CONTROL Resonant NEW Gameplay & First Look

Genuinely curious why they opted for a new protagonist. Maybe there's a Raiden-level rig pull somewhere, I just recall Dylan being cringey in the original.

Bit uneasy on this open-world like approach too. I found the metroidvania-esque design of the original to be one of its best characteristics.

That said, Day 1.

Wasn't a fan of the first, but at least they changed the protagonist. IDK tbh, Alan Wake 2 ended up disappointing and I was hyped for that one. I'll wait on reviews.

The changes kinda mute any interest I would've had. I quite liked Jesse and am not really interested in whatever her brother has been up to. That said it'll probably depend on launch price and what else is releasing around it.

I liked Jesse as well, but we can't really judge Dylan as a protagonist based on Control 1. He was batshit crazy and partially controlled by the Hiss. It could make for an really interesting character for him to deal with that and learn how to function as a regular human being. It also makes it even more personal for him.

I do appreciate Remedy is willing to mix up characters.

I applaud their courage on changing up the protaginist and the entire genre instead of doing a straight, safe sequel.
Unfortunately, my interest cratered because of this.

Bless Remedy. Day 1. I love their universe and the first Control got me into it back then. Playing through the Alan Wake games (especially 2) are fond memories of mine and I can't wait for the whacky stuff they got in Resonant. Pretty intrigued by the change to Dylan, though I would've preferred to play Jesse honestly. The open world gameplay kinda reminds me of Prototype a little.

Looks tight, day 1.

Iirc, after Alan Wake 2 and the failure of Firebreak, they changed management, which decided to change the studio's paradigm and create more commercial projects. In other words, the changes are related to expanding the target audience.

Jesse was a cool character, sad to see her replaced. The only misstep with Control for me was the RNG element to most collectible rewards and lack of balance in that system.

The writing, atmosphere, bosses, and frankly everything else was stellar.

I find myself scratching my head at this sequel and I have had no real interest ever since the reveal. This seems so generic B tier game. Like a Blackthorn or Prototype.

I can't really explain it, but nothing shown so far makes me want to see more.

Reminds me a lot of Infamous and Spiderman, which I'm down for. The gameplay footage in the earlier reveal as well as the new one look really, really soft though. Like it's post processed wayyy too much or upscaled from 720p... or something. Pause any frame of gameplay and it's just soup. Don't know how I feel about that, especially if all this footage is from the PS5 pro. May be I need to see the final product and decide if I should wait for the inevitable next gen patch with PT!
