GI'd perfer they just give every character a taunt, but for a hero like Venomancer, Viper, their very plane. Lots of the beast like heroes don't have much to be customised.

I would think they could get away with things like "horned carapace" or "feathery antenna" and things of that nature without changing the entire skin.

They could also add slightly different colors/effects for certain moves and attributes, like maybe slime trails or whatever.

This is true, they could do different animations for attacks, I wonder how this would affect tournaments, I know in HoN alternate skins are allowed, wonder if they would limit this stuff for DOTA2

I would like to buy different animals for Beastmaster.

Oh, I know it would just be a different look, but my beef is that it is already hard to spot, a different animal may actually make it harder.

Ghetto Lich?

I'd rather not have complete re skins, unless they re-record the character lines to suit the new costumes, similar to what they do in HoN for completely new skins.

lol they arent gonna record 15 minutes of new dialogue for skins.

Learn the timing and range for powershot.

Don't treat shackle shot as a targeted stun like Impale or Hex, you need to be able to get the shackle effect off whenever possible.

Use E to run, tower dive (it dodges towers), kite, and circle around heroes to shackle them.

R should be used for buildings, it is a terrible hero killing skill because you'll be running around shooting shit most of the time like Legolas.

Force Staff, Eul's, Orchid, Guinsoo are all great items on her. Mekansm too if your farming is good and no one else is getting it.
Don't bother with Focus Fire at level 6, don't think I ever see anyone bother with it until 10+. You should get Mek. pretty much every game and you'll be able to farm it much quicker than most.

cm's movement speed is so bad though. and her base damage is also shit. the only thing that is better is her attack range. and I don't think a roaming cm works. she needs dem levels, frostbite isn't even hard cc. :O

vs is like the perfect support hero.

For someone who have never tried any of these games before (Dota, Hon, LoL), do you think Dota 2 will be a good place to start?

The one thing that has been holding me back from trying is that i've heard that the average lenght of a match is close to an hour. Is that true in Dota 2 as well so far?

Long games are particularly likely for Dota 2 since teams can't concede early. You HAVE to finish the game unless someone leaves.

Well if your new to the genre, it won't last an hour for you. Will be a quickie for sure but the more you do it, you will last longer.

It's going to be rough where ever you start to be honest, where you want to begin depends on which game you want to play in the long run, if HoN appeals to you more no sense starting with LoL then switching over, same case with the other 2. It's more important that you start with people that will be patient and helpful to the learning process for these games, then which you start with, playing with random people in matchmaking can be rough cause generally the community has high expectations of teammates regardless of what Matchmaking bracket / rating you have.

Also match length on average is around like 38-47 minutes, but at least if your losing in DOTA 2 you can read item descriptions and get used to the portraits / get a feel for other stuff.

Match length will be the least of your worries once you get into things though

Thanks for your reply. The thing with game length though is that i can rarely sit down for almost an hour without being interupted several times. My 6 month old daughter makes sure of that. I just downloaded LoL and will give it a try, once i get the chance to try Dota 2 i guess i will.

Another game that just popped up on my radar is Bloodline Champions. A game i had never heard of before today, i'll give it a try tonight but that's not something for this thread.

Sad to say this may not be the genre for you, kinda requires you to focus on one thing for the duration of the match, stepping away can be really detrimental to the experience and team. Good luck with LoL though, Dominion is really fun.

The biggest problem with inhouse games is that they are rarely balanced. Milkman is, by far, the best Dota player on GAF. That means games have to be balanced around him which typically means taking 2-3 above average players on the same team and having them play against less experienced people on Milkman's team.

Honestly you shouldn't let people that are good play in IHs where majority of people aren't, it's generally a bad mix. Unless you force the good players to go mid, and even then it can be super uneven depending on hero picks.

Also Puppetyuber > Milk.

But Puppetyuber isn't a GAF member any more.

I've not played with milkman, but I wouldn't say anyone I've played with on GAF is that bad at the game. I'm not great myself, but I haven't seen anyone actively drag the team down.

You must've never encountered the No Doom Meteorain Doombringer, or the MKB Daedalus Sanjay Windrunner, or Swiftlame's Vengeful Spirit, or Archie's mid-Pugna, or Ranvier's Arcane Boots Dragon Knight, or Alumnus's level 1 Maledict Witch Doctor, or Thorin's roaming Mirana.

I love you guys

More like the perfect feed hero.

Also, dota gaf ih bringing the salt, it's about damn time. The last time I played with gaffers Haly guilt tripped me into throwing.

And here's one problem with being a total newbie on Dota 2 (and MOBAs in general). I've only bought items on the suggested list, and haven't bought any from the shop yet. Took me a few days to realise that there's tabs on the shop window.

Love the game though, despite the steep learning curve. Here's hoping the people at Valve expand more in the tutorial side of the game.

it's relative. better players might be inclined to disagree with you.

How did the Radiant win? Looking at that, the Dire should have won.

A combination of Tom being the world's most annoying Dark Seer and mass blademails sealed the deal :*( Looking back, I should have sold and rebought my BKB so I had a full 8 seconds of it again. Oh well.

Also, when you start comparing skill levels, it gets pretty ugly and confusing. I have no doubts that Puppet is a better farmer and carry player than I am, but that's not the role I enjoy the most (nor am I sure it's the role he likes to play the most, either). He's probably also a better support than me, too. Ksan is awesome, I've only played with him a few times, and the one time I got to play against him, he unfortunately randomed Spectre and I randomed Morphling, so there was no way I could gauge it really because I was doomed from the start. Swag plays way better support than I do, I wish I could play like him because everyone desperately needs great support players.

I'm most comfortable being team captain and playing the solo ganker role. So heroes like Pudge, Nightstalker, Clockwerk, Tinker... those are heroes I am okay with saying I excel at. And yeah, you can say, "Person x is generally better than Person y," but I don't think it's the best comparison you can make.

I do my best when supporting [competent] carries. U:

Also, the two times I was forced to go mid Dazzle, I rocked the casbah, but I think that was just coincidence more than anything else. Had nothing to do with my skill level, per se.

Dunno why I'm chiming in, though, 'cause I'm clearly one of the worst on GAF, so my skill level is irrelevant.

Sadly in an In House this is the role that takes the most advantage of players with lower awareness / reaction times, we tried having higher skilled players play supports when we did HoN In Houses and it was still pretty salty.
