They say the best retro handheld is the one you have. This project seems like it'll be pretty cool when it's all done.

While Switch emulators are nothing new, kinda cool to see a dedicated emulation frontend similar to iiSU being developed.

Oh this is very interesting. I may need to give this a shot on my OG Switch.

I rather just use my android phone, install RetroArch and emulators and then use this with your phone. Much more capable with the phone having better processor and ram

Yep, got shipping notification. So either late this week or early next week.

Very impressed with my new Retroid Pocket Classic after replacing my TrimUi Brick.

Today I was messing around with the settings in those emulators, and I'm slowly starting to understand them. Cores, shaders, filters, states, hotkeys. It's funny how a slightly larger screen and a reasonably familiar interface makes it more inviting to delve deeper.

I mainly bought it for old 2D games, but PS1 games are unexpectedly great too and look beautiful when upscaled to 2x to get rid of the blockiness. Makes a world of difference.

I'm playing Colin McRae again now.

Don't you miss analog sticks like most of the handhelds have?
I also own a Steamdeck. It's great for emulation, especially for games from the PS2 onwards. But It's also a pretty big device. I wanted something smaller, more portable for Gameboy, SNES, Megadrive, PS1, and so on. With a square screen and no sticks. But the TrimUI Brick was just a bit too small and too limited in terms of OS. It also lacked an OLED screen which really makes a huge difference.

Love the Colin McRae PS1 games. I remember seeing the first one running in a shop.
It was the game that persuaded me maybe the Saturn wasn't the best choice!

There is a new bigger Brick that's apparently going to be released soon. No idea on specs.

That is pretty cool for folks who like to stream or record videos.
It's not something I would personally use but I thought I should mention it here at least in case someone else finds it useful.

If you're sticking to low end stuff that's a fine approach but a Snapdragon 8 Elite on a Samsung S25 isn't going to give you the same performance as a Snapdragon 8 Elite on a AYN Odin 3 because Android phones don't have dedicated Fan to cool the unit and you're going to run into thermal throttling on normal Android phones if you try to emulate high end stuff.

And also… I like having my phone used for you know… phone stuff 😉. Plus running emulation will eat through battery in no time.

Gonna eventually pull the trigger on an Odin 3. Probably will be my last device for awhile. Holding out for the Ultra model with 24 gigs of ram. It will probably be readily available by April so I still have a considerable amount of time. Until then I have the Odin 2 Max which is a fantastic handheld in its own right but man that Amoled screen just keeps screaming out at me.

What do you guys suggest for a front end or whatever for emulators?
ES-DE is one of the best, check out Retro Game Corps for a guide for what device type you have for some other good recommendations
