Air Strikes in Caracas

I feel like the midterms this time will be very unpredictable. Plus it is increasingly clear that only the governors are able to do anything as the congress becomes more and more irrelevant.

The Senate is likely to stay Republican this time. The House is the wildcard. Which also depends on the effects of the redistricting efforts, what happens over the next 6 to 8 months, and what the Supreme Court decides on race-based gerrymandering later this year. That ruling could suddenly create way too many seats for Republicans to make Democrats capable of taking the House for quite a while.

Considering the state of the house - unless there is a clear supermajority, I expect it to be as dysfunctional as now. Too much lobbying and too many donors there that won't allow the congressmen to fall out of line.

He ain't gonna attack Greenland lol, that would sever ties with Europe. Euro countries would shut down all the american military bases in Europe, kick out the Americans stationed here and start a sanction war. The fallout would be insane, every Euro nation would view America radically different, it makes no sense to go to those lengths, it would shatter NATO and the current world order.

What is going on in minnesota?

Guess it's coming to a full blown winner take all death match, Danish friends.

So we are on the verge of nuclear war between Europe and the US leaving Russia and China untouched so that we can protect ourselves from China and Russia.

A Canadian who moved to the US back in 2017 and was living in Missouri decided to go with her wife up to Minnesota and harass ICE agents all day. She parked her SUV sideways in the middle of the road to block them. She refused to move. Was then told to exit the vehicle. She refused. When the agents attempted to get her out she backed up, then attempted to suddenly drive foward with an officer right in front of her. Her tires spun out at first so she didn't run him over immediately. She then tried to drive forward again but the officer had his gun out and shot her. The whole thing happened pretty quick. Now the mayor of Minneapolis and the governor of Minnesota are making clear statements of defiance to Federal authorities, even using the word "war" to describe it, and now you have riots starting to pop up.

If an attack on greenland is seriously being considered by trump and his admin.. like can he just order a full invasion of an ally without senate/Congress approval?

A raid on an 'enemy' country is one thing but an invasion of an allies territory seems insane and far out, even for trump.
I just can't see us generals who are you know intelligent people going through with this, let alone Congress.
By that point we may as well go whole hog and attack the EU, they're geocoding native Europeans anyway, is that not justification enough?

lol. In case of war, Russia will continue marching on Europe and China will be in trouble because it needs markets to sell their goods and markets do not like wars.

It's funny the blue states threatening gerrymandering when they are already as gerrymandered as it gets. Maybe representatives should be based on voter percentages statewide rather than geographical?

Yep. Democrats are super hypocritical. Shocker. Many of their states have 30 to 45% Republican voters yet little to no representation for them. And states like Illinois have super absurd district maps to make sure Democrat voters are overrepresented. And they've been doing that for decades. But yeah. Republicans are "cheating" 🙄

They got their powder keg moment for an excuse to go scorched earth with the house of cards corruption crashing down on their heads.

Very Bolshevik of them. Most law abiding officials with a constitutional oath would call the situation unfortunate, preventable, not outright attempt to martyr someone practicing unlawful restraint and obstruction to federal law enforcement and citizens around them.

Then arrest them all. If you're going to riot over someone fucking around then they don't deserve to be apart of society.

Just ridicules, there are thousands of leftist activists just looking for a reason, who's fault it is doesn't even matter at this point.

You have 200 people gunned down by gangs and no one cares, but someone who tries to get shot by ice becomes a trigger mechanism for them.

They don't care about that women. They just need the excuse.

There not going to be a war.
Well that is what I am hoping but the invasion posturing is worrying - and I would have given extremely low odds on the US invading Venezuala and arresting their leader up until right before it happened.

The Democrat Party is loaded with radicals and morons.
Don't go to places like Reddit and Bluesky, the Democrats have been radicalizing their base for decades now and the result is not going to be pretty

The public execution of Charlie Kirk should have been a warning about how bad things have become but it looks like nobody cared about that or learned any lessons from it

Diosdado Cabello is considered the worst Maduro regime figure excepting Maduro himself and it's not likely he can be allowed to stay. If he moves against Delcy Rodriguez, we can expect the Americans to intervene and remove him forcibly and that's a good thing

Now word is going around that El Helicoide is being closed, there isn't anything left for Cabello to do anyways

The US has done that before. Conquering a territory of a fellow NATO nation? No....this is not similar.

Sure but I don't recall a US president even broaching the possibility of invading a fellow NATO territory before either.

No, that's completely new, but you gotta consider the President. The guy loves getting everyone worked up about shit.

This is the typical playbook of Trump and I'm surprised so many people still haven't caught on. He makes you think he might do the most outrageous thing that would cause so many more problems. Sometimes he DOES do outrageous things to make you think he might do something even worse.

But this forces people to have conversations and initiate negotiations. A looming threat that he may or may not seriously act on. So he negotiates from a position of strength. It's the same tactic as suing for $100 million but settling for $10 million. You create an intense situation so that your opponent is more agreeable to a drastically reduced amount. An amount that you actually wanted in the first place.

So Trump is keeping everyone guessing while he turns the heat up in the room. Denmark and Greenland will come to the table and negotiate. Despite public bluster, they are shitting their pants behind the scenes. Trump is well aware of his public image and uses that to his advantage.

The more likely outcome if that actually did happen is NATO just dissolves. Just because it says on paper that attacking one is attacking all doesn't actullay mean it in practice.

Yeah but this is like threatening to punch your own wife in the face, good luck walking that back.

The Art of the Deal

He should ask Denmark to go make us a sandwich. Wait, do they make good sandwiches over there?
The prime minister of Denmark is actually super based, Trump would like her. She said criminal immigrants are ruining the country, and she is trying to get a system going where any immigrant with a prison sentence over one year will be automatically sent out of the country.

She is also trying to remove pension and social benefits for anyone who has been involved in organized crime, "they don't deserve the benefits we have worked to create", as she says.

I think they're just playing theater, personally. Like he would with the Italian lass if needed.

Yet that is exactly what he will do and European leaders won't have much recourse. Because this isn't a personal thing. This is business and international politics.

The Danes, like the rest of Europe, rely completely on the US to project their "order" across the globe. The US is basically telling them, "We have identified an issue that poses a serious risk to the future of the Western world and its allies. It's territory that is officially yours but for all practical concerns you can't make use of it. We can. If we get it, it will plug a gaping hole in the global strategy of the West".

In today's world, you either align yourself with the US or you align yourself with a collection of authoritarian regimes. The balance of power has shifted away from the EU, and it only has itself to blame for that. The US is playing for keeps right now, and it sees no use in stroking egos of countries who are not even close to equal partners and have allowed themselves to stagnate.

Something important to keep in mind, not all countries in Europe have the same viewpoint about the US. The EU is not at all aligned in their opinions. In the event of some catastrophic fracture, it would not be shocking to see some nations hedge their bets with the US instead of sticking around with the other EU nations. A fact that I'm certain Brussels is well aware of.
