Parcells did this. Had Tony Sparano as running back coach and Sean Peyton as passing coach and it worked.

I could be wrong, but wasn't Parcells the play caller though? So he had two assistant coaches who designed and schemed, but on game day he made the calls.

In this case, you'll have Tice calling the plays essentially in direct conflict with Josh McDaniels (lol) who wants to throw the damn ball.

I don't know, I see it failing without that ultimate authority...and no way is Lovie going to call plays!

It's a concern but then I think the drops have been an aberration. Just a week or two ago before he dropped the sure touchdown against the Redskins we were going on about how sure handed he was. The Packers game in particular if memory recalls. He made the catches against the Cowboys when the offense needed to seal the game also.

i.e. I don't think he warrants that type of doubt yet. He's been far more sure handed and explosive than not in the years he's been with the Giants. Not to mention, despite all of the hoorah around Cruz (which is deserved), Nicks is directly responsible for some of those big plays with his blocking. I mentioned it during the Cowboys game. That 74 yard run after the catch doesn't happen without Hakeem sealing that shit off. He does it on passing plays, he does it on big runs. It's not one of those things that makes you go "ooooOO" but you can't ignore that type of contribution and he's been doing it all season long.

I'd append those concerns about drops to Manningham more so than Nicks. Manningham has consistently shown those types of concentration issues. I can think of three instances right off the top of my head where Mario dropped perfectly thrown balls that might have won the Giants those games. In one, his drop ended up being a blessing in disguise. In another I can, without doubt say the he likely cost us the game.

Naw, he let the two alternate calling games. Even if it worked once, I still see this as a disaster in the making. At least the team is now putting a premium on trying to keep Cutler healthy, whereas Martz didn't give a fuck how many times Jay got hit.

Tice won't let Cutler get hurt. Chances are he'll have money on him and he won't want to lose on that bet.

LOL, of course the bears hire Tice. I said before the 2011 season began, that it wouldn't surprise me that Martz gets fired midway and Tice is the OC. It happened a little later than I expected. Well at least he's an improvement over fucking Martz. I actually think Tice will be decent as an offensive coordinator. It's obvious the bears want to sink with the Lovie Smith ship though. If I was the Bears, I would have pursued the packers qb coach or someone on that staff.

Now we're going to be stuck with Ted Phillips, Lovie Smith, and Tim Ruskell. When is the real rebuilding going to begin? This team is so fucked.

Tice was in charge of the OL that let Cutler be sacked. 9 times in one half against the Giants in 2010.

I hope this is a second chance and that he takes advantage of it.

He later admitted that these charges were true and the NFL fined him $100,000 on June 30, 2005. It was the largest fine ever handed down to a head coach in NFL history until New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000 for having a team video assistant film the New York Jets' defensive signals. Tice's fine is still the largest for a head coach who does not also have the title or powers of general manager (Belichick is effectively the Patriots' general manager).

The Bills have this as well, I actually love having a run game coordinator. Many college teams have one, and I just think it preps the backs better. Run game coordinator doesn't call the game though.

Talent maybe? Miami is lacking a QB but does have some talent on defense and offense. Did they fire their GM as well? I personally believe he'll end up in St. Louis. The lack of a QB prospect in Miami will be the deciding factor. Along with being able to select a GM and likely have the ability to control personnel in St. Louis.

Well if the two teams played next week, Miami would kill the Rams. The only reason Miami is bad, imo, is b/c of their ownership/front office circus. That's what Miami is trying to sell Fisher on. That they've cleaned up their act.

I'd like to think an added bonus for him in STL is that he can hire Sparano to coach the OL

Hm, so only the best offenses employ this strategy!

I had no idea it was as prevalent as it seems. Or maybe the Chicago media is just overblowing the level of involvement the passing coordinator will have.

OL coach predominantly does both, but teams do seperate the position. Guess since it's the passing game people are going to make a bigger deal out of it. No one gets angry at the OL coach who's responsible for installing the run game if it fails, he's an afterthought.

Easier to hand out the run game than the passing. I saw someone mention that Tice won't be installing protections since he has nothing to do with the pass game, everyone's grasping for something. Need something to talk about. Main problem is you want your play caller and QB on the same page.

Calling plays is the biggest responsibility I feel of OC during the game. I cant recall Tice ever in his career called offensive plays. To me that is huge.
 
Well, here’s some good news for anyone wanting Tebow Time to last a little longer.

Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey will not face Denver on Sunday after suffering a setback in his injured ankle in practice this week. Pouncey missed two games at the end of the regular season, but he was able to play in the season finale.

Doug Legursky is expected to move to center like in last year’s Super Bowl, with Chris Kemoeatu at guard. Denver’s defensive line should be able to get after a hobbled Ben Roethlisberger.

Looks like we just signed Mardy Gilyard... hope he can help with our mediocre KR.

The Eagles announced the signing of wide receiver Mardy Gilyard to a futures contract Friday. Gilyard, 5-11, 194, was a fourth-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2010. As a rookie, he caught six passes for a total of 63 yards. He was released by the Rams prior to the 2011 season.

Gilyard, 25, also has experience as a returner. In 2010, he returned 16 kickoffs for a total of 356 yards (22.3 yards per return), with a long of 34. He played his collegiate football at Cincinnati, where he caught 204 passes for 3,003 yards and 25 touchdowns. Gilyard was also named the Offensive MVP of the Senior Bowl in 2010. The Eagles, of course, have had success with players from Cincinnati in the past, with Trent Cole, Brent Celek and Jason Kelce all becoming significant contributors in their post-Bearcat careers. Perhaps Gilyard will be the next in that line of success.
