Forza Horizon 6 |OT| Tōge Drift

I didn't know they had two drag tracks on the map. Made my day to see a proper quarter mile one. Was having tons of fun getting my launch faster than using launch control.

I've been having a blast with this game, not too surprising, these games are always fun. I discovered all roads (except on the island), found all the treasure cars, barn finds, smashed all the boards and all the mascots, bought all the properties and finished all of the Day Trip events. I think I've only completed one actual race series just to get the noob arm band :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I really like this map; it's got a bit of everything and feels like it takes a little from all the previous Horizon maps. Handling feels great too. Like in previous Horizon games I've been limiting myself to a cheap starter then only buying cars with a pre-set budget, so I don't get lost in a pile of cars I'll never end up using. My starter this time was the old Honda City. It sucks, but in a good way. I used it and an AZ-1 almost exclusively to find all the roads and explore the map. I switched to the Ionic 5 N quite a bit for grabbing the few hard-to-reach bonus boards and the other N is my go-to A-class car for now. All the cars feel great to drive, the grippy cars like the Ioniq 5 N feel like they grab, but the old American cars feel different than they did in FH5, a lot floatier and greasier like they should be. Gameplay and map-wise, this game is great.

The story stuff is as ass as the last game unfortunately, maybe worse. I don't know how they managed it, but the characters and dialogue in this game are about twice as garbage as the last game and it doesn't let me skip cutscenes so I have to listen to them reading car facts off a list that sounds like something an AI would produce. Not a huge deal, but I wish they'd actually hit up a car meet someday and listen to an actual conversation. I've never talked to anyone at a car meet that constantly referred to their car by the make, model and trim. "I drive that 1992 Ford Taurus L with the 3.0L Vulcan V6!" would just be "I drive a Taurus" or "I took a cab here". At least the neon jizz festival stuff everywhere has been toned down this time. Trying to run this maxed out isn't in the cards for me this time. performance isn't bad given how old my hardware is now but given how well it runs so many other modern games I expected this to run better than it does. Hopefully a couple updates down the road it will improve, Forza Motorsport ran like ass on my hardware at launch and it runs in perfectly fine now (other than it being abandoned).

Forza tech is amazing, looks fantastic and is scalable across a wide variety of hardware with solid performance.

At least we can be sure Fable's gonna look very nice.

finally started the game today, on PC naturally, and for good reason. RT reflections are IMO essential in this game.

XRy34NDlFzDLEN9Y.png

Tokyo is full of reflective surfaces, and SSR+Cubemaps just doesn't cut it imo.

they should really consider adding an RT reflections mode on Series X, even if it means it runs only at 1080p internally.

I'm running it at 1440p DLSS Quality mode (I think I need to swap the model tho, apparently there's one that looks better than the game's default),
everything on the high preset, then I added RT Reflections on High and night shadows.

the benchmark test put me at 62fps average (the benchmark is a race through tokyo in the rain) so should be fine.

so RT reflections is very viable on 8GB cards.
I'm running this on a 3060ti

EDIT: wait... looking at my own screenshot just now... does this game have 2 bounces for reflections? my car's roof seems to reflect that green sign that is being reflected on the building window 😳

unless I'm missing something here, this seems like it's actually multiple bounces, which us an extremely rare sight.

If there's one thing I would add is a filter option to hide events where I've already gotten 3 stars from the map.

It's a bit of a clutter sweeping across the thing.

Horizon 6 should be available in US East Coast Game Pass now.

All flights from New Zealand are returning as we speak.

Game is great. Looks stunning and I'm having a blast.

That said these are some incredibly ugly characters both visually and tonally. I don't want to see or listen to these characters.

Here are my impressions

I am enjoying the game but I must say that it feels just like a basic copy and paste from previous games with a different map. There is nothing fundamentally different, its just the same exact formula but more refined. I believe the IGN reviewer said that there is innovation in this game which I find hilarious because its basically the same thing.

I think there is room for improvements in terms of dialogues, story progression and cutscenes presentation. The game throws at you cars constantly which makes no sense to me. Why do I have access to sports cars already so early on? I wish there was more difficulty to get better cars so you can have a reason to level up. That way you get a better character progression

Graphics are great for the most part (except for some ground textures and NPCs which are horrendous) and the driving feels really good. Music is great as well I love driving with Hospital in the background and the sound design is very robust and convincing

Japan representation is good enough but I think that streets are too wide and everything looks extremely clean which is not very accurate. Traffic and population density is definitely a big issue in this game, there should be more people and cars roaming around the streets period, there is no excuse here

All in all I will say it again. I think this franchise is bit overrated. The games are good but there are areas that clearly need improvements and more work in general

I will continue playing and report back more in the future

Papito review done

So I'm in Tokyo and figured I'd pick up a physical copy for Series X this morning. Easier said than done.

I recalled all the major retailers having Xbox shelf space, but I'd never really examined them until today when I discovered they're all empty.

Not a single game case on them. I walked all around Shinjuku and asked at eight stores. Only the West Exit Yodobashi had one out the back even though they had nothing on display.

Got a 2023 Corvette Z06 in satin black with my Crunchyroll free car voucher. I'm playing the standard version and I just noticed I already have 6 cars and a few of them are crazy expensive. This game is kind of whack for just dumping super cars on you right out the gate. :messenger_winking_tongue:

Something's a bit whack with car stats..

My main car, according to the in-game stats, driven for 360 miles and used to five hours..

Current actual game time, three hours

I changed car then straight back again, now driven 300 miles, according to the stat 🤷‍♂️

There's no way I've driven this car over 100.

Damn that boxart look sick!

I played a wee bit this morning and loving it so far. Can't wait to properly get stuck in after work.

I also tried it on deck, and it runs phenomenally, legit shocked at how well optimized this is.

So tell me folks, maybe this will get me to buy it....has someone made some cool custom paint jobs of something with something like Hatsune Miku on it? lol

I was playing yesterday around with the "custom painting" and when you "apply vinyl/decals" there are tons of community made logos and pictures...also lots of this anime stuff (Hatsune Miku is anime stuff right?...I have no fckn clue about animes)

Miku is a vocaloid, but yeah her visual image is basically anime.

Looking up online, of course there's a racing Miku paint job.

I'm having some trouble.

I can download other users created garage layouts but can't seem to apply to empty spaces of my own, it just doesn't seem to "take". What am I doing wrong? When I hit A, it does the "loading" thing but when the screen comes back, it's still the blank garage template.

Havent tried this garage stuff out yet....so cant help. But whats even the purpose of this garage stuff or this estate thing? I cant see anything making me want to engage with it. Is it just decorating stuff for the sake of?

I know with the estate you are able to build your own track there and invite your friends to it to have fun. The garage thing seems to be more of a way to express yourself and spend extra credits in the end game, once you have the cars you want. I doubt I will touch the garage thing too much.

Yeah, it's just a fun 'build your space' activity, the garage at least.

Yes 100%. My map is already cluttered and i'm only about 16 hours in.
its also a pain having to constantly zoom in on the map to check if its a race or event i have already done etc.

I love the racing in this. I get that a lot of it is familiar by now, but I really appreciate the racing still. It feels like the physics engine has been tweaked a little bit. Making sure I got gold on all races before moving on to next zone.

Grand Theft Auto, too. Its funny FH6 and and GTA6 are out same year, since they are two of the best arcade handling racers in the business.

Maybe I'm misremembering but I distinctly remember FH5 (or 4?) having that option to hide fully completed events from the map.

Bit of an oversight that they didn't have it here. Yes, I get it that all those spots are also fast travel points but let us hide them at least.

Wheelspins just straight up fucking suck or I have the worst luck.

Haven't gotten anything good other than some C, D class cars. Not even the good 100K credit ones. Sigh.

Torn.

I hate the lack of lights causing dynamic shadows in performance mode (it makes night driving a bit boring looking), so tried quality mode.

Great improvement, but down to 30fps

But a very nice 30fps.

Stick or twist? Argh!

All the pictures I've posted so far are from Performance mode, if that helps decide.

In motion, the extra fluidity definitely helps more.

Downloading the standard version via GamePass because I'm frugal mfer.
Taking much longer than usual for a game this size. I'm assuming the servers are getting slammed

Goingto pick this up but why does the lighting look so flat in the night time images?

Reminds me of the flat lighting from older generation games.
