Resident Evil Requiem --- Open Spoilers Discussion ---

Tanky zombies in the second half felt a bit crappy to fight against compared to the billiant strategic warfare in RE4R, but riding a motorcycle up the side of a collapsed building kind of makes up for it.
lol i legit wanted to stand up and applaud. So fucking ridiculous, but so cool.

The motorcycle part's only quality is the cool factor. Other than that, mechanically it's on rails, you can only shoot, they could have added some debris or something that you'd have to avoid or choosing going left/right. Just something to add tiny bit more complexity and make it more engaging.

Then, viewed in the context of the story, you have Victor, this tall, mysterious guy, ride a motorcycle, shooting rockets at you with a pack of wolves? Cheesy RE at its best but it felt very out of character. Did they want Leon dead or not? Cause they set up the welcoming party at RDP.

The team behind re2 and re4 is like a millon times better than this requiem team.

I dont know what the are doing now, maybe code Verónica or re1.

Really liked the game, but the first half was way stronger than the second half.
Yep, by a noticeable margin.

Finished yesterday and my score is around 7-7,5.

Better than 6 to 8 but nowhere near the magic of the first 4.

I dont think they thought much of that through. I mean at the end of the game Victor really has no serious reason to want Leon dead but he transforms into a Nemesis to try and kill him anyway because Resident Evil needs a big boss battle.

Thats why scenario A and B would be better.

We could have Wesker vs Leon final boss and Grace vs Gideon, but no, we got what we got and it was mid as fuck.

I thought this story recap was pretty funny and it doesn't even cover all the bullshits

So we spend the first act with Grace being put "to test" by Gideon in the care center going through a series of dangerous events and antagonizing her only for it to be revealed that they actually be revealed that they needed her ALIVE and willing to cooperate the whole time.

Then the second act Grace willingly cooperates with Wesker, sorry, Zeno, who looks like Wesker, which at this point is well documented to be a worldwide villain (she would know, being in the FBI and her mother being Alyssa) and the guy who had her mother killed without any actual story reason.

And in the third act, Leon and Grace nearly die jumping out of the Elpis platform to scape Zeno only for it to be revealed in the very next cutscene that the objective is to get back to Zeno, who's been standing there still the whole time we assume.

Zeno gets taken out without any explanation why he looks, acts and exhibits the same powers as Wesker. Gideon comes back saying "oh I must had it wrong the whole time anyway yes now my objective is to spread the antiviral even if I just learned of its existence 2 seconds ago". Then, boom, Nemesis.

"Redfield has a message for you" the message being "man I couldn't care less about any of the shit that happened in RC or to you specifically, sending out my RE8 NPCs while I skip this one".

And by the way Spencer was so kind the whole time, we just never knew.

This is some fallout 3 type of shit :lollipop_squinting:

I tell you they did a great job vomiting all over the established lore with tons of retcons.

Though with the current level of writing that brought us great epics like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds it's to be expected.

Code veronica.

Then the directors of RE2, RE4 and RE9 will do RE10.

RE0 is being made by the RE3 team i believe. After Code Veronica, the team will do RE1 without its main directors who will be helming RE10.

We should have code veronica out by next year. Then re0 in 2028. RE1 or RE10 by 2030-2031.

Overall I think game is worse than RE4 and 2 remakes but I still had a blast, and I think I prefer it over Village and 7.

Now, the only mainline RE game left for me is RE6. I played 1 or two hours of PS4 version and didn't like it, does it get better?

Doesn't make sense to me that Village has an 84 on OC but Requiem has a 90. I'm not saying Village doesn't have it's faults, but Requiem certainly has a lot of them too, and I'm wondering what makes Requiem so much better than Village that creates a 6 point gap between the two. Because Village outclasses Requiem in terms of environments, enemy variety, exploration, and boss encounters. Feels like Leon and Nostalgia played a huge part with this.

You're 100% right.

No. It's widely considered to be the worst Resident Evil game for a reason.

The first half was great. Wish we had more of the city at night to explore with people running around. Needed way more of that. Second half was okay, and started becoming a chore. Fucking hate the ending. Like wtf was that…. 4 Remake is the best in the series.

Depends what you mean by better. The game certainly becomes more enjoyable as you master the mechanics, but you won't see a lot of change as the game progresses, it is what it is.

Personally I love it, but it's a very divisive game.

I'm wondering what makes Requiem so much better than Village that creates a 6 point gap between the two

You're right, Leon is doing a lot of the heavy lifting, but for me and I assume others, it's just a terrific anniversary game full of homages to past Resident Evil games and also recontextualises the lore in fascinating ways.

Also the care center is the strongest explorable environment they've designed since REmake, it's absolutely incredible how optimum strategies and routes gradually reveal themselves.

So zeno and Gideon are retards for believing grace was the og product of these clones made in 1990?

Who the fuck came up with that illogical shit?

Yeah, I also liked and laughed when Gideon just showed up in Raccoon shooting rockets on a motorcycle.

Story and motivations make no sense, started strong, but by the end it was like "let's also throw that in, why not?"
RE games have this cheesy stuff in, it is what it is. I don't think there's a RE game with a coherent plot and I don't think they even want to be too serious to begin with.

I don't know. The more I play the more I'm disliking it. The Leon section in that open world is just annoying with lack of direction and the tentacle things later are just awful. Not sure how this got such glowing reviews.

This is what happens when all they had to go by was the half written notes and scribblings littered across what's left of raccoon City. They probably thought Meryl leaving notes for her mom was the chosen one for a while too

8 was almost purely an action romp besides one section. Some cheesy bosses like magneto who became a transformer and Ethan was never a favorite. It was fun, I liked it a lot, but Requiem clears.

It brought back some survival horror for a good bit and a fan favorite with Leon along with some great VA. First and third person from the get go. Zombies with a little personality and amazing graphics. It felt like a fun mash up of 1, 2, and 4. Easy to see why for me.

You already answered your own question. It's pure nostalgia and Leon.

They literally released an unfinished game. First half with grace is great. Second half with Leon is just tucked on. And where are the 100 individual zombies?

I don't like Village, but it has more to offer and is consistent in it's gameplay and flow. A good game for what it is, just not as a resident evil game.

Omg I hate that stupid young grace stealth section with the dolls you have to sneak around. Awful
once you run into those two girls in the hallway, run back and instead of going under the table to hide, go back into the hallway and they wouldve disappeared.

once you get the key, go straight to the cellar entrance instead of hiding, put the key in as soon as the prompt appears and you should be able to climb down the ladder. even if the doll gets you, try it again and it will work.

And people are trying to tell us that they didn't like this.

pshhhaaa ..
With RE7, capcom brought a brand new audience that just likes a very different kind of game. Capcom tried to appease both RE4 and RE7 fans with this one and that was never going to work with both fanbases.

I think they needed a better second level. The basement is just messy and too short. Hospital is gaming perfection like RE2's RPD. They needed one more RPD like level. I know they love their sewers but they have never made for fun levels.

I do like the open world racoon city area, but its slightly less complex than the care center and just doesnt have the same level of intensity. Maybe if they had Grace take it on instead of Leon, and you had to conserve ammo and use the blood mechanic, it might have worked.

The lab levels are good, but again, not as complex as the care center. TBH, this is an issue with every modern RE game including RE2 and RE4. They blow their load early and end up with an action game towards the end. Which is why none of the flaws bothered me. It's what RE has always been.

Dunno who recapped this for you because almost none of it happens.

- Gideon isn't "testing" Grace, he planned on examining her further and leaving with her when Zeno arrived, but she escapes. Before that Leon arrives and Gideon infects his staff and the rest of the patients to stop him; when leon and grace meet he separates them so grace remains trapped. He then later waits for her in the east wing so he can snatch her but she escapes again.
- Nothing about Albert Wesker is well documented, he "dies" in 1996, then works from the shadows for a decade, briefly showing up in 2006 and is presumed dead again. Then finally is completely obliterated in 2009; there probably aren't even any good photographs of him after 1996, nobody who hasn't dealt with him personally is going to recognise him 17 years after his death
- Leon jumps off the platform because he's trying to save grace from zeno, he knew he had no chance fighting him head on; when she says she's coming back with him he replies with "no you're not", and then she presses him to help.
- Gideon is obsessed with spencer and tries to find "genius" behind all of his actions, once again he misinterprets Spencer thinking Elpis is disrupting the "world order" into anarchy by upsetting the balance of BOW warfare
- Chris is a busy man, he's got better thing to do then just fly in, give leon a handshake and then fly away again; this isn't an ethan situation where they have to mop up, it's leon, everything already dead, all he told Sherry was to send a chopper for exfil, not backup.

Is it possible to do a no heals, no blood collector and speed run all in the same run or should I leave speed run to a separate playthrough and do kissing collectibles in the no heal and blood collector run?

Yeah, I'm still not over that one. I love that game, but those morons didn't release any content for that either till now.

Yet people are bootlicking crapcom left right.
Honeymoon phase. Give it a few months. I am expecting a lot of cope.

Yet another Early Access game that starts as a raging fire only to end up as dying embers.

The nonsense story accompanied by an assortment of retcons, low enemy variety, nonexistent bosses, and very low weapon selection leaves much to be desired.

I think if they let Grace stand on her own feet instead of "Leon Break Glass in case of Emergency" I'd like it more. As it stands he overshadows everything.

Probably could of put this out as another one of their CGI movies especially with how Vendetta coded Leon stuff is.

I don't have this "honeymoon phase" nonsense. I either like the game or I don't.

I'm currently playing on insanity difficulty and I'm liking the game eve more.
My criticisms have much to do with everything except the gameplay...because the gameplay is probably the best part about the game minus the lack of sliding and freeform movement from RE6.

Which is unironically mirrored by even the shills online that have said they like the combat but the problem is they want more of it and that RE9 has a content problem.

I am happy you are enjoying the game. More power to you.

you just can't make everyone happy no matter what….that nature of video games.

Bro, it's not about liking or disliking it. It's about the actual content and quality.

I like the game for what it is and have also fun with it, but we won't oversee the shortcomings and give capcom a pass.

The game feels like 2 different games tucked into eachother and feels rushed.
The Story and narrative are illogical. There are so many things I could list, but why bother at this point. One thing at least:

The first thing that bothered me from the beginning was leon going after Gideon to find out more, but refuses to talk with that guy. Gideon literally offered that, yet that stupid cunt spits one liners instead. Just right after that he tells sherry he needs to find out what grace has to do with all of this.
At this point Leon was the dumbest motherfucker who ever lived.

These morons couldn't even build boss fights around Grace's scenario, yet made Leon's part like a boss rush. RE7 and 8 even had boss fights, including optional ones.

The worst part is, the game doesn't flow good. On the first playtrough, it might be no problem, but on replays, the whole thing sucks.

They even lied about the 100 individual zombies.

They even lied about the 100 individual zombies.
They backpedaled and it's 100 behaviors between the possible interactions the Clinic Zombies have on their own, towards the player and towards each other.

But 100 unique zombies? Not at all.

I was hoping they would mean 100 different enemy types that all behave and fight differently but I was asking too much.

I'm not exactly sure how the zombies form out of thin plywood in the Home Depot Warehouse section but it is amusing to watch.

Meanwhile in DD2 when you do deal with Zombies many actually slowly dig their way out of the ground to spawn and only at night which was awesome but they did so in a rather believable way.

Which is kind of a bummer. In Raccoon City you fight everything during the day. No nighttime stuff at all.

And both DD2 and MH Wilds have day and night cycles.

Gideon Is just playing with him, he wasn't really gonna give Leon proper information. He was also trying get info out of Leon thats he refused to talk.

But the boss fights in those games weren't great, especially in RE7 is sucked hard. I also in opinion Grace section doesn't need boss fight so I'm glad they didn't dot it.

i highly disagree with that, I replaying it right now and I have no issue with it pacing and flow of the game.

Yes I think that's the best way to do it, just do them all at once. That's what I did. Your health regenerates to a certain level anytime it's below that level so in general you're not going to die. You take a lot less damage on the lowest difficulty as well.

Depends. The only really great campaign is Jake and Sherry. The combat mechanics do shine once you dig into them, the game does a terrible job of teaching you anything, but honestly the game really lives off playing it co-op.

no. & not only that, it also goes on forever. but you can do it! i finally managed to go through it twice, myself!...

yep. when it comes to resident evil storytelling, coherence can often just get in the way of entertaining set pieces...

Unfinished? Holy fuck, some haters are hilarious.

This game feels like Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Story is okay and not much to do outside the story. But still fun to platinum. I think both were rushed to release.

I've also been considering finally going through RE6 as I only ever sunk a couple hours into Leon's or Chris's campaign and it's the only mainline entry I've never finished.

Leon's campaign kind of sucks to play first since it spoils all the other campaigns. Chris's is just the all the game's worst tendencies set to max.
