Can I get a TLDR on what's going on with this tanker shit?

My friends are messaging me panicing saying "USA just seized 2 russian oil tankers, looks like ww3 is on!" :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Trying to read various news articles but 1) I just want the TLDR not any political slant and 2) they're all just pages and pages of update vomit every 5 mins and hard to get an overview

Russia is about to nuke the UK.

Article:
Marco Rubio:

We have a three-fold process in Venezuela:

Step one is the stabilization of the country. We are going to take between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil. We are going to sell it in the marketplace at market rates. We will control how that money is dispersed.

The second phase will be recovery, ensuring that American, Western, and other countries have access to Venezuelan markets.

The third phase will be one of transition.

I didn't know TDS was really that strong. It appears hatred for Trump is greater than that for Putin. The amount of concern about angering Russia from people who up until 5 minutes ago were talking about seizing Russian assets in Belgium has been a bit disturbing. The most dangerous thing for Ukraine is if Russia and the US did start fighting over Venezuela. I can see people in Europe back Russia. If I was Putin I would send ships to protect Greenland, just to reveal the true views of Europe.

Outside of outliers like Hungary (Orban bought by Putin) Europe will never side with Russia.

Russians can't even take a yard of Ukrainian dirt without sacrificing thousands of lives. What are they going to do against the US? These Russian tankers are flying under a false flag because what they are doing is illegal sanction busting activity.

The only thing the Russians have are nukes, and, considering how spectacularly the other Soviet-era systems and gear they've used the past few years have failed, im starting to become convinced their nukes are a bigger danger to themselves than anyone else.

Nukes need constant maintenance (every few years) and USA spends up to 95 billion $ on it (yearly) - that's not much less than entire Russian military budget for 2025.

I really wonder how many Russian nukes are even operational...

"In Soviet Russia we know which missiles are nuclear because the operators glow green!" is probably a pretty accurate assessment of their nuclear security policy :P

I shudder to think of how many old soviet nukes and nuclear material have gonna wandering off in the past few decades. Or are sitting there in some toxic silo or bunker, too unsafe for humans to even enter.

Historically there have been alliance between europeans and russians. They used to be allied with France and Germany. Also with Prussia etc.

That Russia was a bit different, Romanovs and rest of European kings (and Queens) were one big fucking family...

And for sure they weren't able to annihilate good portion of the planet (nukes) before second part of XX century.

Russia back then at least tried to become civilised.

Peter I was the first to try to westernise russia IIRC.

We've all seen what they are today though, after Bucha. Pure evil.

I don't have the biggest interest in this story so I've not kept super up on what's been going on. The only thing I saw that covered it was the Triggernometry guys episode on it(Francis is Venezuelan) and he doesn't think that Venezuela will have a new election to get the people the leader of their choosing any time soon. His opinion was that Delcy Rodriguez is going to run things because she'll be shaken down by the Trump administration out of fear and will do whatever they tell her to do, and even if they removed her, there's still a lot of Maduro's lackeys and enforcers remaining who aren't just going to give up power.

We'll see if he's right, but if he is, that disappointed me. I was hoping that Venezuela would elect a new leader, one actually chosen by the people without it being rigged, and things could start turning around there. Who knows if that will even happen.

This is the US plan, per my post above:

Controlling the oil revenue and dictating how it's spent will be supreme leverage to reshape Venezuela. Opening it up to capitalism will depower corruption within the regime if done properly. So it makes sense to hold off on transitioning the government until after those steps.

Time and time again, interventions demonstrated that you cannot install a new "king" without support from the police and the military. And that's without a cartel in the Venezuela.

Who said "tech production"?

We invented / completely improved in vast ways, tons of tech you use now. Get over it.

We then took it, for cheaper production, to another developing country.

But I never mentioned production.

Regarding ASML, I am happy for you, congrats.
Let's be honest - it was mainly immigrants who invented designed it.

So he's bought by Putin because he goes against western propaganda? Never saw anything by him that suggests this but then again I don't watch everything he says.

They are still pumping russian gas and refuse to end it:

Orban also tries to block any new sanctions on Russia. He is in bed with Putin.

China reportedly had loaned Venezuela ~$60 billion in exchange for oil access, and invested another ~$25 billion.

That's unfortunate.

Aye, there's the rub. Will these oil trillions be paid back to the people, to lift them out of starvation, poverty, and ignorance and foster in a new golden age? Or will the money go to the coffers of corps and oligarchs with a pittance kicked back in the form of loans and debt-incurring 'hand-outs' that just enslave the populace in other ways?

That's the 'problem' with oil, it can be harvested with relatively little manpower, so it's easy to concentrate it's gains to just a few. Hopefully there is a good plan with just a reasonable amount of grift and corruption (10% skimming off the top instead of 50%, let's say) and decent transparency about where it's all going.

Otherwise this will just be the GOPs version of Ukraine, will TRILLIONS going out and a bunch coming back as political graft. Trump seems like a guy who will make sure the US taxpayers aren't getting bent over too much though, let the foreign pillage pay the bills.

Guys... 40MI barrels at 60 dollars per barrel doesn't spawn a golden age out of nothing.

It's just 2.4 bi USD, something like 2-3% of Venezuelan annual GDP. Plus we are talking of Venezuelan heavy oil, it still have logistical costs, refining costs, etc.
And it probably will pass through the entire "venezuelan bureaucracy" unless the US invades and basically take control of the entire governmental structure down to the lowest of the lowest municipal levels.
(which is something that didn't happend even after WW2)

Imho is more like part of the compensation that the courts awarded to the US Oil companies when Chavez nationalize the entire industry in 2007 (around 8.7bi) and a way to stabilize and make it possible for those companies to begin exploring oil in Venezuela again (security, logistical infrastructure, etc).

America's like 'the Western Hemisphere is ours and Greenland is next' after flying Apaches in to neighbouring hostile countries and black bagging despots. You've got White House official tweets like this racking up millions of views;

Bringing back national pride, common sense and the rule of law not only to their own streets but globally.

Then you've got our despised decrepit institutions and government trying to piggy back on American exceptionalism by being like 'we provided admin support 🤓' hugely just fuck right off.
