Yeah because in the NFL, no fumbles are ever called with a guy going backwards after a hit. That's bullshit and you know it.

Except the ref blew forward progess, and review confirmed it. This is not a new precedent here, that call has been used to overturn fumbles before. Sorry you've never seen it until now.

Yeah, throwing for 55 percent, 316 2TD/0INT.

what garbage.

300 yards on 58 throws isn't good. I think most of those were in the first half, which was my point. Eli also threw like three picks that he got bailed on by Niners running into each other. He ate a lot of sacks that killed field position in a FG deciding game. I just didn't find Eli to be awesome or Alex to be awesome. They both got shutdown in the second half and OT.

So I tried arguing to my friend that if Eli wins this Superbowl, that he should be recognized as the better Manning. He counter-argued saying Peyton will be a always better due stats, more playoff appearances, and the whole bunch. What do you guys say?

Think its a case of the stats not being everything. Eli would definitely be the better Q where it counts. I'm sure this argument will go on forever though.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Actually it wasn't. The whistle blew early and a good 80% of fumbles happen like that. If you want to say that was a good call, then almost every fumble in the NFL needs to be reversed then.

That's not even close to being true.

Rules are rules, and that play was called by the book.

Peyton is borderline GOAT material, so yes he's better than Eli. SBs are not the best metric to rank QBs by. Was Dilfer better than Marino?

That said, Eli belongs (at the very least) in the Big Ben "underappreciated elite QB" category at this point. Dude's great.

BTW, the obvious winner for the Super Bowl is the Patriots. Now I'm not saying that because they're going to be favored but because of the gut feeling I get when you've been watching football for a while. For example:

Called the Chiefs upset vs. the Packers - it goes against all logic but if you watch football and have a keen sense of intelligence in terms of being observant you KNOW the Chiefs had a good chance to win that game and they did.

Called the Giants beating the Packers last week - You KNEW there was an excellent chance of it happening despite it going against all the trends and logic. The Giants finished the season very strong and their defense took it to another level so the obvious pick was New York. And they won.

Called the Giants win today - Same deal here as all the above. After San Fran's fluke win last week due to Saints fumbles and Alex Smith's game of his life leading to 30+ points from the Niners you KNEW the Giants were most likely going to win today, it was obvious. I don't know how to describe it in words, it's a gut feeling if you've been watching the sport since you were a kid and have the type of personality that's observant and kind of OCD in terms of details and superstitions. Anyone know what I mean?

Anyway, I'm getting that same feeling for the Super Bowl. Pats win it easily.

hqahahahahahahaha

Coward Harbaugh goes all Schwartz and refuses to talk to the media.

Your coach is a twatty cunt, FMT

No shit, he's an awful loser and will probably be more disliked than Belichick when people are more familiar with him. Harbaugh is a great coach, he just strikes me as an asshole.

You think the rain, wind, and wet heavy ball had anything to do with that?

Giants will win handily.

Being a Cowboys fan I am pissed now. We let the Giants in by missing two game winning kicks, and then losing to them. That's a pretty crazy bunch of circumstances that needed to occur for them to even make the playoffs, now look.

Go Patriots.

I remember Brady looking like a scared punk dodging ghosts against the Jets. MVPs are meaningless if you don't do shit in the playoffs. Just please stop posting

Ha he asked me what the Pats have done since 2007. I was telling him. And I don't need to justify how good Brady is, he speaks for himself.

I guess everybody is ignoring that Eli did nothing for most of the second half of the game? He couldn't get the giants to the other side of the field. Alex is going to get hate for the same thing.

That's because the Giants were forced to become completely one-dimensional and the 49ers could bring constant pressure without concern. Their defensive game plan, especially for the second half, was pretty much spot on. They just couldn't get the job done mostly due to their special teams.

I've got no problems with no immediate post-game interview... hopefully he'll still have the regular presser within the hour though.

The point is, the whistle was blew early. How is this different than the fumble always seen, someone taking a big hit, falling backwards as the ball is coming out - usually after a sack. I guess technically the forward progress stopped at the point of the hit and the ball was coming out as he was going backwards too. They NEVER reverse that type of call and the whistle never blows. It was a bull fucking shit call.

You should put some money on it. Your prognostication powers are clearly flawless.

God damn Kyle Williams. Part of me wants to be sensible and acknowledge the fact that Alex Smith didn't take a bit of risk in the entire game. He took a few shots down field but only completed a single pass to a Wide out. Why weren't they running Gore and Hunter throughout the game? They were dominating the rush game and the game should have never even came down to the wire like that. Fuck Kyle Williams though. He was involved in all 3 fumble/turnover opportunities and didn't do a single thing on offense.

THIS is FMT? Didn't he realize Alex Smith is a wet blanket ankle-thrower?

I never understand people hating on Brady. He's the best since Montana. All you have to do is watch the games.

Somebody needs to take the Revenge of the Sith poster and put the Pats in there. It's basically asking to happen and Belichick would make a great Darth Sidious. 2012: Revenge of the Pats

Yeah, you're right. Throwing 58 times with zero picks and two TDs is the mark of a terrible QB. They should fire him before the Super Bowl, just to be safe.

Mentioned this earlier, and I hate to place the blame on Harbaugh for this after a tremendous coaching job this season, but he cost his team the game by being too confident in Smith. The last 3 possessions of the 4th quarter should have told him what to expect in OT. He inexplicably went from like 70-30 run to pass to 30-70 on the last few drives of the 4th, and after those were complete dud three and outs, he continued doing it when they got to OT for some reason. It's like he wants to prove that Smith can win the game when he can't. They went to predominantly shotgun sets when their power formations were keeping the Giants D Line in check.

And keeping that PR in the game to fumble the ball after the first gaffe finally nailed it.

Shame.

Yeah, there should have been way more runs in the 4th and OT. They had a tie game with the ball with like 3:50 left on the clock. That's plenty of time to run your normal offense and get FG position. The way Alex was getting yards out of the pocket, I would have called a QB draw on an all out go route when they got the ball with like 39 seconds left. They had three timeouts to burn. They just needed an underneath play and long run.
