It's not about to be goofy. It's try to build a more "complex" story ending to distort even some gameplay sequence just to integrate the narrative and completely fail to give a proper consistency and continuity for the whole game. It's literally in front of your eyes the whole time. That's just bad and rushed design direction. Previous RE where quite smart to keep separate the narrative to the gameplay also the story was serviceable to the gameplay design and not the contrary. I know to sound repetitive but this is mine main criticism and the major letdown about this sequel.I feel like the more realistic the graphics, the more criticism there is for the story of a RE game. Imagine if Leon punched boulders Chris style. These games have always been goofy. But I love them.
