I agree that they play *a* role. Of course. Just that the role is very minor in the "selling" of a new console. It's mostly software that people want that does that. Us enthusiasts sure as hell give a damn, but in the eyes of the general consumer it is all about providing them with software that they want to play. If graphics matter *that* much, we'd all be playing PC exclusives.
I don't even know where to start.
Won't happen.
I don't even know where to start.
From previous page, from previous month:
1080p output, high resolution assets to match 1080p, 60fps standard...
There's already BF3, Witcher 2 and Metro 2033 on PC that does these.
maybe 4k resolution in the middle of the generation?
Everything will be tessellated to fuck.
I can't believe the amount of PC Defense Force in this thread. Wow...
Next-gen console games will look no significantly better than current PC games? Really!? Are you just nuts? Are you just dismissing the entire history of generational leaps ever?
Every single time the consoles had a generation leap, the graphics were way ahead of anything that could be done on the PC at the time. Oh sure, PCs catch up pretty quickly (within a year or two), but you're just being delusional if you think that next-gen console games won't completely obliterate anything that is actually on PC.
Nothing on PC looked anywhere near close to Kameo or Perfect Dark Zero when they came out.
Nothing on PC looked anywhere near close to Super Mario 64 when it came out.
Nothing on PC looked anywhere near close to Sonic Adventure when it came out.
The upcoming gen won't be any different!
Arkham city shows that devs needs to be careful when using that technique.
Sorry, but if the next generation doesn't deliver Samaritan-quality visuals, it will be a failure. If you'd shown me Uncharted 2/3 footage at the end of the PS2 era and told me this was PS3, I would have thought you were insane.I don't even know where to start.
@ mihael. that video looks great. I'm personally happy with 720p with good post fx + AA + nice shaders. 1080p has never looked right to me. too sharp.
pc graphics never look as good to me as the best of gears3+uncharted2/3.
I know but It's not like this is helping at all, in fact it's even worse because this means that the only direct feed image of something for wiiu is 720p (so not full hd) and still presents a lot of aliasing (which is embarassing for a 2012 console at that level of detail)That's a blown-up image, which introduces its own artifacting/aliasing.
Half-Life 2/Doom 3 look significantly better than Kameo and Perfect Dark and they had much better image quality too. 720p was low res when the gen started and it still is.I can't believe the amount of PC Defense Force in this thread. Wow...

PC graphics look too sharp sometimes to me, because they aren't taking advantage of the resolution to its full potential - you get high resolution polygons but not enough of them (sharp knees) and textures suffer.
If you have assets (meshes and textures) designed for 1080p it'd look AMAZING.
Yes this aliasing at this level of detail for a 2012 console is just impressive

seriously from what we've seen (and I'm not saying it will remain like this) the wiiu is very very disappointing

Some of you are, for some reason, selling the next-gen consoles short. When they first come out they will eclipse current PC capabilities- this has always been the case with every console generation (Wii notwithstanding). Then in 1
year the PC will be ahead again. That's the cycle.
But thats just not true. From previous page, from previous month:
PC gamers are really defensive.
Console gamers are in denial.
Generalization is awesome.
See what I mean.
For a game like Mario having a high resolution and AA is so essential, Mario honestly doesn't need to look much better than that.I don't know where these console defenders come from. Console gaming is great, but when talking graphical fidelity this generation, it's been a value proposition from the veeeeery beginning. No other empirical measurement can be used to say consoles beat a high-end PC at any point. Be happy that you paid hundreds vs thousands, but don't sit there and try to convince yourself you are happy with (maybe) 720p. The art assets are always timeless in gaming, but who wouldn't have rather had this vs 480p.
No, please do explain.

To go from Uncharted 2 quality to Uncharted 2 quality in 1080p you need exactly $0 in your budget.I expect the games to be like "Uncharted 2 quality" but in 1080p.
The reality will probably be that many games won't have the budjet to be there.
If you're seriously comparing Far Cry from 2005 to Uncharted from - well, any of them - then you should step away from the computer.
lol that's my Dolphin pic of Mario Galaxy 2

Probably 720p just like the 720/PS4 :/. At least Nintendo is usually good with their framerates.Just imagine what Nintendo is gonna put out with the Wii U.![]()
And it looks sweet as hell. I find it very hard to go back to my retail version of most my Wii games after being ripped. I love the art in this game, and having it in higher resolution only helps me appreciate it even more.

Let's hope that it will be nice anti-aliased. Playing SS in 1080p with 4xAA and 16xAF is a beauty to behold. 30 FPS The Legend of Zelda: Green Valley in 1080p with 4xAA will be godlike.Just imagine what Nintendo is gonna put out with the Wii U.![]()

I need to fucking set up Dolphin. If Mario Galaxy was designed for PC it would be the best looking game ever, hands down.
I mean it looks great on the Wii, which is something.
That's sorta my bad, after I took the screenshot I added some sharpness to 'enhance' the pictureToo sharp man. I prefer it look like this.

Yes, every single PC gamer out there are being defensive because of a direct comparison that didn't take place in this thread.
Well argued sir and the generalization stands.
