Nvidia at Live GTC : DLSS 5

I think we just grew up as more of an enthusiast side of things, hence why most of us are still here on these forums and miss getting excited at devs hand crafting better models and worlds with hours of raster dedication, honing their crafts and not only one upping themselves, but each other every generation.

It was exciting seeing the next Naughty Dog character models, chest hair moving, pours in the skin, blemishes and tones, muscle contortions, lighting, animation motion branches, etc., and maybe some are concerned everything will become more "samey sterile by a flick of a switch" so to speak.
On the other side of it imagine what a talent team of developers like ND, or daresay Rockstar can do with this technology; to enhance the look of their games. GTA 7 may as well look like real life in whatever city they decide to base it off of.

People are quick to poo poo this as 'slop' but the the potential shown is actually insane.

I always try native first with a new game, but It has its uses. When you're going from 1440p to 4K the difference is unnoticeable these days. I'm not a fan of these 720p to 4K upscales though.

I don't agree, particularly in motion, but my stubbornness will not stop this snowball from rolling downhill.

I wander what people are going to say when they start seeing actual nextgen games 🤔
You can't honestly believe they'll look lesser then what you're seeing with this?
The only problem I have with it is how consistent it will be.

If there was a way to have dlss 5 for just environment details than maybe I could see some benefit, but every character looks like ai slop filter. Just delete this lol.

The only one that actually looks passable is the Van Dijk one. But that's mainly because the lighting on Fifa games since they moved to Frostbite is dreadful, so it's just polishing a turd.

The rest is serious uncanny valley stuff, especially in motion.

lol the memes are hilarious, but joking aside it doesnt look bad at all in my opinion, video games must be the only hobby on the planet where everyone is constantly outraged or upset about something.

I could never get into console wars, arguing about the impact of Series S or whether Magnus is a PC seemed so dumb.

But this war I can finally get onboard with, DLSS 5 looks amazing and will be the future I want. Cerny should postpone PS6 until he has copied the homework.

There is always something to conplain about like always. Is some kind of human nature and you will alwass find a group to bitch about shit if you look hard enough. A month from now we will bitch about something different and other people will agree with the mob.

Anyway i think ps6 is gonna be hard on AI like insanely crazy hard. Its not gonna be as advanced as dlss 5.0 but there is no way ps6 isnt going for something similar.

It's too bad we can't have parts of dlss 5. I wouldn't mind it if we can choose for it to affect the environments only and not the characters in the game. I wonder if that would be more welcomed if you didn't have to have everything use that tech but parts of the game.

I came in here to see what all the fuss was about since all pictures I've seen clearly show dlss 5 looks way better.

AI slop, oh ok, I get it 🤡

You need to stop using ChatGPT. All Textures are sampled during rasterization / modified via shading. Those textures are compressed with NTC. (Textures can feature Albedo, Normal Maps, Roughness, whatever else). This allows a nice high quality base image to be composited, but there is only so much high resolution textures will give you, there is additional lighting passes, post processing etc done on the composited image. However this image will have game like lighting, and other compromises that a texture alone cannot provide. Then the entire image as a whole, is fed into the upscaler, and it samples the image and generates new pixels, throwing away all of that texture detail from the rasterization. They are different stages of the image generation, and the highest res textures you can imagine, are not enough to give the scene more quality than the lighting and art direction provide.

But chatgpt gives me tips how to use NTC on UE5

I still can't wrap my head around why the super outrage at dlss5. Seems it is doing a good job generating a higher quality environmental lighting in conjunction with NTC.

I for one can't wait to run DLSS 5 someday at 20-30fps on my native 4k on a GPU with a price tag that got me kicked out of my house.

I fucking LOVE prominent laugh lines on every character.

I also can't help but notice that Grace was improved around 80% with GEN AI, while Leon was improved by only 20%. Goes to show how much Capcom was pulling back from making the females look realistically attractive in order to not be accused of being sexist and keep in line with their DEI overlords. And that goes for every single female character in Requiem, from Grace to the early nurse that gets murdered. All male characters look like they were made in a PS5 game, while the females look like they were made for PS3. Just put Grace and Leon faces side to side, or even the cop in the intro or Grace's boss. They look like they were made by different devs, when compared with Grace, or like Grace was made two console generations ago. It's surreal.

I hope DLSS5 is able to be modded. It will solve all the 'plain and meh' female faces problem we've been having in games for the past eight years.

That's one of the more comical parts about this. It took like 8 grand worth of hardware to run this monstrosity, only to look like fucking garbage.
