This is the best endorsement for a game I've ever seen.

Yea the way they all attack people now, and push all their agendas and bullshit I couldn't give a fuck if they all dropped over tomorrow, they're all trash.

User scores I think are a much better barometer and even then it's still not a great way to judge a game til you're in there
Dude even before the agenda pushing of today, I stopped caring about reviews when they started streaming.

Watching people on IGN and Gamespot try to play games made me realize that vast majority of these people are lazy idiots.
They don't even put in the minimal effort to play a game properly or understand it's mechanics, even when it's being spoon-fed to them

Watch the ForceGaming video above. He explains a ton of systems. He pretty much explains that you have to prep for boss fights. This means working on your cooking skill to make meals and potions for buffs and healing, and also upgrading your gear (this game works by gear strength instead of character level), amongst other side content you can do to improve your character.

Also you can come back to challenge a boss later if you feel that you are too weak for it or if the fight is taking far too long. The bosses are essentially treated like gatekeepers (he didn't elaborate further but it sounds like enemies in the next area are harder so if you beat the boss then you can handle the next area's enemies).
Yeah did watch it. It does sound like Dark Souls bosses. Three part boss fights taking him over an hour and still not beating them.

Oh well.

I saw it and a few on here as well that it looked janky as hell, yet we had the other crowd who convinced themselves it was going to be the next RDR2 😂 Anyway it's using some decent tech so the graphics thread will get some nice screenshots.

Hearing this is not an easy games makes me actually even more excited haha

also LOL at those "Journalists" not even knowing how to play games without tutorials anymore. They should be ashamed.

Watched a few reviews on YouTube and the reception looks to be excellent.

Then I come on here and see people are talking nonsense because the mainstream that recommended crap like Veilguard are failing to connect with it.

Then I saw this comment from Fightincowboy and it all makes sense:

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm looking for. A big sandbox I can chip away at and take my time with, and not really be too pressed about finishing it any time soon. It's what I enjoyed about BotW and Elden Ring. Just running around, discovering secrets, fighting bosses, solving puzzles.

I won't lie, the impressions of the story and the writing do make the world itself feel a bit shallow and generic from a narrative perspective, and that's a bit disappointing. But if the moment to moment gameplay and exploration are solid I can see myself committing 150+ hours to this.

I suspect that some of the bosses are over-tuned and will be sorted out in patching. But yeah this seems like not a game that you try to beeline the main story. As I'm an older gamer with 0 reflexes, my hope is that there is a path through the game where I can out gear bosses or that an easier mode is added. Everything else about this game is perfect for me, just need more info on if it's possible to reduce the challenge by exploring and better gear or if the game just completely locks you out of progressing without doing souls inspired crap. Hopefully you can unlock enough skills etc to do status effects and stun locks etc. In every rpg it should be possible to break the game and destroy the challenge by working out synergies etc. I hope that applies here also.

The other thing that gives me hope is that I get maybe an hour or two to play each night so the likelihood of bugs etc getting patched before I even come across them is high (this happened with BG3 and Rogue Trader - by time I got to the "unoptimised buggy" parts they were all fixed)

Also waiting on more ps5 footage - I'll probably go with pc version though but I would like to play on the couch in the living room with my boy (maybe a joint playthrough where I hand off the boss fights to him...)

I don't think a game should require a major "commitment" before it starts to get fun. If what was said in that review is accurate it actually makes sense why the game got low scores.

It's the same nonsense I am seeing from people saying "it gets good after 15 hours". It's just not a great game and that's ok. If anything the heavy marketing actually might have done more harm than good for the game.

This remembers me so much of the first Assassin's creed game, that game was also super hyped before launch and released to very divided reviews.

To be fair Rockstar games has quite a bit of jank themselve.

Seen quite a fair few of these review threads over the years, and it's amazing how the exact same arguments get brought up over and over.

The game appears to be 7.5 or 8/10 overall. That's fine. A good game. Just not a genre defining one.

I gotta say I'm not surprised. With embargo lifting very late, just before release, is alwyas a red flag, proves this time as well. They exaclty knew how it will end up. Shady practices, luckily we just need to be patient and not fall into preorder hype, ever.

Yup reading reviews it seems that reviewers are even worse than they were 2-3 years ago. They openly complain they have to play game lol.

It's not major commitment before it gets fun but reviews doing jack shit as usual expecting to beat the game because they are reviewers and default difficulty should be beatable by journalist aka retard who doesn't play games mostly and likes to write instead.

Yeah if there is a story mode and not a lot of difficult combat challenge I'll be all over it. I'm the same boat that I don't have the reflexes / patience to fight the same fucking boss for hours on end only to end in defeat.

If that ticks everyone else's boxes then fair fucking play sounds like your going to love it.

The problem is that people imposed this reputation onto the game. It was going to have the world building of Red Dead, the story of the Witcher, combat of Elden Ring etc.

From what I could see:
  • it's a stunningly good looking game with some very impressive tech and performance
  • a huge open world that rewards exploration and clever thinking
  • tons of combat variety
All of those things still appear to be true and if you go in with those expectations it should be quite a ride.

Should never pre order digital games.

How do you explain high scores for Souls games, Elden Ring etc? They're not easy games, the difference is a top tier developer hones the experience for the players to become more challenging over the course of the game. Not throw everything at the player and overwhelm them from the beginning, that's bad game design.

Quite disappointing, I have to admit.

What I wanted:

- a cool, big world to explore
- some hidden places to discover
- somewhat of a story (not Witcher level, but still)
- an easy mode/story mode, or some mode that didn't require days of grinding

What we got:

- janky controls
- an almost absent story
- Souls-like bosses

Even after hearing the bosses compared to Dark Souls, I have to puke in circles. Why create this huge, ambitious game and limit the experience to either super passionate gamers or mostly unemployed fat fucks who don't have kids, family, or friends and can sink a bazillion hours into a game? I guess the game being made by Koreans explains it quite well. Since they're dying out with the lowest birth rate on earth, the word "kids" is something they might have to look up on Wikipedia. Of course, they have unlimited time to waste on a game.

This is one of the rare cases where my hype turns into fucking hatred.

Reading the reviews/impressions, it's definitely a game up my alley. Yes, it has its issues but one has to commend these devs for the ambition displayed here. No handholding and forced walking sections, challenging bosses, freedom - Luke Stephen's review sold it for me - thats what I'm looking for in a game and we should be happy this kind of games still exist.

I watched Luke Stephens review last night and pre-ordered right after, it's only £55 hardly breaking the bank but he loved the shit out of it and when he said it reminds him of playing Skyrim as a kid with that sense of wonder and explorilation and not knowing what's over that hill or up that mountain...that was me

Eurogamer gave it 3/5.

Not written by a 'reviewer', but one of their dozens of 'contributors'.

How does a site without an actual review team get included on metacritic and the like.

I also find that really unfortunate. Back then, a 7/10 was considered a good game and an 8/10 was very good. Nowadays it often feels like a 7/10 is seen as trash, anything below 8.5/10 is just "meh" and games from certain developers are automatically labeled as either trash/overrated or masterpieces/criminally underrated gems, depending on people's preferred console.

I don't read a single traditional review honestly, I just follow 2 or 3 streamer that have similar tastes to mine and hear what they say, and for me if Fighting Cowboy is on board, I'm on board. That's enough, and even if the game is bad I've spent way more money for 2 drinks and a pizza that were awful 😅

The story and quests might be a 70, the combat an 80 but dayam if that world and graphics aren't high 90's and that's enough for me to punt £55, for £70 I wouldve passed

What are you even talking about, I would like nothing more than this game being a 10 out of 10, Im not leaning on anything negative at all.

Wtf are u on about m8 have u taken ur pills today

There isnt anyone being rubbed the wrong way by this game, maybe its not for some but there isnt a 'hate force' for it like say Concord at all

You're not making any sense.

I stated I watched a few reviews and the reception is excellent, very much contrary to the picture that the metacritic score paints (which is basically the "mainstream western press score").

Ironically the ACG review was very much factored in to the statement I made (I watched Luke Stevens, fightincowboy and ACG, if you must know). You came back with "but ACG said" ... Yeh I already know what he said, and nothing he said invalidates the overall impression I got from the reviews I took the time to watch/listen to.

If you played BDO which personally i throught was incredible, this game is made for you. Slow, methodical, plenty of life skills etc. Its not a game for modern gamers as you have to work for everything.

Is anything being said about NPC reactivity to the player character? ACG didn't really go into detail about this. Other reviews? Is it similar to RDR2 (doubt that) or not at all?
Very reactive from what i saw\heard.

A dude said the world felt more alive than rdr2 but i think it's bullshit, huge praise nevertheless.

Some people place far too much emphasis on "finishing" or "100%ing" games instead of just enjoying them for what they are. Those same people seem to treat games (particularly single player games) like jobs, where you need to rush through games completing them one by one. Frankly, that's not how most people play games and the achievement percentages for completing games are reflective of that. This is especially true for open world and sandboxy type games, you will often see people with hundreds of hours in those games and they've never completed whatever the main quest is.

I spent well over 100 hours with TOTK and never finished it (and frankly I don't care to), but yet I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent exploring that world and experimenting/messing around with things. Wouldn't have it any other way. I see games as experiences to enjoy, not tasks to tick off.

Maybe it is time for you to move on from video games and watch Netflix instead.

I'be been hyping it up for years but now I'm low key happy I feel ok with waiting it rather than changing all plans for the weekend. Have fun guys

Sorry this game wasn't made by some creatively bankrupt Western studio I guess.

If it's anything like I expect it'll probably be slicing through paper Pearl Abyss combat. But maybe I'll be surprised and it's Shadow of Mordor/War tier. ACG's review suggests for the most part that the trash mobs usually allow you to brute force through things without requiring using your full toolkit.

So 1v1s probably much easier but maybe some challenge if overwhelmed. But you can use the environment to your advantage. Such as using a river as a slow while you pelt them with arrows.

However bosses will be challenging and we will have to learn the bosses and their movesets.

What I can say I like is how it seems very LotR coded. 3 characters kinda mirroring the Aragorn/Legolas/Gimli trio. Given this is MMO company I expect more characters down the line. Hopefully a Mage character. Especially with the prospect of Mechs and Dragons already being a thing.

The characters are using aspects of some of the BDO classes. The Orc is very similar to the Berserker Class.
Unless i misunderstood what you are saying, Shadow of mordor enemies were tough because they had this bullshit system where they learn your moves and you cant use it anymore, quintessential definition of artificial challenge, you end up with some enemies where you can't use 8\10 of your arsenal, that is not challenge that feel good to fight against.

When you didn't had those limits the combat is super easy and mindless, i never in my life thought about these games as some combat pinnacle, i mean they use batman freeflow ffs...

I do fucking hate that apparently trash mobs in crimson are easy to beat, the challenge should not only come from bosses, trash enemies is what you fight for 98% of the time, so this is a big problem for me, if true.
I hope we don't have another dogma 2 in our hands...

Yeah, some people here are actually begging for more woke trash....thats sad.

This game is literally all I expect from an action adventure game. Huge open world, cool combat, nice looking characters, no woke shit, lots of side activities, nice graphics! 100% supporting this game. I want more of this.

Big congratulations for all the losers that were saying DS2 Pc Pristine Videogame, would bomb and be on shadow (and probably will )with the release at same day as Crimson Desert ( Yes it is a Desert of videogame)

I keep reading reviews:

- The main character has absolutely no charisma; he seems like he'd be an avatar from an MMO.

- The tutorial basically lasts 10 hours to get everything working properly in the game.

Everything I read is worse.

Definitely gonna play the game, it has tons of amazing things i love in video games, love the genre too, as a souls fan ofc i dont mind hard fights/bosses so its a big plus.
About puzzles being hard- it could have been a flaw 25-30years ago when most of us didnt have internet connection and couldnt check guides, now tho u can try to solve it urself, or literally check guide or even watch gameplay step by step to solve it painlessly- no shame in that.

Review scores from professional journos= dont give a damn, i do give a damn about actual legit ppl who pointed game flaws like tons of bugs- which will be fixed in a matter of weeks/months.
Personal flaw- dat damn pop-in is probably reason i didnt preorder/didnt buy at launch so gotta wait patiently for solution here, some ppl can tolerate it just fine some dont mind or even dont notice it, to me it breaks immersion just as much as female character stronger from men so gotta wait till its fixed/modded here, patch with additional setting that obviously puts burden on gpu's vram and reduces/eliminates that problem is utmost welcome.

All in all i will definitely buy and extensively play it down the line, from my pov game is 95% good, 5% bad with all of those 5% being fixable in one way or the other, just gotta give devs(or a mod community) some time, hell maybe by then i will be able to buy goty edition with likely expack :)

Obviously wish the game and devstudio all the best, at least 5m sales durning launch window and at least 10m total, so they got money and motivation to make dlc for it and by next gen even better sequel :messenger_smiling_hearts:

It looks to me like it does not even have a 'good' and 'enjoyable' combat system. Switching between characters requires you to change loadout all the time manually. There seems to be ton of bugs that add up, and I've seen abundance of near 'objects' popping all the time, almost in every single video.
