I happened to like the pilot, actually. I think most sitcom pilots really aren't very representational of their eventual selves, but I think New Girl did a good job of knowing its beat before it was picked up. I think it's turned into a more ensemble show, which is good, but as far as sitcom pilots go... it worked a lot better than any of my current favorites.

Agreed 100%, and very telling of the showrunner's vision, considering one of the four characters was replaced and the show managed to never miss a beat.

One of my favorite scenes is Jess meeting Winston for the first time. Her bedroom song, "I'm Jeeeessss" with his wailing cracks me up every time, lol.

Spoiler about an upcoming guest star. I dont know how spoilerphobic everyone in this thread is, so I will black it out.

EW said:
Well, you might not be that Jess, but you sure will be wishing you were when Dermot Mulroney joins the cast as the new, temporary love interest for Zooey Deschanel’s character. As the father of one of Jess’s students, Mulroney says he’s not sure how steamy things will get between his character and Jess, but he’s shooting for the nudity moon (– a phrase I just made up and look forward to using often). “How many clothes are you allowed to take off on a TV show? I would like to try to take off as much of her clothes as I can,” he jokes. ”I’m supposed to be a slightly older man and she needs to decide if she can get serious about me, and then maybe he doesn’t turn out to be as serious as he appeared. The thing writes itself. I think they have me for three episodes, but if it works out, we’ll see. We haven’t started shooting yet, but on episode 1 we haven’t kissed yet. On episode 2, I’m gonna make her uncomfortable, for sure.”

Over the past few posts I was thinking "I noticed cece was gone, but how could you care that much? She's hot, but not funny really"

But that image reminded me how hot she is and I miss cece

We built this Schmidty. We built this Schmidty on Tootisie Rolls!

That is going to be in my head for a few weeks :lol

also, even though Cece was not in this episode (Even tho her and Schmidt's thing would have been perfect for this episode) Lizzy Caplan in knee socks and a sweater (for a total of 10 seconds of screen time) made up for it.

"Bishop in a turtleneck"

I want a douchebag jar in my next place. My current roommates don't say shit like that.

douchejar segment was awesome, the outfit one was just too much, giving this show a chance proved to be a smart decision.

Once again Schmidt killed it!

Goddamn Lizzy Caplan. I had a thing for her way back to Mean Girls.

Then she did nude on true blood. So good..

Lizzy Caplan. Like this show needed another girl for me to be in love with.

Great episode too. Schmidt kills it as always and I was glad to see the douchejar back. "twenty-NINE!" made me laugh so hard.

Wait, that was the Mean Girls girl?

The thought crossed my mind, but she's lost a LOT of weight...

Imagine if he forgot his wife's too, lol

I might jump back into this show if you guys seem to like it, the pilot was so much dogshit I'm curious as to how they could have salvaged it. Not that it ever seemed that far from being a stable, decent sitcom, in a weird way, it just seemed lazy as fuck.
Just try it. I also thought the pilot was terrible, and to a lesser degree the second episode as well. But it's become really really good.

Smashed out the first 10 episodes last night. It's definitely decent stuff. Zooey is eat-a-kitten adorable and Schmidt is good value.

I found Wayans' departure to be quite jarring, despite not having any significant resonance with any of the characters after the pilot. I think it's more down to the fact that Morris just isn't that good in my eyes. His acting/character/mannerisms just seem "off".

Highlight for me:

The way Schmidt says "TWENTY-NAIGHN!" at the end of his birthday. Such a douche.

EDIT: Also, when do the episodes air in the US? I'm downloading as I go, obviously. Dirty scoundrel pirate, I know.

I think she's funny and has great chemistry with Schmidt... that's why I like her. *shrug*

Did I miss an episode, or was that just an odd way to introduce a new character? They just plopped the lesbian down in the apartment like she'd been there all along. Other than that interesting decision, the episode was great.

chutney.
