I mean... I can't even...

God these actively piss me off.

Just looking at them puts me in a bad mood.

Look at this... Lol I mean wow...

That is hideous
It gives off a very strange sort of asexual androgynous bondage fetish vibe that quite uniquely unappealing as an approach to character design. Which seems a pretty important miscalculation bungies part and a failure of the basics of human psychology and marketing,

Edit…I do think this can and should exist…but it's soooo niche in its appeal, anyone who decided "yes we should sink 200+ million into it should be sacked 🤣

Honestly sickening to see these images. I get they are trying to be inclusive but they are excluding normal looking or attractive characters as well. So you double down on the alphabet community and don't show any representation of normal people right? Why they can't just offer both types and let the people choose with their wallets which they support!?

I was considering buying it but I won't touch it now seeing that their forward progress is so bad

Adults getting paid well into six figures just to be knowledgeable about video games sat around for days, years even, with these characters. Meeting each morning with MacBooks and lattes to figure out how to handle all the success they were about to have. You could fill literal dump trucks with just the MacBooks and iced lattes they put into these characters. 5 years, that's probably 2 upgrades per employee. Couple lattes per day. It adds up. They erected a building to nurture and grow them into a force formidable enough to take down Fortnite. This was supposed to be the PS5 Pro launch title. Imagine all the crossover marketing they had for Concord on the Pro that had to be dragged to the recycling bin. I wonder who's in that building nowadays.

This is what we're taking about. We've seen that type of armor etc before but it doesn't matter it's awesome, its cool it makes me want to be this character... What is absolutely missing from Marathon, not a single desire to play any of these ugly fucking characters... And I get its subjective but I just personally don't understand how anyone thjjs these characters in Marathon are good or fun in any way

So tonight, peak should be roughly 13.1 - 13.4k.
Yup. Looks like it came in as expected.

10 pm completed hour CCU. Peaked reached at 13.1k at about 11:30 pm
All time peak was launch day 88.3k. Today's peak at 13.1k is -75.2k or -85%

Today vs yesterday: 13.1k vs 13k (+1k or +1%)

Yesterday's low 3.8k. If the rate holds, low tonight will be 3.8k. But it is a Friday night, so might be about 4.7k

Fri vs Fri: 13.1k vs 15.4k (-2.3k or -15%). Much better than historic changes of -20%

Ratio method to estimate peaks and valleys
Mon-Thur 3.3:1. For example, a peak of 12k will have a low of 3.6k. For Fri/Sat, gamers stay up playing so the ratio is 2.5:1

Steam Rankings
Daily Active Users: 151
Global Top Sellers: 191
Weekly Top Sellers: Unknown. Not on top 100
Top Rated Games: 6,149 (83.72%)

when's the last time these people caught crayfish with their hands or just looked at flowing water or leaves falling in the wind...

You must study the babbling brook and the falling leaf to find your answer. Only then, will you be ready for Marathons teachings.

So that's a new character? Lol wtf is that

Hit the nail on it's head. Science should study the social dynamics that made it possible for a vocal minority to get this kind of influence over multi million dollar projects.

Yes, even their biggest number 1 in-house live service specialist fan doesn't appear interested in buying those skins. Thats a huge L.
The beauty of Live Service and life itself is that it's not static. We grow and improve. Listen to what Shiguru Miyamoto tried to teach you all those years ago. Stop thinking the world is 2D. It's 3D.

Bungie's current performance does not exactly support any argument based on assuming they understand what they are doing.

Marathon currently generating less revenue on Steam than The Adventures of Sir Kicksalot btw.

Yeah, but the thing is Crimson Desert put in *so* much effort to fix the things that were wrong with the game and then some.

The amount of improvements they put into the game from launch til now is absolutely staggering, much of which has been trying to listen to as much criticism and feedback as possible.

It's not even the same game that was reviewed less than two months ago.

I realize they treat it like an MMO and go for that weekly update kind of thing, but still--

Its impressive and games like Marathon and Helldivers(under a lot of fire now for bad decisions and buggy gameplay) could learn much from it.

Do they have to do weekly? No, but it shows they and many others could absolutely do better.

PlayStation, the most successful company in games, wasted over $400 million in Concord.
They shut that down in a week because they didn't see an avenue for turnaround. They've seemingly given Bungie a year and +100 developers to turn it around.

The problem with your (the royal you) critique is that you're like the Daleks from Dr Who. "This is good. This is bad. Destroy. Destroy."

The human spirit is creative, it can see multi-dimensions. Marathon can be assessed in hundreds of ways - not all bad, not all good. Some things can improve easily, other things with more effort etc...

Your overly simplistic perspective has a shallowness to it.

The only way to turn around Marathon is to make a completely different game.

There's a confluence of factors, but the underlying cause as I understand it was a lot more boring and calculating than pure activism.

It was the era of cheap money 0% interest rates and Covid driven games industry boom. That cheap money was often backed by blackrock etc and contingent upon ESG scores. To get those good scores and access to this low risk money (and because companies were under the false impression that the Covid games industry boom was sustainable) they massively hired up, primarily bringing in diverse and/or activist staff, creating bloated teams full of activists, but it got them good ESG scores and cheap money…this same mechanism meant that these activists were also empowered and emboldened to bring that to the content of the games themselves…again because it boosted ESG scores. Risky Hail Mary GAAS projects were also appealing again precisely because of the cheap money and small potential for massive upside.

BUT it turned out the boom was not sustainable. Inflation hit like a freight train globally, sales slumped, staff costs rose and interest rates sky rocketed. All these bets failed to pay off and what was previously a strength (as it allowed access to cheap money) actually became a liability as not only was the cheap money gone, but you now had massively bloated studios (that added layers of coordinators etc slowing down progress), tons of activists that were difficult to work with, and products that were uniquely unappealing to the actual audience…. And now here we are in the "find out" part of FAFO, with billions down the drain, wrecked careers, wrecked studios, wrecked IP's and brand damage, a drought of games from major publishers and tens of thousands of job losses.

Oh I agree but that was a different side of a conversation, I was just pointing out that not only is the game crushing but the look and feel is a huge part, this game looks and feels badass with all its armors and weapons, Im about 2 hours from 200 hours and it's incredible.

I don't think it matters what marathon does as it's so ugly nobody wants to play those characters.

They made players cared so much about the skins, any attempt to alter it can cause an uproar.

If something like that were to happen to Marathon, probably no one will give a shit due to already terrible design choice and instead will make fun of it, from power plug head cap to QR code face mask.

I mean this with the upmost respect and tenderness, but I think Bungie understands MTX exponentially more than you.

Sucks for Guilty_AI. I, at least, have not lost a single cent all year building a multimillion-dollar piece of software designed to take petty cash from working millennials. I think that puts me above well above half of Sony's professional MTX extractors.

Have you bought any skins from them? If so, was it to show support or were they offering a piece of art you couldn't live without?
