Bad timing for this comment when the current administration just had a press conference shitting on the Supreme Court (protector and interpreter of The Constitution) and putting in orders to defy its ruling.

Both parties stretch the law and ignore The Constitution when it's convenient and politically expedient for them. That's always been the case. All recent presidents have also tried to consolidate power in the executive branch as much as they could get away with. However, they all aren't equal in magnitude. This current administration is committing violations left and right against the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth amendments. Surprisingly enough, they even recently threw the second amendment under the bus when it was politically convenient for them.

Truth is in the middle, we know that horrible shit happened on this island and they only tried to punish two people for it, when in reality dozens were involved and nothing bad will happen to them.

With proper investigation, arrests of key figures (some of them are in current Trump administration) and correct punishment for anyone involved with child rape and trafficking - public backlash would have been much smaller. It used to be for a long time "politics as usual" where we would have different views but the core values were similar. I think having core values is critical for a close relationship, which this guy kind was.
Given what's been happening I don't think people can just "agree to disagree" and "it is what it is". People are literally divorcing over the realization of how different their values are.

It will never fail to baffle me how people let a guy like Donald Trump completely change their disposition and perspectives to such an extent.

That was kind of the disturbing aspect of the whole situation. He became a bit fanatical and would aggressively oppose any criticism of Trump, to the point that he was constantly on guard.
I think the core problem is he comes from a rather religious/right leaning family, and I think because they went hard MAGA it's almost like he had to do it as a means of survival.
I don't know what compels people to "worship" someone so much, perhaps if you've already conditioned someone to believe in a God, worshipping/unchecked belief is just second nature. No surprise that religion is often used as a form of manipulation/control.
I think what finally broke the dam for him was the pedophelia and massive coverup. He's in a tight spot right now because his whole family is still on the Trump train and they are very vocal about it.
I'll probably work on reconnecting slowly, I think many folks are waking up to the insanity they've been duped into for the last decade or so, so likely they need support and not animosity or "I told you so".

There are some things that are very easy to disagree on, fundamentally they won't change much.

There are other things that make me view you as a different person entirely if you hold those views. I think everyone has those, whether they are willing to admit it or not.

Im a person of faith myself and if the Bible has one message its that plenty of men try to be God and most are emperors with no clothes.
