Weird topic to make after Sony closed a studio of 70 people whose last game was a game that probably sold like 2M copies.
Sony did some wrong moves chasing the GaaS business for sure, but it's totally salvageable and they have been course-correcting for a while. Naughty Dog working on a new IP, Sony Santa Monica working on 2 AAA titles, Housemarque about to release another single player game, Nixxes keep releasing successful ports, Sony Bend working on a new IP and its NOT a live game, Insomniac working on Wolverine and i'm sure more games (at least 1 more), Polyphony working on Gran Turismo 8 and updates for GT7, Suckerpunch just released a successful single player game and are about to release its online mode, Team Asobi released 2024's GOTY game and are working on their next game, San Diego with MLB, Bungie with Marathon, XDev keeps getting great deals for PS consoles, partnerships with all the big brands like GTA, Fortnite, etc...Kojima making a new PS game as well, Media Molecule are still opened even after the fact their last successful game released in 2011 working on something, etc...
Their hardware team also deserves some kudos. They are good not only at always having components no matter what the crisis is going on since 2022 and only managed to increase prices for the PS5 once in most territories. PS Portal is a hit, PS VR2 was good, but clearly people aren't here for VR to be mainstream, etc...
Xbox studios keep bleeding hundreds of people every quarter...closed multiple studios just last year (way bigger studios than Bluepoint actually) games keep releasing to mediocre to bad reviews (Sony at least delivers) from both Bethesda and Activision, Gamepass is a failure, people stopped buying games over there as well. Their subscriptions hit ridiculous prices, Series S is something that they shouldn't have released and it's as expensive as a PS5 slim now and Series X is now almost as expensive as a PS5 Pro in some territories. This alone is a failure that i can't even begin to grasp...but it doesn't end here.
Moving from Sony because (as i said) they closed a studio with 70 people to move to Xbox which is a failed hardware company and an even bigger failure as a software company that's actively working to destroy the big IPs they acquired like the biggest gaming IP COD and whose only decent working studio is the one that's making Forza Horizon? An IP that's now releasing on PS consoles anyway?
There's not a single reason to move from any platform to Xbox currently lmao. Not even their cloud gaming is better there for years.
Xbox has games announced in 2019 (!!!) that aren't out in 2026.
Xbox, PS and Nintendo are going though some weird times. All with different issues...but Xbox is literally a failed business at this point. The others aren't.
