The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

It's funny... I'm looking through Skyrim Nexus for a new set of Armor to use with my character because I'm growing tired of the Eisen Armor, and my god it is amazing how much bad taste there is on here...

While some of you might think the Eisen Armor is Japense Anime style (and it is I won't deny it) that's about as far as I would go, but jeez some of the stuff is just rediculous and there are so many mods that just make the armor 'skimpy' and make the boobs show but they look absolutely TERRIBLE but they have tens of thousands of downloads... wtf!!

yes, and even when those skimpy mods approach some sort of good-ish taste they still look kind of ridiculous because the characters still look stiff as hell xD

Seems I have figured out why my game is crashing now.

My save file has gone over 8mb.

Apparently the game starts to experience crashes when the save file is over 7mb in certain areas!

I'm hoping patch 1.4 will fix this... I really hope it will.

Edit - or perhaps not.

What mine is 12mb.. :/

Hell no! My game saves are now over 14 MB and I've been experiencing a lot more CTDs recently. I must've been pretty stable even at around 8 MBs. Damn Bethesda.

Yeah... I love Beth games, but damn I wish they weren't so buggy it's so frustrating!

You just wanna play the game but it always crashes or there are bugs that piss you off.

This is what is happening to me now:

I just had a battle with some bandits, and now my character wont stop sighing like she's recovering from Stamina burnout or running out of stamina or something... I can't seem to make it stop no matter what I do.

Anyone got any ideas on how I could fix this? It's so annoying!! I would be happy to completely delete that sound from the game if need be!

FFS it's like I can't possibly have a week without running into a problem with the damn game - it's at a point where I am so absolutely satisfied with the visuals that I am so in awe some times that I am so happy about it, problem is the mods are probably causing some of the problems, but I can't go back to playing without them all... Double edged sword.

How do you go about tweaking ENB's brightness setting? Can it be done?

Here's the deal, I'm using this config Cinematic Lighting ENB - CLENB - by HD6 and I like it a lot except for when it's daytime in towns or when you go inside a house, everything it's a bit bright for me, especially the ground on towns and walls on houses.

How can I tone it down a little?

Toggle god mode on and then off? It might work. :3

Yep, first thing I did.

I tried turning off all my mods - still happens.

New game, doesn't happen.

So it's something to do with my character and some sort of plot progression bug I assume.

There are a lot of those fixes coming in the next patch so I can only assume that they will fix that.

I've downloaded the Dohvakiin Hideout mod today and I'm going to try and get into Whiterun through the basement of my house - it's not really "right" but I'll give it a shot ay?

Have you messed with uGrids by any chance? I had a similar problem following the
talking
dog, and it turns out I'd incorrectly set up my uGrids (cells were correct, buffers weren't, and that + AO = CTD). If you've tweaked your uGrids, use the steps in the nVidia tweak guide to reset your grid settings back to default, then rename your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini. And if you have AO turned on, try turning it off.

I haven't had a single CTD since I correctly set up my uGrids with LAA turned on (either via mod or, with the 1.3.10 patch, built-in).

Thanks, I will try that.

I have significantly reduced my CTD by removing Armory 300. It is either clashing with one of my other mods, or the new version 7 has something that the game doesn't like. The mod owner has removed comments now though so too bad, it's gone. As much as I liked the mod, I had to get rid of it.

New problem for the day? Somehow I've managed to expose all of the map markers as though I've visited everywhere on the map! But I've never used a hack or a mod to reveal them all? I wonder if it was a sub part of another mod somehow?

Does anyone know if you can re-set your map markers back to none?

Beta patch is out on Steam.

http://www.bethblog.com/2012/01/23/now-on-steam-beta-update-for-skyrim/

I just tried it, performance is MUCH better than the normal game, and even better than Skyboost.

Also went straight to Windhelm, and the Blood on the Ice quest works for me now, so at least some fixes are retroactive.

Was about to post this, heh.

And yeah, people are reporting performance better than the latest version of Skyboost. Have to say that while Bethesda rightfully gets a lot of shit for the buggy state of their games, with Skyrim they really seem to be listening to the community and stepping up on their post-release support.

I'll give this a shot.

I'm happy with my performance but more performance is always better.

So should you remove skyboost if you get the beta?

Yeah, you should remove Skyboost. Not that it will work with the new 1.4 executable anyway.

Also remember to follow the instructions on backing up your saves before you start using the beta patch.

Fuck yes...I'm getting 60 everywhere in Whiterun now...biggest drop was to 59 at the top spot that was dropping all the way to 45.

Anyone else getting a Skyboost error saying it's not supported? I guess it's time to try test 2 version on the site.

Skyboost hasn't been updated for patch 1.4. Just remove it, it's unnecessary now.

I read the forums just now. I will remove and see what happens. Without testing first hand, I can't say whether or not this invalidates SKyboost anyways. Good if it does. Then maybe SKyboost can update to work even better. Off to test.

That did certainly help performance. No Skyboost and I'm getting 60fps everywhere except the one waterfall area as your exiting the underground in Markath. Whatever they did, performance is definitely improved. Even the view overlooking the smithing part of Markath was 60. It seems less sporadic but I do notice a little microstutter more with this patch. It may be other things but either way. Performance is definitely improved.

Yea I think performance is pretty good.

I don't have any benchmarks but it was all good. I agree that there might be a bit more microstutter but I'm happy.

So beautiful!

Looks even better in game without any picture conversion in photoshop.

Been meaning to ask about this...Whenever I pan to the sky quickly, I get this blown out look for just a second in the clouds as if there was some explosion of light behind them. It was like this pre patch, just hadn't asked here yet.

That's supposed to be your eyes adapting to the brightness of the sky.

That ground texture's level of photorealism really seems to work against it in that screen. It ends up just making everything look faker everywhere geometry intersects the details of its pattern.

Press 1+Page Down to lower the brightness, but you have to do this every time you launch the game. I have no clue if the author is going to fix this since so many people complain about it but still isn't answered.

It wasn't in the release notes, but can someone with a 360 controller tell me if this update resolves the unresponsive d-pad issue while in the menus? Some of the other fixes may have fixed this one possibly. I hope.

yeah but I'm a one character gamer... I have a 141 hour save I don't want corrupted, plus I'm lazy.

Back up the save file. If it does anything bad you can replace the save file, and then de-select the Skyrim - beta from the menu. Steam will revert back to 1.3.10.

The cosmetic mods that I downloaded seem to be working fine (Skyrim HD, improved map, flora, etc.), but Dovahkiin hideout isn't working (there's no way to get to it in Breezehome), and neither is potions reweighed, and I don't think Tytanis or the other content mods are working, either. Any suggestions?

Not sure I really like that effect...

I've never had a problem with this that I can think of, but I can test something if you like.

Is there a mod that makes the night lightning darker and the dungeons alot darker? I want a good reason to bring me torches to the dungeons or throw mage light around. I know the Enhanced Shaders that makes the nights perfect, but the dungeons from my experience still kinda leave something to be desired.

I use this.

Just one file and it looks great. Posted some screenshots earlier in the thread.

It looks like SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender) was updated for the new beta 1.4 patch. I'm don't have my laptop to test it though.

http://skse.silverlock.org/

Should allow a lot more mods to work with the patch. SkyUI, for example, should be fully compatible now.
Good :) but SkyUI's Container Categorization wont work unless you update it manually with gibbed's extender http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1227
Hopefully SkyUI will update to 2.1 with it bundled.
