Never really cared for the layout of discord. Hopefully someone makes a new chat program that is less lame and corporate. I just use Steam chat on the rare occasion that I want to talk to someone I'm playing with.

I stopped using it a few years back. It used to be fun, but now every server has to be locked down like Fort Knox for some reason. Like heaven forbid that Discord mods should have to deal with spam or people in general having to see someone saying a Different Opinion every so often. Most of them already needed me to have my phone hooked up.

Also none of this security seems to stop people high up in Discord running porn servers, allegedly.

do not think Steam is immune to this as well.

The UK/EU are going after the publicly traded companies first.

Soon enough Steam will be in their sites and these governments can do all sorts of stuff to Steam as a private entity to make doing business in teh UK/EU difficult.

i am sure the UK gov will make you verify your face and quran. But Valve is too libertarian to enforce that in the US.

Steam is already implicated in the law, they choose to use age verification through credit card

We don't have these backwater laws here in Illinois and nothing like that is on the table or being proposed here so this should be an illegal invasion of privacy here.

Remember this?

I'm not giving anything the moment they ask for this I'm dropping the platform.
Wait a second, Illinois is baseed?

I only use Discord so I can chat with a few irl friends who live far away. I will ask them that we use another platform.

Back to good old mumble.

Thats what I dont understand. Everyone is getting hacked and robbed off all their data's...really everyone! And somehow these global "elite" clowns think its the best idea to force everyone to give even more data out....creating even bigger honeypots. Its all so weird!

I'm conflicted. The threat of data breach is real. I've had my identity stolen. I've had someone walk into a bank and drain my checking account and open multiple credit cards. I've also had to fight paying one of those fraudulent card bills. I don't like the data being out there. However, I do want restrictions to keep my kids safe from pervs without having to literally watch their every move. I won't let my kids have tech devices, but as a parent I care about other kids whose parents aren't protecting them. I want those kids to be safe. Honestly, I don't know the solution to the problem.

If you haven't been assuming everything you type and say on Discord is being government monitored already well first you better delete your whole current Discord account and second you better start assuming you're always on your best behavior if you start your new account

I mean sure I've always acknowledged this. It's just finding out there's yet another layer of wasted processing power running 24/7 doing fuck all. Especially if it's running locally.

Passcode is the best method against thieves.
Not just thieves, but law enforcement as well. In the US at least, they cannot legally compel you to provide the PIN code to unlock a phone, but they CAN compel you to submit for a fingerprint or face scan. Pair this with a method to wipe the phone's encryption keys when entering an "emergency wipe" PIN. Just be ready to face charges like evidence tampering, obstructing justice or failure to comply.

Loool!

I'm pretty sure this is in response to:

- UK (anti-porn) Digital Safety Act (holds platforms legally responsible for the content their users share, regardless of what their T&Cs say. Also stricter controls around restricted content shared with or to kids on platforms + websites)
- Aussie ban on social media
- Spain ban on social media
- Many EU countries considering doing the same

Etc

Discord, twitch etc have all cut their cloth selling services to kids and making a mint. They're also all saturated with smut in the dark recesses of their sites.

They're all trying not to get caught with their pants down now.

Fucking X's offices in France got raided recently due to allegations that the site was facilitating the production and propagation of child pornography.

So yeah, expect the world to start to clamp down more on these social media companies who have enjoyed their free lunch for a very long time.
A lot of US states are also introducing these regulations.

The way to go would be for Apple and Google to do verification on device (say Apple on iPhone) and basically set a user attribute to "over 18". This would be the only thing to be passed to 3rd parties.

Lots of governments trying to enforce this on companies under the trojan horse of protecting the children, while the real goal is internet surveillance / control over their population.

I remember when Discord launched it prided itself on "freedom," etc..

Then the globalist cabal latched itself onto another host.
Thats how social media networks work. When it launches and ramps up, the rules are loose, they turn a blind eye and their priorities are building up a mass of users.

Then at some point, all the rules, safety policies, terms of service etc... all come out. People are so used to the service, it becomes a non-issue to just click and go.

Imagine if Discord was a brand new service launching right now and it required Face ID to join. Instant bomb.

We have been labeled as the 2nd liberal capital of the US (right behind California) so the governor and Co are too busy dealing with their constant clash with the current administration.

At the very least the only thing we have seen so far here is that last year in February an asshole (Republican of course) submitted a bill for online ID verification to "protect the children" against adult content but besides another asshole (Another Republican) cosigning the bill 2 weeks later the bill hasn't gone anywhere else ever since.

People have better things to worry about right now instead of trying to push for an Online Verification bill just because it's the trendy thing to do in other Red States.

I must be too old for this shit, but I have discord and never pay attention to it because it's always buzzing with like hundred of notifications about shit I don't care about and muting chats one by one is tedious as hell, most of the pople there use it as your regular messenger but public for everyone to see and 90% of the time is memes or their daily vent about their daily routine...

Good, i hope it implodes whit this

was gettin tired of "You want to find somethin extra? Join our Discord tee hee" bullcrap.
Happy Video Game GIF by Regal

"want to join our raid group? join our discord first!" smh then later complained nobody socialize in game. i also tired that people use this as database or guide despite this thing never build up for that.

i want to see how MMO landscape could be affected if this thing burned to ground.

This is the same app that just got 70k government employees information leaked, they can kiss my ass if they think they are getting my ID.

I only use the site (not the app) for a bunch of emulation channels only, for bug and progress reports.

I don't think i ever used the private chat or other such features.

At least here in Illinois we have some very strict Biometric Laws and we have a LONG history of winning against big players in Class Action Lawsuits including Meta, Amazon and Google so we are going to see Discord in court here if they go ahead with this implementation.

We don't want our Biometric data out in the web or in 3rd party services and Face/ID Scans fall under that.

This is why at least over here in Illinois people are screaming about ICE scanning people's State ID when they randomly detain or question US Citizens because it's super illegal to do so.

Thanks for the information. I shall be removing it immediately. Like one other poster said, it sucks because there's lots of information to be found there. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere with modding without it. Oh well..
