Vince Zampella, video game developer behind ‘Call of Duty' franchise, killed in crash

I might be a pussy, but there's no way I'd yolo it out of a dark tunnel. Speed and cars are fun and all, but I try to drive like worst case scenario is always a possibility. Freak accidents or malfunctions notwithstanding.

Man this is gut wrenching. Just one wrong choice ...and snap.
No lol, that's just survival instinct

Yea you can have that viewpoint, but not very tactful in a thread about his death man

I'm sorry? he killed someone. that was literally manslaughter.

imagine someone running around a public space with a running chainsaw, then tripping, and accidentally killing himself and someone he ran by.

why is it different when that happens when the dangerous object in the story is a car instead? in both scenarios someone did something reckless with a potentially dangerous object.

One of the first rules of racing is that you don't rip it on roads you're unfamiliar with. This isn't Gran Turismo and there's no do-overs. A senseless end.

Damn, RIP. Super talented and dedicated guy. The industry is worse off with him gone.

That crash was savage.
I didn't turn on the audio.
Looks like he managed to hit that one opening in the Jersey barrier in the worst way possible.
That car was tore up like a can of Coke.
Seeing the passenger still in his seat with the seat ejected is also crazy. Fabricated and been around enough track cars to see what goes in to making your seating position and the hardware required to keep you in there in case of a crash...I wonder if the forces in this crash were just too much that all of it went out the window or these cars aren't really built to handle a track speed crash.

Another video, shows more of the turn. This one happened to be an accident as well..

yeah, that tunnel needs a lot of signs posted everywhere warning of this sharp turn. it needs a max 25 mph limit as well as some flashing signs and proper guarrails instead of that retarded brick wall.

the local government really fucked up here. this accident was 10 years ago. if only they had acted after this accident.

Dude had the special sauce, but was honestly muzzled at EA. Tragic turn of events for sure, would've loved to play more single player campaigns from the guy who brought us MW2...

Some people get excited with speed and go fast on impulse.

I am the opposite, I never drive to the point where I can't react to what's in front of me. That's driving one on one. If that video is real and it's really Vince, then you have to wonder what he was thinking, he has a bunch of kids, and had a passenger, it's unthinkable for me to get in a sports car and go through tunnels like that on public roads.

But of course, it was an accident. I can't imagine his kids having to hear this news ahead of christmas though.

It was an accident, yes he was going too fast but if you watch footage of that tunnel it's dangerous as hell and you have no way of knowing until it's too late

Having sharp turns immediately after the tunnel exit shouldn't be allowed. And haven't they heard about metal barriers on the outside of sharper corners? They could disperse at least part of the force from the crash.

Obviously in this case high speed was the main cause, but it's still a very easy spot to make a potentially fatal mistake - you get distracted, there's bad weather, you're older and your reactions are slower - there could be many reasons.

Man, he was a key figure in leading great entries in massive franchises. Last game I played from him was "titanfall" and the games feel was great as with mw1 and 2. I remember him and Jason bieng ousted as huge news back in the day. I'm going to miss his touch on the industry.

Damn...RIP.

This man is an FPS legend. He's behind some of my favorite shooter franchises. Just brought Battlefield back from near irrelevancy as well.

Sad news. 😔

No, it needs drivers to not be selfish idiots and speed through it.

It's California, the reflection of the setting sun off the sign warning you about a fucking 90 degree turn on the immediate exit from the tunnel messed with the mating habit of a slug drawing them to the road to be run over.

The metal barriers for safety would have blocked a historic migration path for mountain goats and thus couldn't be built.

You need both, sometimes people will make mistakes and you gotta have some rails to prevent them from driving into the rockface. But, of course, when you drive like he did there is no excuse for it.

Dang, I wonder how the 10's of thousands of other drivers make it through the obvious death-trap on a daily basis?

Using someone's death to pat yourself on the back, the hallmark of a great person.

Rip, but after seeing that other video...

What a poorly signposted curve! In a sunny day you can easily get disoriented, and probably at night you probably couldn't see jack shit until you are at the apex.

There's simply no speed reduction or caution sharp turn ahead signpost.

There should be at least a speed reduction signs and those ground grooves that serve as an audible warning when you are approaching a dangerous zone.

There is video floating around of a Ferrari speeding out of a tunnel on the Angeles Crest Highway and crashing into a cliff wall

For those who didn't know, the Angeles Crest Highway is a notorious road that has seen multiple crashes involving people speeding and not being able to regain control before crashing their cars

I actually have no words on this other than to express my sympathies to his family.

He was responsible for some of the best action games I played in my life and I've played them all through and through.

It was crazy to see his death so soon and crazier that it was filmed.
