I wonder if Skyrim will still be in the running for GOTY.
It absolutely will be, but that's not the big question. The big question is whether or not magazines/sites will give that award to the PS3 version.
Skyrim is, for all intents and purposes, an Xbox 360 game. It was designed, built and created for that platform, ala Bayonetta. It just so happens to run extraordinarily well on PC's due to similar architecture and the horsepower to bulldoze through most of the deficiencies.
You can probably count on it. PS3 RPG of the yearHope i'm wrong though.
Been running great for me on PS3. Is this happening to a % of players, or what?
The POWER of the Cell? Amirite?
Isn't Skyrim PS3 version made by Bethesda themselves?
That would be Mass Effect 2.
This kind of situation will probably hurt more Sony than anyone else. I already told my brother to stay away from PS3 version and get on the 360 instead (he doesn't have a PC like mine which can run it.) He will probably tell the same to his friends and so on.
Fixed for accuracy. That would be Dark Souls or Deus Ex.
I guess my experience differs. It takes around 5-6 hours of average gameplay for it to take a shit. Then I reboot the game and all is well until another 5-6 hour session.
This, I am sure Sony are seething over this as someone who doesn't follow the internet reports on this will blame the hardware.
The only people that benefit from this is MS.
Well this shows how much the reviewers played the fucking ps3 version.
Well this shows how much the reviewers played the fucking ps3 version.
They weren't sent the PS3 version. Reviewers got the 360 version.
There really is a stupid sense of entitlement this generation.
I mean, I don't recall Genesis players calling Capcom for their "money back" when their version of Street Fighter had garbled voices. And those of us that played the Saturn versions of Tomb Raider or Resident Evil were fine to live with lower framerates or the elimation of some features like transparancies. We were just happy to get some of the ports to enjoy alongside of the awesome first party games for the system.
Obviously what is in that video is pretty crappy but the disservice you guys have been done is by the game reviewers that failed to adequately test and let you know that this is what you were facing if you bought that version of the game.
Console ports have had superior and inferior versions forever. And there have been ports that have been shitty forever. Yet the mentality used to be "buyer beware" not "fuck the company who made this." Buy the better version or live with the inferior one and be glad you still get to play it. Hell, we used to even decide to buy consoles BASED ON better versions of games. Now it seems like the very existence of a better version leads to crying of lawsuits, refunds, and general decrying of the developer.
Can't tell if that EG post is a troll or not.

Uhg.. anyone know how a pc with gt 8800, q6600 and 3gb of ram would run this?

Better than a PS3 (or a 360 for that matter).Uhg.. anyone know how a pc with gt 8800, q6600 and 3gb of ram would run this?
dude, Bethesda's games are UNPLAYABLE, literally UNPLAYABLE for many PS3 owners. i can't finish my Fallout 3 DLC because the game often runs at 1 frame per MINUTE. now how am i going to complete any quests like that? a single fucking VATS sequence makes my PS3 crash after chugging for five minutes trying to go through a couple frames. my PS3 crashed several HUNDRED times with Fallout 3 and its DLC, resulting in a corrupted HDD.
don't downplay this issue if you know nothing about it. better for you to say nothing at all.
i applaud Eurogamer for continuing to highlight this issue. massive props to them, seems like they are one of the few gaming sites with some integrity left. we should keep pressuring Bethesda until they admit they are criminals and apologize to everyone and give us our money back.
I doubt Sony "seethes" over descrpancies in ports to their system which reveal themselves after 60 hours of gameplay. Only fanboys are that fucking ridiculious. Not even the people who have money at stake are that stupidly psychologically invested.
You've just answered your own question. Anyone who's played a Bethesda PS3 game (developed in-house and not outsourced) could have predicted the results.
I'm not defending them in the least, simply pointing out the obvious.
Fixed for accuracy.
I don't think I asked the question of why the PS3 version of Skyrim sucks, but rather explained the difference between the process of developing Skyrim PS3 version and Bayonetta PS3 version, which you used to explain why Skyrim was shitty on the PS3. Usually if it's handled by the main dev it's gonna be at least decent/good and not awful like with Skyrim/Bethesda games.
No one could've predicted this. It's their biggest IP and most people would've thought it's gonna be a decent port and non of the reviews mentions anything about the problems (played 360 duh!).
Oblivion was outsourced and used embryo
Fallout 3 by bethesda, embryo and had same bug
Skyrim by bethesda, embryo (whatever they say...) and had same bug.
So they only made ONE game before for the PS3, Fallout 3, and it's not unusual that people think they would've had the decency to patch up the engine to NOT have this bug in their next game. But NOOOOO, they don't give a fuck and just ships a unplayable mess of a game.
Anyway, can't wait what Bethesda have to say after reading that DF article.Probably, we don't give a fuck :/
Do you really think Sony are not annoyed that one of the years biggest games runs like shit on PS3?
Why bethesda supports PS3 like this I really don't know but it would appear that they hate the hardware and refuse to put in the extra man hours to get a hold of it.
Not buying a game when there are two versions that work doesn't really make sense though.Once again: As much as Beth can be held accountable as it happens in ALL their games that use Gamebryo. But Beth hears you, and Beth doesn't care.
So stop buying their shitty PS3 ports and send them a message that if they're not going to bother supporting the damn thing with non-shit ports, they aren't getting your money. Too bad people will just buy the PC/360 version instead of making a stand against all of them.
EG, agreed with the above, but not sure what it has to do with your other post? Skyrim becomes unplayable. I don't think it is entitlement for the end user who bought a game to have a working product.
Run on medium settings, should be ok.
There really is a stupid sense of entitlement this generation.
They should just give up on PS3, Bethesda can't handle the system. That or just give their games over to whoever ported Oblivion to PS3 and let them handle it.
That being said I hope 3rd time's the charm for people. Next time do not buy a Bethesda game for PS3 if there is one. Listen to the warnings next time.
Run on medium settings, should be ok.
It'll run but be prepared to lower your pride. Much of the fancy effects will be turned off or set to low.
Better than a PS3 (or a 360 for that matter).
That is the kind of thing that would not have recieved this kind of outcry in previous generations. My version of Symphony of the Night for Saturn had frequent slowdown. Tomb Raider's framerate in the pyrimid area dropped to single frame rates from time to time.
No one could've predicted this. It's their biggest IP and most people would've thought it's gonna be a decent port and non of the reviews mentions anything about the problems (played 360 duh!).

There's also New Vegas using the same engine, which for me worked way better than Fallout 3 despite having more densely populated areas.
I played it for a lot longer as well since it's a much better game. So it's not just an issue with the engine sucking, Bethesda just needed to spend more time with the PS3 version of the game. Pretty embarrassing too considering New Vegas was done in half the time by people who had to learn the tech from scratch.
Speaking of Oblivion: I saw the GotY edition on sale at a shop (PS3 ver.)
How good is the PS3 port of Oblivion?
