IGN: We Played Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2

3rd party focus. Especially in Japan. PS5 never reaching it's full potential because from a graphical standpoint development will be targeting looking good on the Switch 2 first. To the graphics whores, they'll always grit their teeth because they're never going to escape the fact that developers will be factoring in developing games for the fastest selling system ever, which is currently not a Sony system.
I think it's great that 3rd parties are focusing on the Switch 2, especially in Japan. Lower specs often encourage work arounds and emphasis on creative gameplay, over raw horsepower and realism. Also, it's not like the Switch 2 can't output amazing visuals.

I lived in Japan for about 1 and a half years. The focus on a portable that can connect to a TV fits the exact use case for almost every single person in Japan. Everyone uses public transit. Everyone eats out more than in the West. Everyone works or goes to school way too many hours.

The use case for a console that only connects to a TV is still large, but the addressable market is so much larger for the Switch in Japan.

Additionally, with the cute and abstract designs that Japanese people prefer, it is achievable with lower specs. Perhaps that is because of the prevalence and acceptance of Manga, and the pictorial writing system. Abstraction and cartoons are deeply ingrained into the Japanese a way of life. You will see official government publications with cartoon characters, JR shinkansens with Hello Kity and One Piece designs... none of this is looked down upon.

Certainly, you have things like the Resident Evil and Gran Tourismo series, which always seems to be at the bleeding edge. But on the whole, there isn't the same focus on "realism" in Japan as in the west. In this environment, the Switch and Switch 2 destroy any system that is tethered to a TV to work.

He was told it's 60FPS, it's not like he looked and made a call.

It looks fine, I don't get why people hate the Switch 2 so much. Get on with your life.
He was told its 60fps, not like he played the game and couldnt tell by himself.

It looks like garbage, i dont get why people have to defend the Switch 2 so much. Get on with your life.

I really want this on Switch 2. But I'm going to go for Ps5 day 0 since I have all the other RE games there. Will double dip down the road when it's sub 20 and if it's on the cart. Otherwise 10 or less digital.

capcom almost always targets 60fps.

all that this means is that there's no 30fps lock. that's normal for 99% of RE Engine releases. REmake 3 also targeted 60fps on last gen for example, but was more like a 40fps game, with moments that hit 60fps... which was fine on One X of course because it has 120hz VRR support, but wasn't that great on PS4 Pro which had neither.

so in handheld mode, if Capcom runs the system at 120hz with proper LFC, it will be fine. on a TV due to the lack of VRR support, probably less so.
hopefully they at least let you run it at 120hz docked as well, as that will reduce the perceived stutter
Sounds terrible better just at 30fps.

It blows my mind that some still act like Switch 2 owners aren't ok with getting downgraded visuals or have less performance options. No fucking duh retards. I don't expect RE9 to look the same on my PS5 and 4k tv (sold separately) than on my Switch 2 in portable mode, on my back patio while I have football, basketball or hockey outside.

Are you calling me a retard?

It's quite impressive actually. Knowing Switch 2 can run current 3rd Party games is a nice improvement from the Switch 1, also means partner directs aren't as useless anymore.

I'm surprised and glad they're targeting 60fps with both this and Pragamata on Switch 2. I forgot how good RE Engine optimisation was and that RE Village targeted 60fps even on Base PS4.

Oh we all know why the hate flows for switch 2 here. Same reasons why people here have claimed the switch 2 and MK world wasn't selling well . 😵‍💫

Like clockwork, lmao

Yeah, some people seem to be a little too sensitive. I've rarely seen them actually talk about the stuff they enjoy rather than constantly complain about what others post. We should seriously consider a safe space OT where they can relax and rejuvenate away from the horrors of regular threads.

As much as I want to play this on my PS5 Pro, if I can use gyro controls to aim and shoot then sign me up for the switch version. Been replying RE:5 with a friend on the Switch 2 and I can't imagine going back to regular dual analog. Hell the Wii version of resident evil 4 has already spoiled me with how good that aiming was back then.

Sensitive? My good man, these four or five individuals do the same thing in every single thread without fail: cry wolf, scream "hater" or "fanboy" at anyone who disagrees with them and aggressively police the conversation on behalf of a multi-billion-dollar corporation that doesn't know they exist.

They add nothing. No insight, no analysis, no discussion - just noise.
Mozza is the most obvious example. His post history is effectively a Nintendo defense manual: reply to a post, declare the other person wrong, accuse them of being a fanboy or a hater (yes, the irony is completely lost on him), repeat ad nauseam. That's the entire contribution.

Look at the opening replies in this very thread. Same predictable script: imagined persecution, "everyone here hates Nintendo," and reflexive fanboy accusations from the very people who cannot tolerate even mild criticism. It's pure projection.
And then there's the Fox guy, openly lobbying the mods to "purge" dissenting opinions - because nothing says confidence in your position like demanding censorship the moment someone disagrees.
You genuinely couldn't write a better satire of corporate fandom if you tried.

Frankly, your suggestion of a Nintendo-only OT where these people can safely echo each other's talking points sounds less like segregation and more like basic forum hygiene, at least then the rest of us could have an actual discussion, instead of wading through zealotry, victim complexes, and bad-faith posting.

I play my N64 fairly regularly so I don't have a problem with less-than-perfect graphics. But I do wish that companies that "target 60 FPS" gave us an option to play with locked 30 or a fluctuating 30-60. A lot of the time, I prefer it to be 30 with no dips than 60 with frequent dips. My eyes catch the stuttering a lot more than if it's consistent and I get used to that look.

Looks like a great port is incoming. Looks great from all the footage I saw.

that said, I will avoid playing in third person simply for the fact that the hair looks so bad in the character model while playing in third person.

what is it with technology still not evolving enough to make hair look natural without taxing the system so much.
