Nvidia at Live GTC : DLSS 5

I mostly checked out of non-indie gaming probably over a year ago now. I realised it was all average gameplay with shiner graphics on hardware I couldn't afford. Often with political agendas hamfisted in at the same time.

Indie games are where it's at really. Fancy graphics wow for about ten minutes, then I get used to them and the game itself has to keep me invested.

I can see some potential for good, especially on games that actually lack artistic value, but the fact this is likely being followed by major companies and could become the standard is legitimately terrifying.
There's games out there where every single element on screen, specular intensity, gamut nuances, all is chirurgically tailored to provide the desidered effect.. this is going to destroy all of it. It's optional, until it's not.
This is scary.

64GB card incoming

Just download some more

In reality Neural Texture compression will help, plus quantisation of the model downwards

This will make lazy ass dev work a real thing for every game.

Plus this is running on 8 grand worth of graphics cards alone....

this thread has become an all-timer rather quickly

It's stated a few times already, devs will be able to control this thing. So I'm optimistic it'll be alright somehow, as well as amused at masked up butthurt around here that's trying to downplay it before even trying it out. If it turns out as total garbage, whatever but it doesn't seem it will to me, and it seems your "nextgen" console is already beginning to be obsolete.
PS6 already dead and its not even out yet.

I can see the vision with this one. Although I do think it makes certain games feel less artistic, so it isn't fit for every game. Especially the lighting can mess up the more cinematic atmosphere, but it can certainly make games look a lot more realistic.

They gotta finetune that uncanny AI filter feeling though, but I guess we're still in the early stages of this tech.

I mean you'd basically have to create the game around it to look impressive. Technically impressive but ugly results.

Even the gameplay they showed, the AC Shadows and the Oblivion bits. All they did was blow out the image like there's a phosphorous explosion just off camera. It kinda kills a lot of the finer detail.

The only Blackwell videocard with more than 16gb VRAM is the RTX 5090....
Its what I have. I dont care about other peasents lol.

joking aside. they said the aim is to run it under 1 GPU. and its gonna be released this year. but i am interested to know if it will actually be exclusive to some specific video cards like 6000 series ( maybe they are being released this year and we dont know ? ) or it wil work with 5000 ?

and all 5000 will be able to run it ? what about 4090 for example ?

I don't get why you hate AMD so much.
I don't hate AMD, I made money off of them over the past couple years.

I like innovation in GPUs and high core count sub $400 mainstream CPUs, things they suck at currently.

I'm glad people here are mostly put off by this.

I had the same reel-backed cringe feeling when they showed before and after Grace and Leon.

I hate that these AI companies are refusing to fix the three issues that persists with AI:

  • Over-sharpening
  • Over-brightening
  • Over-contrasted
All 3 create an instant 'fakeness' feeling to it all.

They're all lit like they're in a photo studio as well

I think if this was some new kind of rendering tech Nvidia made, and had nothing to do with AI, people would be blown away by this and singing its praises.

Dont get me wrong, i'm sick to death of most AI related stuff, but sometimes when AI is used 'in the right way', it def has its place.

Long have i waited for the day to officially say DLSS is worse than FSR.

the inclusion of this "AI-sloppify" feature in it alone makes me vindicated in my AMD purchase.
Not because AMD has superior upscaling or anything but fact is they're too far behind and retarded to ever get to this point and thank god for that 🥹
