid 6 most. The sequel has so much potential too…

These are couple themes it could tackle:

Samus' hybrid DNA being that of a human, Metroid, and both Chozo tribes.

How her DNA's power is now extremely desirable by Space Pirates & the Galactic Federation, also a real reason to go rogue.

Seriously? I'm still waiting for MP4 to arrive.

But ok I like 2d or 2.5d games more these days so another 2d Metroid or a 2.5d version like Link's Awakening with a look to fit Metroid tho.

Metroid Fusion sequel.

New 2D Metroid
- not 2.5D but real 2D
- NO parrying system, no melee nonsense
- core Nintendo team
- focus on horror feel and isolation again

And just to be contrary to all the I need Samus to be badass girl boss people, I'll happily take an Other M sequel
- establish Other M line as a permanent spinoff series
- but better mechanics, true first party
- unabashed anime style and tone, completely over the top
- waifu Samus all the way

And for a Prime follow-up I want
- Prime game where it's not a planet, but exploring a massive, terrifying ship that is found derelict in space
- no organic this time, just tech/space horror
- Alien vibe

Tanabe is destroying Metroid with Federation Force & Prime 4.

But Sakamoto since Other M is still keeping it alive with Samus Returns & Dread imo.

I didn't play Dread, but I found Samus Returns to be agonizing to play through. It felt like an indie knockoff of Super Metroid, except AM2R was actually better. Unfortunately, their 2D stuff doesn't do it for me at this point, either.

They're both equal in my eyes. Other M was almost a franchise killer itself, regardless of what happened afterwards.

  • Metroid Prime 5 & 6 - More in-line with the classic games, please. i.e. less yapping and more interconnected environments.
  • Super Metroid remake - Has aged poorly and could do with a facelift.
  • Metroid Prime 2 & 3 remastered - Would like to see at least Prime 2 get the remaster treatment too but seems unlikely at this point.
  • Zero Mission remake - I have some nitpicks but the game is already fine as is.
  • Fusion remake - Likewise already fine.
  • Metroid 6 - Sure. The future.
  • An all new attempt at a 3D TPS entry - Sure, if anyone wants to take a stab at it.
  • Meteoid Other M reimagined - Let garbage rest.

I'm between 6 and another Prime, or maybe a new series with third person with late 90s vibe

Federation Force MMO. Create your own soulless Federation member. Roam around an empty desert with both fully-voiced in-game dialogue and kids yelling racial slurs at you. Grind to unlock new motorcycle mounts, and buy extra colors from the cash shop. Break rocks for days on end to level up your mining skills. Team up with other players to progress through fully linear dungeons where the boss has a 1 in 100 chance of dropping the elusive Samus's Autograph home decor. Prove your virtue as a True Fan (tm) by hitting the level cap before everyone else and remaining subbed during the massive content drought that follows.

Other M 2. Give it to Team Ninja, keep Sakamoto and Tanabe out.

Make it the most action packed Metroid ever where Samus is at its coolest. Fuck the series tradition, I want to see Samus being cool as heck dispatching monsters left and right with insane combat animations and tight gameplay systems.

For a more traditional Metroid, I would like to see Retro Studio quickly iterating with Metroid Prime 5. Keep the same engine, keep the dev time short (3 years) and go back to the roots with a game more similar to Metroid Prime 1 and 2.

My man, you know what's up. :messenger_bicep:

I will reserve judgment for a bit. Let's see how the masses review Prime 4 and how well it sells.

If MP4 does not sell well, then maybe it is time to retire the "Prime" series and try something else.

Another thought i have had recently. What if, Nintendo considered the next Metroid game as a RPG? Maybe like Fallout 4?

I know many consumers want Metroid to be an action game like Other M or a Zelda clone. That may be the way to go, but maybe considered all angles.

I'll take some of the mechanics of Dread and expand on that. The parry was alright, if a little overused, and I didn't like the EMMI stuff by the end, but it was a great base to start a new trilogy of 2D Metroid games.

Metroid Prime 2&3 remaster. There's plenty of 2D Metroidvanias alteady, there's still no 3D Metroidvania that did it as good as the OG Metroid Primes, with focus on exploration, a mystical world, great gameplay and good graphics.

HD - 2Dfy Super Metriod with improved controls.

Call it Special SNES Switch 2 Editions.

Nintendo GET INTO HD 2D and revive classics IPs with it.
Even lunch it as an App on the Eshop.

Keep that hold shoulder button to switch to missile garbage as far away from Super Metroid or any future game as possible. Bring back diagonal aim lock.

Nintendo must license the IP to House Marquee, so the franchise could truly reach new heights.
Nintendo and Retro are too incompetent to create something masterful. Nintendo lack ambition to create, they only want to cash and milk their IPs, Miyamoto will be their last true visionary.

This series has the worst fanbase, I absolutely love Metroid but I really don't think they deserve another game, so if it dies it dies.

I want a sidescroller Metroid, but with the Wayforward animation style. Think something like the Aliens DS game they released years ago. The 2D/3D look sucks imo. I wasn't really a fan of Dread either.

How about a game, or a mini-series, with Samus doing actual bounty hunting?
Before the Metroids. Before the Ice Beam, the Power Bomb, and all the usual arsenal. I mean, she was "the galaxy's best bounty hunter" before Mother Brain and the Metroid saga. Show us how she came to get that fame.

A more action-y type of game, not as hectic as Platinum's games, but still a bit faster than usual. Smaller, separate missions you can take on in any order, or make it like Megaman where there's a "correct" order you have to discover by playing. Find some weapons and items that don't integrate with the Power Suit, so there's no problem with Samus not keeping them at the end of the game. Or hell, get rid of the Power Suit and show us Samus before she acquired it. Not necessarily in the Zero Suit, but something different for once. The character has potential beyond the Metroid saga and all its tropes.

  • Metroid Prime 5 & 6 → I want to see this series evolve a first person action series and bring to the exploration the agility other first person action games have been developing since Metroid Prime 3 came out
  • Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remastered → The first one was stellar, if they can do the same for the other 2 it will be great. MP2 specially would benefit from it with it's dark style.
  • Metroid 6 → It just has to happen, right?
  • An all new attempt at a 3D TPS entry → now that many popular third person action games feature lock on battle systems I think they could try this.
  • Metroid Other M Reimagined → this has also great potential. Being able to use a full gamepad for this would open up the gameplay a lot and the oportunity to rework the entire story should not be overlooked, Samus a a character was dragged through the mud in the original.

Dread sequel, that Metroid DNA wakening has soo much potential.

Yeah…I think I want this more than anything else Metroid for the time being. It has a lot of potential to be even better than Dread.

Those that didn't love Dread, but love 2D Metroid. What are you hoping for? Besides just wishing Mercury Steam to be off of it, who would develop it instead and which direction would you like to see them take the series?
