Assetto Corsa Rally

Okay, at 67% res scale I get about 90fps without frame generation and ~155fps with 2x frame gen.
But with FG I suddenly get tearing again - looks like GSync/Freesync doesn't go well with FG.

So the 90fps without framegen actually look more stable smooth than the 155fps with framegen.

At 58% res scale the framerate is 100-110 fps which seems to be the sweet spot for me. Guess I'll stick to that with a 100fps limit.

At 50% res scale I get stable 120fps but the gfx definitely look better at 58% (while I don't really see a notable quality difference between 58% and 67%).

Thanks for the help.

Update: Gave frame gen another try and got it working without tearing:

Freesync Overdrive in Monitor settings: Balanced (to prevent overshooting frames which lead to tearing)

FPS-limit (NVCP or RTSS): 156 (Max minus 4)
FPS-limit in game menu: off

VSync in NVCP: ON!
VSync in game menu: off

Now the experience feels perfect! Always smooth and no artifacts at 140 to 156fps.
Also could up resolution scale to 67% again.

Framegen is the way to go after all.

Yeah, this new 0.2 update is broken. You get a hard frame spike every 40 or 50 seconds, no matter what you do. Even in the menu those spikes manifest.

YES!! We need a good hardcore Rally sim. There hasn't been really anything since Richard Burns Rally.

I still think that Dirt Rally and 2.0 are some of the best rally simulation games available that aren't just arcade racers. Assetto Corsa Rally seems like a spiritual successor to the Rally Dirt games.

Take a look at the 0.2 Update Launch Trailer for Assetto Corsa Rally, a high-fidelity racing simulation game developed by Supernova Games Studios. Players can now access a new update for the game, bringing snowy and iced surfaces with the new scenario set in Livigno (Italian Alps), a new and legendary Rally car, overall bug fixes, and performance improvements. The 0.2 Update for Assetto Corsa Rally is available for PC (Steam).

Really bad release. Every 40, 60 or 90 seconds there is a severe frame spike, no matter the settings or where you are. Even in the menu screens it still manifests.

No wonder this game feels like DiRT Rally IV - Colin McRae/Dirt/Dirt Rally devs are part of the dev-team Supernova:

Google AI said:
While not the exact same team, Assetto Corsa Rally (AC Rally) developer Supernova Games Studios has strong links to Codemasters' DiRT Rally heritage, with many key figures coming from that background, creating a spiritual successor that uses Kunos Simulazioni' physics for a hardcore rally sim experience, bridging the gap for DiRT fans seeking more depth. It's developed by Supernova (founded 2021) in partnership with Kunos, utilizing AC's physics but aiming for DiRT's challenging, realistic feel.

Key Connections & Details:
  • Developer: Supernova Games Studios, a newer studio formed by veterans from the DiRT series, including ex-CMR (Codemasters Racing) developers.
  • Spiritual Successor: Many see AC Rally as the "DiRT Rally 3.0" that Codemasters couldn't make, filling the void after EA's WRC.
  • Technical Partnership: They partnered with Kunos Simulazioni (AC's creators) to adapt the physics engine for rally, using Unreal Engine 5 for visuals.
  • Hardcore Simulation: Aims for uncompromising realism, focusing on weight transfer, tyre grip, and mechanical damage, similar to the DiRT Rally ethos.
  • Not by Kunos (ACC): It's distinct from Kunos's main Assetto Corsa Competizione/Evo work, though Kunos provides the core physics foundation.

Actually EA WRC is Dirt Rally 3 (it even has some in-game textures with the text Dirt Rally 3) so this is basically in fact Dirt Rally 4.
