Sony shuts down Bluepoint Studios

They got shutdown because this idiot Hulst force them to do some fucking GAAS GOW game that didn't pan out? Are you fucking kidding me right now? Who the hell asked for a GAAS GOW game? How the fuck one develops something like that when GOW always has been about single player campaigns with Kratos

GOW Ascension tried it once 12 years ago and it didn't stick, GOW is a single player game, always has been, always will be, not everything has to be a stupid GAAS trash

The higher ups at Sony are completely clueless and oblivious of the games Sony makes, it's incredible, yeah you know what, next make GRAN TURISMO a fucking First Person Shooter while you're at it, retards...

Why would they change the posting schedules? The most expensive developer Sony has purchased, is in a one month media blitz within two weeks before releasing their first full new game since said purchase. You're expecting them to change the timing of that because they cancelled another team who wasn't projecting to earn their profits? I can assure you most people that own PS4/PS5s don't know what work Bluepoint has done in the past outside of people like us in these forums etc. I'm not happy with this news, but it shows where the current state of Sony actually is right now..$$$

Yeah....I do. Would have been the decent thing to do. But we don't agree on that and its' fine. I agree with the rest of your post.

The only thing to do is double down on shitting on GAAS. I was going to at least try the Marathon server slam but I'm not even going to bother now.

> Force developer to make GaaS slop

> Realize GaaS slop aren't that popular afterall, lol all those gamers we ignored were right afterall

>Punish despicable developer for daring to be forced to make GaaS slop

Job well done, yet another success story of Sony management PROFESSIONALS 😎

Here's every game studio Sony has bought since 2019 and what's recently happened to it:

Insomniac Games – Acquired in 2019 – Hit with layoffs in February 2024. New game shipping this year, Wolverine.

Housemarque – Acquired in 2021 – New game, Saros, shipping this year on PS5.

Nixxes Software – Acquired in 2021 – Has been a very active support studio for Sony, working on Horizon, Helldivers 2, and more.

FirespriteAcquired in 2021 – Layoffs in February 2024. Its last shipped game was Horizon Call of the Mountain for PSVR2 in 2023.

Fabrik Games Acquired in 2021 – Part of Firesprite. Hasn't shipped a game since 2017.

Bluepoint Games – Acquired in 2021Closed in February 2026. Its last shipped game was Demon's Souls in 2020.

Valkyrie EntertainmentAcquired in 2021– Hasn't shipped a game since 2015. Helped on Concord in 2024.

Haven Studios Acquired in 2022 – Hasn't shipped a game yet. Founded in 2021. Working on delayed live-service shooter Fairgames.

Bungie Acquired in 2022 – Faced layoffs in 2024. After delay, has a new game out this year, Marathon.

Neon Koi Acquired in 2022 – Founded in 2020. Never shipped a planned live-service mobile project. Closed in 2024.

Firewalk Studios
Acquired in 2023 – Launched Concord in 2024. The game flopped after two weeks. Studio closed in 2024.

Sorry, but these guys had it coming for the DS remake. Nah but seriously, Aloy & Friends has had the entire workforce of GG put fulltime hours into it since Horizon 2 went gold. That shit ain't cheap. I'm sure their analysts told them after the reveal to brace for bomba. I guess Bluepoint was just low man on the totem pole.
Such a horrible, horrible decision. And this is with the Playstation division making them loads of money! But it's never enough for the bloodsucking shareholders...
Hermen should be sacked, but I am afraid that that would not do much. The market in its entirety is changing, and we -old dogs- are just that, old. Our voices resonate thenderously within the walls of forums, but outside, we are vastly outnumbered by people who enjoy Fortnite, COD and other live service titles.
I want the 80s-90s back...
You don't think Elden Ring 2 or Half Life 3 would sell well? The games we like never started flopping, they just lost the ability to make them.

This pretty much confirms even studios like Guerilla Games are in the risk of getting shut down if their new Horizon GaaS spinoff doesn't make Arc Raiders-level success, which literally no one asked for.

I really don't think we know enough to say Sony "forced' Bluepoint into anything. They sold themselves to Sony and from all we know they fairly quickly were making a GAAS game right?

Sony announced they had 12 GAAS games in the works in May of 2022, only ~8 months after Sony bought BP.

Not saying it makes it any harder to swallow the closing of the studio, but it seems likely they signed up for this.

I wonder if they are shocked by the strong response of the gaming community.

Hard to say really. Us looking in from the outside don't know what happened inside their walls. Should I be mad without really knowing the truth?

I enjoyed what I've played from BP over the years, but they must have done something to where they weren't producing positive results in their projects. Maybe Sony did a 10 year outlook on certain studios to forecast the fact that they may not be beneficial to keep pouring $$$ into something that isn't working. I don't know I'm just spitballing here.

One thing for sure hulst cant be innocent in all of this. Its basically impossible at this point. He fucking bought a studio who never made an orginal game to put them on a fucking gaas game. It doesnt matter if it was their own pitch if he was the one greenlit that garbage.

Does feel like there was a carrot involved with so many studios going that same route at once.

You'd think if they had any foresight, they'd be quick to have them remaster (at the very least), Blodborne and give it an opportunity to have newfound success, capitalizing on Elden Ring breaking through to the mainstream zeitgeist.

Lies of P capitalized on it due to both of those games, as well as Lords of the Fallen's comeback.

It truly is a spectacular marvel of the highest order, it has to be said

To be fair though, it's not really new of that company. They've made some truly shocking decisions over the years.

And to be even fairer, mind you, most of these studios haven't exactly been filling the coffers with extreme talent over the years..

If I'd had my way I'd of jettisoned half those clowns years ago 🤷‍♂️

I mean who the hell actually wanted Abby? Spray painting shit in Spiderman, a cucked God of WAR? Or a fat Aloy? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

No one, its all dog shit. All of it.

That's what you get for not being quiet, staying in your comfort zone, and keep doing what made you popular to begin with - doing remasters, and remakes!

What a fucking waste of time!

Sucker Punch has stated they do a few entries of something and move on. Infamous has played its part and it's done. I don't see where the big audience would be for remasters of Infamous games, they are available on PS4 anyways and already look as good as they likely ever will

Resistance and Killzone were both mediocre franchises back when Sony was looking to make competitors to Halo and Gears of War. Neither of them are missed and hardly anyone would play remasters of those
I wasn't suggesting Sucker Punch do anything, BP would do the remasters. And no they're not on PS4? You can only stream them on PS+ and they're literally just the originals running on PS3 hardware -- which I promise you is FAR from looking the 'best they ever will'

The rest of your statement is pure ignorance. Killzone 2 is the highest rated game (91) amongst all games across those franchises, and Resistance 3 was brilliant but slept on. Just because you had a 360 that gen or weren't born yet doesn't make them mediocre. Go in any thread here or on reddit asking what should be remastered, guaranteed 75% of the comments are one of those 3 franchises. The rest are GoW (which we just got) or other PS2-era franchises.

What I suspected (if true).

Let's face it, gamings best days are behind us now, we're going down this GAAS slop for the foreseeable future. I hope to god that horizon slop they're releasing flops so badly. They had so many past IPs they could have worked on.

Yep. Their last game was literally a launch title for PS5 and had nothing else for almost 6 years. Their only other game they were working on was the GaaS project that was shoved onto them by Sony, and got cancelled the same month Concord failed.

I'd be shocked if marathon has 25K CCU on steam 2 weeks after release
I won't be buying it out of principle.

You don't buy a good company, have them follow so ridiculous design idea and the close the company - affecting employees ability to put food on the table. That's some seriously messed up decision making.

No, Marathon is an easy one to skip.
