Ahh good. This is my first smartphone and the battery is horrifying (coming from a k850i that would happily go a week without charging).

Guess I'll just have to get used to leaving it on charge. Wish these things had a slot so I could have a cradle.

Just plug it in when you go to bed each night. You'll get used to that, it's pretty standard for a smartphone.

tbh I don't think you'll see a great difference but any improvement is nice, but a charge every 24hr is pretty much standard

LOL they are going to hire you as a Community Ambassador.

You mock, good sir, but as an iOS user, I am skilled in the art of talking up WP7 as a non-threatening passive-aggressive fuck you to Android.

Besides, I just looked at the iternary and they're serving free lunch at this free workshop. That got me interested but I'm really hoping they'll promise all attendees a free Lumia.

So Canada GAF, who wants one?

Well that sucks. Any word on competing browsers like opera coming to it?

That aside, just got asked to update my Lumia 800. No idea what it is though as there seems to be f'all in the way of info in the details.

Edit - This thing apparently:

Impressions of the phone?

Is there no way of seeing what updates to apps are actually changing? Seems like clicking on info just gives you the app information not any kind of change log.

For some stupid reason, Micrsoft doesn't provide a separate field for change logs, so devs have to use the app description. Not everyone likes to do that.

Alright, Amazon finally got some definite information to me. Titan will be in my hands by next Thursday. So all in all, it has been about a 3 week wait. Not too bad since my contract ran up with Verizon just today.

I've had to format my hard drive and now all my music is obviously gone. Microsoft now tells me that there's no way for me to get back the music I've paid for. They're joking, right? There has to be a way for me to re-download these files. Every other MP3 store I've ever used (iTunes, Amazon) allowed me to re-download everything after contacting customer support.
Telling me I should have saved them somewhere doesn't help. I already know that. :)

Did the same thing happen to anyone else? Is there a "solution"?

The battery cover for the Omnia 7 is the worst I've ever come across. A breeze could cause it to come off

Official explaination*:
That's the case with DRM-free music, yes. It's your file, you own it and you have to take care of it, i.e. backup it. When you lose your favorite music CD, you can't get a replacement either.

*Zune Insider podcast

If it's stored on your Windows Phone or Zune, you can transfer it back to your PC.

Well... that's what you get for not pirating music, I guess.

Twice now my Titan has restarted out of nowhere. Once was a day or two after I got it, it was in my pocket and I felt it vibrate, when I pulled it out it was booting up. It just happened again about a minute ago. I'm at work and it's sitting on my desk, doing nothing, and I haven't touched it for ~10 minutes. I heard it vibrate so I look over, and it's got a blank white screen and then the HTC logo popped up as it's restarting.

Anyone else have this?

Not with a Titan, but my HTC Mozart reboots randomly from time to time.

Pretty rare for it to happen when I'm not using it though, I have only noticed it do that once. Easy to miss though.

It was awful nice of Amazon and Apple to allow you to re-download files, but that's not what their rules say is supposed to happen. Maybe you got lucky with them and got a douchebag on the MS side, I don't know, maybe you can try again and see if you get a more sympathetic CS rep.

And yes, if you had pirated the music you'd have still lost the music, but not your money (at least not the Zune stuff). That doesn't make it all right. I feel you though, I can't imagine losing my collection, which is why I've been uploading my tracks to Google and Amazon in addition to my external backup drive. The free cloud storage is why I buy music from Amazon too, the only music I get from Zune are the 10 free tracks a month.

Concerning the whole XBL app coming to iOS... Halo Waypoint is also making its way to iOS, and Android, along with a new Halo app called ATLAS.

But...

Halo Waypoint on Windows Phone, iOS, and Android devices is free. ATLAS is $4.99 on iOS and Android devices, and free on Windows Phone 7. Worldwide pricing varies depending on currency and region.

And this is how they should do it IMO. The basic app is free everywhere, though with more features on WP7. As for additional apps, they're free on WP7 and, if available elsewhere, then are paid apps.

they still need to come through on this though.

I don't know if it's because of the bigger screen, or this "keyboard lag" is real, but I make a ton of mistakes on my HD7 whereas on my Focus I could hammer out paragraphs. Quite annoying.

The keyboard got worse in mango. Not sure what they did, but it's pretty bad at correcting spelling errors now.

So Twitter gets a whole new look, and the iOS and android apps are updated accordingly today, yet we still don't have toast notifications or live tile.

Wow, that ATLAS thing sounds pretty cool. I don't play Reach much any more, and I don't think I would have found a use for it if I had, but that is pretty awesome that it can get real time data like that. Anyone know if regular devs can interface with a 360?

And wow at the Zune DRM free thing. Didn't believe you van(no offense), so I looked it up and sure enough:

Note

We are currently unable to replace MP3 songs that you delete or lose. For this reason we highly recommend that you back up your MP3s by burning them onto a CD. WMA files may also be burned onto a CD, but you may only burn the exact same playlist a maximum of seven times.

Ah, ok. I don't buy iTunes music, but I remember having the issue with Amazon where you couldn't download your music twice. Don't know if it's been updated, but with the cloud storage, I assume its a moot point there as well.

Also, I'm reading the terms on the page you linked: would that apply to snap's issue considering its a new drive and may be viewed as a different computer? It seems to suggest it has to be the same computer in that write up, but I'm not sure how they define that. It'll for sure be a new instance of iTunes for him since his drive kicked the bucket.

Not wanting to be that guy... but the redownload came in with Itunes in the cloud, as per
Apple support link said:
Note: Previously purchased music is only available through iTunes in the Cloud in Australia, Canada, Cyprus, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

the previous t&c's said

Apple old t&cs said:
Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage.
(from Terms of Service (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/legal/terms.html))

and it's still here in the new one as well

When you first acquire music iTunes Products and music video iTunes Products (collectively, “iTunes Auto-Delivery Content”), {snip}

As an accommodation to you, subsequent to acquiring iTunes Auto-Delivery Content and TV show iTunes Products (each, “iTunes Eligible Content”), you may download certain of such previously-purchased iTunes Eligible Content onto any Associated Device. Some iTunes Eligible Content that you previously purchased may not be available for subsequent download at any given time, and Apple shall have no liability to you in such event. As you may not be able to subsequently download certain previously-purchased iTunes Eligible Content, once you download an item of iTunes Eligible Content, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage it, and you may want to back it up.

they may offer the service now, but they still don't have to honour it.

You get 5 authorized computers. You can deauth all and start fresh if you want, but they're always connected to your iTunes account.

Yeah, it came with iCloud in the summer. And that's just regular terms of service speak to cover their ass. Most services offer no liability in their ToS to protect themselves.

but from 04 till summer 11 there was no recourse if music is lost due to no backup, and in many countries there still isn't.

I prefer Amazons wording in their T&C's
2.4 All Sales Final; Downloading and Risk of Loss; Availability of Digital Content. All sales of Digital Content are final. We do not accept returns of Digital Content. Once you have purchased Digital Content, we encourage you to download it promptly and to make back-up copies of it. If you are unable to complete a download after having reviewed our online help resources, please contact Amazon customer service. You bear all risk of loss after purchase and for any loss of Digital Content you have downloaded, including any loss due to a computer or hard drive crash. We may, from time to time, remove Digital Content from the Service without notice.

Again some of this backup is negated with their cloud service, I wonder if Microsoft could tie the music downloads to Skydrive... though to be honest I feel the fact there is a record of purchase people should be allowed to re-download from that service, ala LIVE, Steam, D2D etc but I guess it's the record labels seeing possible profit.

On a side note I much prefer the movie industries licensing approach with Ultra Violet in that a purchase gives you a lifetime license to that media.

seriously how ridiculous is it that Windows Phone online can install an app right to your phone through "texting" and the page links sync to your current theme color...

gezzus these guys are good. LOL

Uh…ok? We're talking about the present and how snap couldn't recover his music.

This doesn't make me feel any more confident than Apple's terms. They all have limited liability.

For those that care I have an unofficially official request out there to see how WP7 users can get the Twitter.com website redesign considering to get the redesign as of now you have to download the new mobile app which is iOS and Android only.

I'll let you know when I get a response shortly as I have connections.

Well outside of hitting the mobile.twitter.com to try stuff out it appears we WP7 people are SOL until they just flip the switch for all. I didn't ask when that will be because I got the hook up and got my twitter flip switched so I have the new site layout now.

Suck for WP7 users though, and it's a prime example of why WP7 still lags behind iOS and Android in this regard.
