Redskins had a top-ranked defense in like 2008 but it didn't mean shit because although they didn't give up a lot of points or yards, they never forced sacks or many turnovers, and the yardage they did give up often was big plays. The Giants D, on the other hand, despite being ranked low overall, were still forcing sacks and for the most part, turnovers, all season long. Your secondary, which has never really been much above average, was the cause of your headaches throughout the season. That and your offense turning the ball over which necessitated 4th quarter comebacks. It's like saying Tebow was ultimate clutch in the 4th quarter; the Broncos wouldn't have needed to come back in those games in Tebow had played better the other 3 quarters. Eli is not an elite quarterback, and he will not win another SB (even if the Giants D-line hulks out for the remainder of the playoffs). Period.

1) Secondary has been an issue all season long primarily because of injuries. We lost Terrell Thomas who was definitely our best defensive player last year at #2 CB, and our guy that we drafted, Prince, missed so much time he is damn near ineffective right now. We've had a safety playing as our nickel CB all year - how can you dismiss that? Further, we lost two LBs before the year, and Boley was hurt. The zone coverages we try to run don't work if we have guys that aren't around running them from day 1 playing in those positions.

2) LOL @ your turnover comment. Not quite friend. Eli threw 16 ints on the season, 8 of those were in three games (3 against SEA, 3 against WAS, and 2 against SF). As a whole the Giants combined for 5 fumbles on the year. Let's get real here dude.

You're wrong and laughably so. Was talking to Meier and he pointed out how not a soul talked about Eli putting up 4900+ yards this season. All you hear about is Brees, Brady, and Stafford putting up 5000 +. Eli's mark was fourth this year, sixth in all time NFL history.

How can you talk about Eli being out QBed by Grossman. The Giants secondary was horrific for much of the year, and until the Jets game, the Giants receivers weren't helping Eli out much at all. Did you forget Hakeem Nicks' huge drop that pretty much changed the game against you guys?

Who has the record for most fourth quarter touchdown passes in a season?

I hope they ask him again if his teammates let him down.

And I hope there's a surprise Jermichael appearance.

For the record, I don't think you did it, Ray.

This.

Several members of Packers Age were calling out the Defense. Shit, Efforkusu was calling them out all damn year. Me and TL were talking about how shitty they were a few weeks ago and how they were going to be a liability. Ez then proceeded to troll us lol - to be fair he loves to troll everyone though!

I was right when i originally said it and im right now... this D is garbo. Opportunistically below average

I never said the defense wasn't shit, I said it was good enough to win football games. 15 of them, in fact. The Packers need to be able to move the football and find the end zone, making the other team one dimensional and thus turnover prone. Capers played aggressive in the secondary all year because he knew the front seven simply wasn't equipped to get pressure. That aggressiveness led to turnovers (as long as the other team was forced to throw). The Giants weren't forced to do shit. And to be fair to the defense (and if we're playing what if bullshit) turnovers gave the Giants some damn good field position.

Like Santana Moss' butterfingers didn't cost us a win against the Patriots? Or our receivers dropping the ball just as often as yours? And as for Eli's stats: Passing league. He had 589 attempts! 8.4 yards per attempt. What kind of secondaries did the Giants face all year? His biggest games yardage-wise were against Dallas, Miami, Seattle, New Orleans. Not exactly secondaries that clamp down on opposing teams' passing yardage. Grossman had 458 attempts (which is ridiculous, 1) because he's Rex Grossman and 2) considering he played only 13 games). And he ended up with 6.9 per attempt! With dog shit as receivers.

Head-to-head in the Giants/Redskins divisional games this year:

Rex: 36/58 62% 490 yards 2 TDs 0 INTs 1 FUM lost
Eli: 41/72 57% 525 yards 0 TD 4 INTs 1 FUM (not lost)

Eli's stats are inflated, and he is an overrated QB. He will shit the bed, either this week or next. I guarantee it.

Now that it's been a week do you think anyone is going to forget that your team lost to Tim Tebow?

Nope. Why should they? A bad performance is a bad performance. It would be pretty silly to act like it didn't happen.

Also, to be honest with you I would rather have lost to Tebow than to the Patriots. I don't know if I could have taken a whole offseason of that.

1. I'm not saying you didn't have injuries in your secondary. I'm saying it was a weakness for your team.

2. Guess who 4 of those fumbles came from?

Eli is having an elite year, but he isn't elite yet. I want to see if he can repeat what he is doing this year next season. Too inconsistent to be considered elite.

I think it could definitely be a pivotal season for him. He has always shown flashes of absolute brilliance, but generally he'll pepper in a fuck-awful quarter, half or even a string of games that make you wonder. That hasn't happened much this year. I can't really think of a game where he played terribly. The defense is what was suspect all year long, not Eli.

He isn't Brees, Elder Manning, Brady, Rodgers but he's always in the list that comes right after those. He sits in company with Rivers and Romo which means that Eli is still darn good.

So my buddy in Scotland is a huge 9ers fan. What is the best way for him to catch the game on Sunday? Is there a site he can use, pay per view or a bar?

We watched the last 10 minutes of the 9ers/Saints on Ichat which was pretty cool...especially since it was a crazy awesome finish.

Fair enough I suppose.

We all know that this defense didn't win 15 games though. The offense did. That was readily apparent yesterday. The defense played about par for the course yesterday. The only difference was Rodgers and the offense were sputtering.

Rodgers and the offense struggled twice this year... both ended in a loss.

I thought 07 would be the turning point for him, but it wasn't. It is now almost the same exact situation as 07 except he is playing even better with better weapons. I'm waiting to see what he does next season before I declare him an elite QB. It's also hard for me to say he is elite considering he threw 25 interceptions just last season. Like I said if he can do this again next season there will be no doubt in my mind that he is elite.

Yup. I really wish they didn't drop so many passes. I hate thinking "what if" they caught most of those.

Damn it all

I really think the Giants can beat SF this weekend. I'm happy they made it this far, especially with beating Green Bay and Atlanta.

Well, they did. They might not have been responsible for the wins, but they were apart of them. An average game from the offense and the Packers win that football game. They were completely shut down, frustrated and embarrassed. The defense did enough to give that offense a chance to win the game. Expecting that defense to all of a sudden step up and make up for an offense that is shitting all over itself is absurdity.

Eagles-GAF, can we please have cullen jenkins back? :(
Next season will be interesting.

Easy schedule (of course that could change) and the offense is still going to be great.

I think Collins will be back and Mike Neal will come on (assuming he can stay healthy). That injury set him back big time and I think once he gets an off-season, pre-season, etc. he can be a solid contributer.

And hopefully they get a good player at DE or OLB like Melvin Ingram or similar.

That would be nice, but he's a huge wild card. He did nothing this season even after the injury. Hopefully he gets better.
Collins, too. Yeah, that would be nice to get an all-pro safety back but he's not in control, his doctors are.

Agree 100% with ez's post just above.

That's the point. His injury set him back physically which inhibited him from growing as a player.

Who knows about Collins but even if there's physical drawbacks, he has great instincts and plays smart.

I guess we are just splitting hairs then? Of course they were part of the wins but you and i both know they weren't responsible for them. The offense won us 15, the lack of offense lost us 2. Live by Rodgers, die by Rodgers.

Last year the defense was capable of winning us game where Rodgers was struggling and was generally an elite or near elite unit. This unit stands no chance without being given a lead.

Opportunistically below average is a perfect descriptor. I just don't get how the defense fell off so much from one year to the next :/
