Interesting to see a new IP from Naughty Dogs. Its good to see something new from them instead of another uncharted. Looking forward to this.

Looks like you and I are alone then, cause the rest of GAF wants this to be linear and corridor so it might as well be Uncharted 4: Golden Brainzzzzzz

You are saying two different things. What I've said above is also true for Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3.
I'm not disappointed in the visuals nor the technique. I like that they are videos as opposed to real-time, because that is the exact reason that allows them to load in the background so I don't have an interrupted game playing experience.

What i'm saying is that there really isn't a sizable gap between ND's cutscene graphics and in game graphics. That's why you see people mentioning that there have been times when they didn't even notice that an Uncharted game had transitioned from a cutscene to gameplay. I expect the same thing from this game.

This proves the reason as to why I don't want next-gen to happen just yet. Nothing I've seen so far on PC looks to be a generation beyond what we currently have and that includes Samaritan.

Technically The Last of Us is not even that far off Uncharted, it's just going with a different visual style which makes a difference.

Except you will never see something that looks a generation ahead of consoles until the next generation starts. No developer is going to spend that amount of money making their games look that good.

Not only that but games look better as the generation goes on. Nothing at the start of this gen came anywhere near what ND is doing now. So what you are seeing in terms of next gen game renders isn't the peak of what will be achieved next gen.

On top of all that is the whole diminishing returns. I don't think it matters if they wait a few more years there is no way the next gen of consoles will be as much of a step up as this generations.

I think even using whats available today sony and MS can make a much more powerful console and i don't want to wait any longer. This gen has been long enough.

I'm with you too. I really don't want another Uncharted and I seriously hope they are distancing from it. I want something more... deep and serious.

Most of GAF are like that. As soon as a game comes out it's like "What do you want to see in the next sequel?".

And they cry about the lack of originality in the industry.

It's amazing. Naughty Dog is pure art :O :O, looks like The Road / Walking Dead game. Hell if some third parties do the same with PS3 hardware... :O

You mistake people saying they don't want this to be Red Dead Redemption like open-world game to "I want corridors". There are more levels of freedom than totally open-world vs. corridors. People just want this to have a strong narrative, something very few (and some could argue no) open-world games have. Doesn't mean there can't be some exploration (like, getting to check out tons of stores and some houses along the way).

I love the look of the game. I love that it is a character driven survival horror. Hell, it might even have some platforming like Uncharted in there.

The animations will be top notch - This is Naughty Dog.
The music will be top notch - This is Naughty Dog.
The environments will be top notch - This is Naughty Dog.
The graphics will be top notch - This is Naughty Dog.

Throw in all of the things they've excelled at like sand physics, water, fire and ice. . .this game could be blooming excellent.

Cannot wait.

I also love how its Naughty Dog's new team making it. More Naughty Dog on a regular basis can never be a bad thing. It'll mean that each of their games could have slightly longer development cycles.

Why does open or sandbox have to imply originality? You think open world as a game design construct is original?

What's the best open world game this year? Arguably Skyrim. Best linear game? Arguably UC3. I'd say that UC3 in a few ways is actually more original than Skyrim (especially technically speaking with certain procedural dynamics, providing an extra layer of uniqueness to arena's etc). Though to me, neither are remotely original really. Point is, being linear or open world shouldn't in itself constitute originality.

People asked earlier...why we need PS4?

We need PS4 so third parties can make games like this.

Yeah that's how it's been with each generation so far, and I'm sure it'll happen again.

I was mostly responding to people who jerk off over Samaritan. It's barely better than what we currently have, and Epic have stated that's their benchmark for next-gen.

They do what they do to a level of polish that is just out of reach for most devs. Be it graphics, story, animation they do it all. Bioware make the best RPGs, ND make 3rd person action games better than the rest. This is just my opinion of course, I'm not saying they will make games YOU like, they make games I like.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

what fucking year are you living in?

Great to see a new IP from Naughty Dog, although I would have preferred it not to be in the zombie territory. Uncharted was great because it was a breath of fresh air, whereas zombies and dystopian landscapes is such a well trodden area.

This reminds me a lot more of 'I am Legend' than 'Walking Dead' or 'The Road' and I'm not sure if that is as good a reference as Tin Tin and Indiana Jones.

I'm sure it will be amazing though, RE4 still brings back good memories and was a great predecessor to Uncharted.

Reading through this thread. What the fuck is with all this shit about wanting it to be linear. Fuck that. You got your fill with the Uncharted games. It doesn't need to be open-world. Just expand the level design to where there are at least two bloody directions to go to progress. Oh, and make the gameplay compelling so you don't have to rely on scripted stuff every five minutes.

It's true lol. People say oh we don't need a new gen with games that look like this. Well, there are about 3 other console games that be mentioned in the same sentence with this.

I literally said WTF in real life when I saw this and read that it was being developed by Naughty Dog. I did not see that part coming. Will played anything by ND at this point. Godlike status dev team(s).

I would be more excited for this if I didn't expect the survival horror aspect from the trailer to be watered down. Despite the tension alluded to I'm sure 5 mins into the game we'll be taking down mass horders of "infected" without a second thought. Give me original RE/Demons Souls tension to the combat and I'd be sold.

that's my biggest wish. If this is just another 'waves' shooter like Uncharted though then I'm just gonna pass.

I think people just don't want this to be Uncharted in a horror setting. They want it to be significantly different and unique enough to stand on its own

hell no, best linear game this year is Witcher 2 by far. If you have a 360 be sure to cop it early next year and witness the truth.

Best graphics of the year too, dat clothing detail.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
well since the raw ND talent from U2 seems to be on this I'm looking forward to it more, but its a shame U3 had to suffer in that regard and now seems like a treading water game in retrospect.

The premise still doesn't excite me because I just feel like the apocalyptic city over-run by some form of zombie thing has so run its course I'd have rather ND looked to other setting tropes like futuristic sci-fi or even something medieval to splash their engine cash over.

Also between Ellie and the more modest Lara Croft, I wonder if next-gens oversaturated main character type will be lithe yet modestly not too-sexy females getting covered in dirt to replace this gen's bald/brown haired space marine set.

People saying the trailer is pre-rendered are giving ND the biggest praise. It is clearly running in realtime. you can see from the shimmering on the tree leaves in the beggining, the self shadows artifacts, and some aliasing here and there. It is realtime people deal with it.

I wasn't exactly looking forward to another zombie game, but my interest rocketed up 1000% the moment Naughty Dog was revealed to be the developer behind this. Trailer looks awesome btw, i have big expectations now :)

Seriously? Now those are two things that are way overdone in this industry.

in comparison to stuff like Skyrim and inFamous 2 I thought it was linear. But oh well if it's open world then it's best open world game of the year too then......

maybe my definition of open world is kinda off then. Because I consider it open world when you can travel to all the different sections at any time (as opposed to witcher 2 when you're stuck in a particular playground during the act)

Interesting that you choose to post this after they have confirmed it works the same way the Uncharted cinematics work which is pre-rendered in-engine.

The Last of Us trailer was definitely not CG. all in-engine captures from PS3, just like Uncharted cinematics :)

Not being open world =/= linear

Is GTA linear because you're confined to each island until you progress the story?
