The Game Awards 2025 marks the first time when Microsoft got more awards than Sony.

I mean, they couldn't win anything with two - the most boring sequels imaginable: DS2 and GoY. Both games could be expansions to DS1 and GoT.
Not winning awards is not any sort of indicator of quality, so it's not like your opinion is being supported here as much as you believe. That's faulty logic.
What games Sony have for next year, GaaS trash, Saros and Volverine? Saros will be interesting for sure but I doubt it will be less niche than Returnal and Insomniac has a lot to prove after that trash Spider-Man 2.
Saros, Wolverine, Tōkon (which is not 'trash'), Marathon, other stuff that will not probably get nominated like Exiledge, and then any other unannounced titles.
Your argument still comes down that winning awards is the ultimate sign of quality or, as stupid as it REALLY sounds, quantity. Just accept that your original post made no sense and move on.

If i was a dev, getting an award for accessibility would feel like a slap in the face, ngl.

Like nobody gives 2 fucks about your game but great menu options tho :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

And what the fuck games for impact even mean?? Biggest impact for crushing and burning and bombing?

Safe sequels didn't win anything, and you can see quality of those games based on MC score as well. They were nowhere near E33 or Hollow Knight 2. DS2 is a good game but it didn't meet the hype surrounding it and GoY (to me) was just... ok.

To me all MP and GaaS games are trash, be default.

And yet they were still great enough to get nominated in the first place. Carry on.

So, entirely subjective on your part and not of any relevance to the subject, sure.

But they weren't great enough to win ANYTHING. This year was mediocre when it comes to Sony games, DS2 was supposed to be mega hit but Kojima didn't deliver.

Spot on. Sony basically, on the whole, have really failed to deliver this whole generation so far. Not saying everything they;'ve released has been shit before any of the SDF comes after me. But really, it's been an extremely disappointing gen for Sony so far for me.

Sony continues to disappoint more and more this gen.
i called it at the start of this gen, but i was called chicken little. thankfully almost all of those morons are now banned.

The moment Miles and HFW were announced as cross gen, i knew the age of Sony being that ambitious boundary pushing company were long gone. As soon as Jim Ryan refused to confirm Ragnorak as a PS5 only title at the PS5 launch, i was like yep its over. This is no longer a serious company. They are just like every other soulless corporation that values profits over innovation, artistic vision and pushing the industry forward with visuals that couldve rivaled Hollywood this gen.

Something changed after 2020 and i cant even blame Jimbo and herman for all of it. They gave Sucker Punch and Kojima 5-6 years to make a next gen only game and they both released cross gen looking glorified DLCs. The artistic vision itself has disappeared. You cannot win GOTYs when your artists have lost that drive, that hunger, and the ambition to be the best of the best.

Faulty logic again, that just means that there were other games that were ultimately even better received. What's the thought process behind determining that GOTY caliber games just falling behind other GOTY caliber games means that they are mediocre?

Also, funny how we got to a completely different discussion to what you originally said:
Sony barely releases games these days.

Yes its sad but we all have to agree with you at that point.

Only Naughty Dog is the latest chance from Sony to have a big artistical hit this gen, all other PS studios (except maybe little Asobi) appear to be creatively dead.

Outside of Elder Scrolls and maybe Clockwork Revolution if it's Bioshock levels of good, is there any announced Xbox Game Studios games that could even be a future GOTY candidate based on what we've seen so far? I'll play the hell out of Forza Horizon 6, but games like that don't win those. I figure Gears E-Day might be good, but Gears of War hasn't won a GOTY award since 2006 so I'm not betting on it to be a GOTY candidate. Maybe Fable if it knocks it out of the park? But still waiting to see more from that.

They shouldnt have been nominated. I think the year was mid as fuck, hence the Hades 2 and Silksong nominations. Problem is this was MS's biggest year and as mid as DS2 and Ghosts 2 are, MS's output was even more mid. Avowed, Indy, Doom, Outerworlds, South of Midnight Call of Duty were all exceptionally mediocre. Nintendo also had a big launch year with lots of games, all exceptionally mid. So DS2 and Ghosts 2 got selected by default.

It's a battle of mid between the top three publishers this year. If it wasnt for indepedent devs like Warhorse and Sandfall, this wouldve been one of the most mid years of any generation ever.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I only see 2/Two/Zwei/Dos Sony games on nominee lists:

+ HD2 for ongoing game and Wolverine for upcoming game. So was I wrong with:

Sony barely releases games these days.

This is kind of why I hate modern entertainment, because mediocre stuff gets elevated higher than it deserves simply because it got more exposure.

Makes me wonder how many truly great games/movies/etc. I'm missing out on, due to not getting a lot of publicity.

It's not like every single game of theirs will get nominated. Lost Soul Aside did not even get to Best Action Game, sadly.
Most publishers barely get more than 2 games nominated. Nintendo, for instance, only got Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.

Kinda sad to think that despite having the multi-award winning GOTY day #1 on their service, they didn't hype it and in actuality tried to bury it by putting it out next to another RPG they had higher hopes for...

M$ did shit but Sony did worse, that's true(though I'd argue as a standalone game, Yotei is heads and shoulders above the MS entries, but with issues vs the last entry).

Yotei was a fine game for me but my bro didn't hang. He loved the first, so even though I liked the "game" part better than the first, I think the story killed it for many. It also felt paint by numbers.

Bananza saved the year for Nintendo. That's really the underappreciated game by most on here. Many have no Switch 2 to play it, but it is just too good. Really a killer app for the console. Too bad the IP isn't as respected as Mario, because the game is guuuuuudddd.

Dispatch was my goty at the end of everything. E33 was number 2. Best TGA ever and one of the best years in gaming on record.
