I dont get all the love for Schmit. I think he is funny but at times I think Nick is just as funny if not more funny than Schmit. I like them both though and I think they play well off of each other, especially last weeks episode.

Nick is the most enjoyable but he needs a tiny bit more character development. I like Nick the most to be honest.
I think all 3 guys are equally funny at times but Schmidts ridiculousness pushes him slightly ahead. Not to say the others arent ridiculous but I think you know what I mean.
Jess is funny too which surprises me because I thought the commercials made her more annoying than anything.

Awesome, but that video just makes it seem more and more that Schmidt is gay. My wife and I showed a few episodes to a friend of ours and he thought the entire time that Schmidt was gay. And after he pointed it out, and after that video, I can see how people see that.

The actor has had a number of gay roles. The actor may even be gay and it could just come across... who knows. I still find him awesome.
I think he comes off as a textbook metrosexual.

The top search for Max Greenfield on google is "Max Greenfield gay." That's pretty common for actors, but take that as you will.
Yeah I would assume if Schmidt were gay he'd have figure it out by now.

He is the best part of the show for me, but I did find it interesting that my friend was pointing out that they thought he was gay. They were also praising the show for having him shirtless often.

LOVED the latest episode. Schmidt and Nick are fucking great and even Winston improved tenfold since he randomly appeared in the second episode. Great show.
Man. I just caught up with this show after initially dismissing it after seeing the trailer. Zooey was pretty awful in the first 2-3 episodes, but the rest of the cast is fantastic and after the bumpy start this show became remarkably good. Really really enjoying it. I'm also glad they randomly decided to dump that dude from Happy Endings, Winston is way better. Though it's kind of jarring that he just vanished and everyone just pretends he never lived there.
Poor choice for him. Happy Endings is okay, but it's really poorly written and acted.
He was on for the pilot and the next episode they explained why he wasn't there anymore, don't know why you think that is jarring and that people pretend that he was never there.
Ahh, must have missed the explanation. For a couple of episodes I was wondering what the hell happened to Coach. Around episode 4 I figured he was gone for good.

You crazy. Happy Endings is the sitcom most committed to being funny. The plots aren't usually that great, but the jokes are.
Yep. Ten times as funny as new girl and probably the 3rd or 4th funniest show on tv. Also has some of the better comic actors around right now; they've immensely better cadence when telling jokes in their show than the characters on this do

Also, he didn't choose Happy Endings. Actors who sign on for show pilots are released if the show doesn't get picked up, but otherwise they're contractually committed for five-plus years. He had a fallback plan since at the time he shot the New Girl pilot it looked like ABC was going to bury Happy Endings and there was no chance of renewal, but once HE was renewed, he had no choice.
That said, I like Wayans Jr on Happy Endings AND I like Lamorne Morris on New Girl. Morris has a pretty low-key vibe, but that's fine.

Finally got time to check out the rest of the episodes. Wow, this isn't bad at all. Favorite episode was the naked one. What the fuck happened with the pilot though? Guessing they canned the writer or director for that one.

Sitcom pilots are generally not that great. They've had the same showrunner for the entire time. Also, Damon Wayans Jr. was the highest testing part of the pilot.
hahahahahahhaha no. Happy Endings is one of the funniest shows (and one of the most critically successful sitcoms) on television right now and easily outclasses New Girl - which is itself a funny show. Also, easily the best sitcom on ABC right now now that Modern Family has hit a lull.
Same with Adam Pally and BFFs on NBC. Wayans' energy fits Happy Endings much better than what New Girl has turned into - which is fine. Morris is perfectly fine.
Agreed, but Happy Endings is also in its second season and has had more time to figure out its voice. Most sitcoms get better after their first season naturally.
Pilot's are almost always quite a bit different than the rest of the series. If not then they grow into themselves after a few episodes.
Personally, I don't notice a difference in the pilot and the rest of the episodes but that's just me. And I watched them all in one sitting.

It starts picking up in the 2nd episode, and slowly climbs from there. The pilot does not do the rest of the show justice. You do have to just keep going with it and it grows on you.

I love Zooey, but she was a little TOO quirky at first. Now she is just odd and believably quirky, where it was way overboard before.
I happened to like the pilot, actually. I think most sitcom pilots really aren't very representational of their eventual selves, but I think New Girl did a good job of knowing its beat before it was picked up. I think it's turned into a more ensemble show, which is good, but as far as sitcom pilots go... it worked a lot better than any of my current favorites.
No, I agree. Most comedies, in general, end up changing the way they work once they get their beat. But I think New Girl had a better pilot than most sitcom pilots, which speaks to Liz Merriwether's vision of the show.

I thought the show really started to get good at episode 3, The Wedding. But it was Cece Crashes that made me love the show. Just how ridiculous Schmidt was.
