Marathon Server Slam CCU Watch

How's the general sentiment from the big streamers?
They were all paid and therefore positive so far.

A lot of them just do what their audience wants or states. Like Tim liked Highguard, wanted to play more, but his chat made it toxic AF so he didn't do it.

Marathon will be a mixed bag I imagine. Maybe one big influence Carrie's it for a bit.

Cohh played it for about 30 minutes and switched to Mewgenics. I've never seen him bounce off a game that quickly. He played Highguard for almost 3 hours at launch, and thought that game wasn't good from the jump, so switching to a different game 30 minutes into Marathon speaks for itself. You could tell he didn't enjoy any of it, and he's a big extraction fan.

Either way, I wouldn't expect honest opinions from most "influencers" until a week or so after launch. Highguard was filthy with positive vibes from all of them and it was a good game, etc. and that lasted for about 3 days and then all the people who glazed it, mostly paid I'm sure, dropped it like a bad habit.

After putting in about 3 hours into the game I think I am done. Really feels like there is not much to do in the game. One of the missions is literally to break glass in buildings 20 times. Ah yes, thank you for sending me to commit vandalism. Map design and colors kinda lost appeal after going through it a few times and started to become immediately annoying. Less distinctive buildings seemingly and fairly easy to get confused. The UI is super trash. It never clicked for me. Anyways, I guess back to arc for me.

Also had some weird pvp experiences. The one pvp mission came up and went to try to do it but then ran into like nobody. Yet the match before 30 seconds in we got into a fight and the people that knocked us got third partied. Turns out it is only 4 teams on a small map and 6 teams on the larger one. Seems kinda small in scale for a pvp focused focused game.

Being able to be revived after being finished is pretty cool though. Really like that idea.

After reading the Steam forums for a bit, i have changed my mind of the full game starting with a 150 CCU. I'll change to 80 CCU lol. No one sems to like it, including a few streamers i watched.

I don't think this game is going to retain low skill players.

It might be f**ked.

God sent Moses into the desert for 40 years. Now God tests me with Marathon. Why?

I watched I few streams and it just looks boring. No desire to even try it out.
I find it really weird that people will watch a stream of a FREE game for 20 minutes and just decide it's 'not for them'

Like I get watching streams/reviews before you drop money on something but it costs nothing and isn't even that big (I think only 38 GB download?)

Or was your post just not in good faith at all and you just want to join the kool kidz club of driveby shitting?

I'm just expressing my opinion, not sure why so defensive? I don't give feck if it succeeds or not, to me it looks boring af.

Just goes back to my first sentence. Why wouldn't you just actually try it?

Unless you never really were going to in the first place, and watching some streamers shit on it was all the validation you needed

I'll watch a bit of no commentary gameplay of a game I'm unsure about while commuting or similar to avoid wasting my time which isn't free. I skipped highguard because what was on display didn't interest me.

I tried marathon since the idea appealed to me even if I won't be sticking around.

I didn't watch streamers "shit on it", I didn't even listen to them, most/if not all streamers are annoying as feck, the last thing I want to do is listen to digital beggars. I just watched the game being played. Found it boring.

I can't imagine an extraction shooter would be that crazy to watch someone else play, like watching people play Tarkov sucks for me, way better to actually get hands on with it. Watching other people play games is something I'll never really get.

In some ways I get it, people have loved watching other people play sports (games) for centuries -- but imo that's largely due to the level of play and physical spectacle being greater than what 99% of the population can achieve.

I mean, I love watching football but if I could throw touchdowns like Tom fuckin' Brady and not have my body destroyed I sure as hell would be playing it instead of watching.

Bungie has a built in minimum audience that will guarantee a few hundred thousand sales, the question is can they pull enough extraction sweatys off Arc Raiders, and can they pull in enough console gamers who generally don't like try hard PVP only extraction shooters.

Tried it but it either crashed or couldn't get into a game on pc and ps5. Played maybe 30mins total. Very nice gunplay love the sound design and atmosphere.

But doubt I'll play it much. Needs to be free
.

Numbers have plummeted fast, I don't know I thought it was doing great at the start but it's fallen off a cliff. Is it not very good?
There seem to be a lot of people loving it, I am sure it will do fine. I actually cancelled my preorder personally, but I was in the "lets see what it is like camp" and only put it since I knew I would get to try it out.

I'm trying it after work but I don't like the art direction at all and I've seen nothing that excites me but we'll see. It's just the number's on Steam were good at the start but its seen a rapid decline which says to me people aren't sticking with it.

Yesh, I don't know what to read into that really. What I do know is that the numbers did not explode during asian prime time.

One could argue that it is better for them to have a core audience that actually spends money in a gaas game than having a lot of people that don't. Then again, given huge numbers of players the natural result would of course be more players that spent money there.

I've seen some positives, but the vast majority of opinions are negatives. Most people dislike the art direction, lethargic pace, poor visual readability, and UI. Someone on Reddit summed it up as: "When you design a game to look like cheap plastic crap, the game will look like cheap plastic crap." I predicted Marathon will find a small niche of daily players, and I think that holds true. Some people are genuinely enjoying the game. With that said, Bungie has bet the future of their company on this game, all but killed Destiny 2 to support it, and Sony is demanding a billion dollar GAAS. I'm not sure what happens after launch, but Marathon isn't going to deliver anything close to that. I think Arc Raiders simply did too much damage, and Marathon isn't on that same level. As I said before: I think Bungie is in legitimate trouble here.

Pretty much where I'm at although the UI being completely unintelligible to spectators doesn't help matters. The moment to moment gameplay didn't fare much better especially compared to Arc which is super fun to just watch. I thought Marathon was going to carve out a decent audience for itself but I'm not so sure anymore.
