3DS December Update Detailed

I've been getting online Mii's since MK7 updated my system. I guess that was part of the mini-update.
SO I HAVE DONE THE SYSTEM TRANSFER AND CAN CONFIRM THAT IT IS AN EXACT TRANSFER FROM YOUR OLD 3DS TO YOUR NEW ONE!

All of my saved data, 3DS games, 3D trailers, virtual console games, NES games, and settings are there, including all the Mii Plaza stuff. It's all unchaged. Most importantly, the little Ambassador Program video icon is still there which I assume means those of us who transfer will still get the GBA games when that starts rolling out.

It even has my icons on the main menu in the size and order I originally had them on.

It seems like it does like when you do a Time Machine backup for a Mac where it restores all your settings, only your old 3DS get wiped in the process instead. Otherwise, it seems identical so far.

Awesome, and I'm glad to be wrong on this one.
Now I won't have anything to worry about when I eventually upgrade to an XL model or other.

I got the Starfox panel, with the middle four pieces being purple.

I got the Yoshi hat, Top hat, and Arwing (wtf) hat so far. Find Mii 2 looks like it will have a lot more to do than the first.

Tried out the new QR code functionality. Pretty good so far. Only issue I have is that if you scan a Mii QR it tells you to scan it in the Mii Maker app. Why not just launch it automatically like it does with the web browser?

Here's a QR code I made as a test. It links to a nice 3D photo.

(To get to the QR scanner press L or R from the 3DS main screen and tap the checkerboard button in the lower left part of the screen.)

So, what's this Nintendo Zone?

It's a channel that downloads little apps/catalogues and other junk when you're in range on a specific hotspot. Best Buy supports 'em in the US, they were giving away 10% discounts on 3DS games via Nintendo Zone not so long ago.

Neat, it works very well.

Sweet, the photo looks great. Does this mean the 3ds can now scan all those QR code adverts?

You've met over 100 Miis!
You've met Mii characters from 10 different regions!
You've made it through a room in Find Mii!
You've broken through a yellow shield in Find Mii!
You've broken through a light-blue shield in Find Mii!
You've lit a dark room in Find Mii!
Someone has given you a fantastic rating!
You've completed five panels in Puzzle Swap!

Also my first puzzle is OOT 3D.
Holy shit the seasons change in Puzzle swap according to the actual season in real-life.

People i've met online in days past up to like 5 days are showing up on the new Plaza.

Here's a pic of the regions:

Oh, thank you!

I know the 3DS is several years behind the time, but QR CODE MADNESS BEGINS...

chart

(...too bad Google Docs spreadsheets load so poorly on the 3DS screen...)

For anyone wanting to play with QR codes, see http://code.google.com/apis/chart/infographics/docs/overview.html . Google has an automated service/tool to turn any bit of text into a QR code.

Code:
https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?chs=150x150&cht=qr&chl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.neogaf.com

Just replace the www.neogaf.com code there with any URL you want...

That's neat. Didn't know google had such a thing. It is a little simple though. This is the second result on google for "qr code", a site that also lets you generate QR Codes with a UI.

http://qrcode.kaywa.com/

I saw that and it works well too... I just figured folks would like the Google one for being just a URL... the Kaywa one offers some more customization!

I do actually prefer the google one because I like simplicity. But most people would probably think it's too cumbersome or something.

Side note: doing a random internet search stumbles across someone saying there is a notice that a single 3DS system can only do five system transfers in total across its lifetime. Anyone have info on that?

Granted, I don't see it as being the biggest issue (how often will one need to transfer between 3DS systems?), but I could see folks worrying.

5? lol that sounds janky as hell...why would it be limited?

Oh... in case anyone is curious, the "download through Spotpass" queue is in this new eShop, along with credit card storing...

I saw the cc bit when I managed to log in (briefly) after updating... the queue was revealed when I got curious and read the freshly updated eShop Manual. Remember, you can read manuals without running the software! Full details inside...

The eShop is working for me right now, though it still looks the same. Also, no Pushmo for download yet. And no GBA games either.

The features they've added to the Find Mii sequel make me ecstatic! The
combo attacks of two same-coloured Miis and various potions
are neat, but my favourite addition is the ability to
re-hire old heroes. No more random waiting for a particular shirt colour!

Spoiler-worthy? I dunno. Erred on the side of caution.

This feature of Miis being added when you play someone online. Does it work with every online game? The only online game I have is Tetris.

No, I think it's only in Mario Kart so far. I know Tetris, Street Fighter 4, and DOA don't do it.

The eShop is back up, but the only new thing I see is the redeem download code thing. It's under Settings/Other.

Wow, the update is already out. I thought it was going online tomorrow.

Started the download but it is being super slow.

They should do this more often as people generally hate delays. It'd seem like a better idea to plan a more generous time frame in the first place and if they complete it early, great.

The only thing I wanted from this update is the GBA games/ find mii 2. At least I am enjoying 1 of them. Loving that you can buy past friends miis to take with you!

Are you telling me you all got all hats in Find Me? I finished it once and still have about 20 hats to collect :-/ Do you need to finish Find Me 4 times to get Find me 2?

Having so much fun with the update.

I figure this might have been talked about before, but there's going to be so much 3D porn now.

I already had a date with the 3D camera about 6 months before the system dropped. Same thing with this update. Good times bro, good times.

starts slow but once it gets going man

you will be wowed

Well it finished while I was having breakfast. Was worried I'd have to leave the 3DS behind since I need to get to work.

Oh Jesus the Congratulations Messages in Mii Plaza won't stop!

for people that keep asking about the ambassador program I thought it was already strongly rumored that the gba games would be coming on the 22nd
don't quote me on that

I'm downloading the demos now off the Japanese eShop, it doesn't take too long. :)

Nintendo limits the Plant Encyclopedia to 10 tries
Shin chan - 5
Cooking Mama - 30
MH3G - 30
Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary - 30

Wow Nintendo...

On the Japanese 3DS e-Shop there are a few demos already for:

- Monster Hunter Tri G
- Puyopuyo 20th Anniversary
- Cooking Mama 4
- Shin-chan whatever...
- Oshare Audition 2 (crap stuff)
- Hana to Ikimono rittaizuukan
- Dead or Alive Dimensions

I'm downloading the MH3G demo now. It requires 1356 blocks...
