Well, Flynn is a FA, right? Wiki says so.

Anyways, it's too early to say exactly who (Flynn's going to Buffalo) but there can't be too may worse options out there. (McRibb retired, right?)

Didn't know his contract was up this year, everyone kept acting like the Packers were going to trade him.

I'm not making excuses for Alex, he played like crap in the second half. Even with that said, if the 49ers replace their QB, but ignore the (desperately needed) WR upgrade, not much will improve.

The 49ers don't have a WR that can stretch the field, nor do they have a WR that will jump up and fight for the ball. They don't have a WR who can get YAC.

What they have is

A WR who has potential, but hasn't lived up to his draft status and fails to show up in crucial situations (Crabtree)

A WR who is a good possession WR (Morgan)

A WR who is better used as a return man (Ginn)

A young WR who is learning and screwing up in the return game (Williams)

Davis and Walker are the best players in the 49ers passing attack, but they can't do everything.

Unless he can get in a time machine and assassinate Archie Manning before Peyton was conceived, that ship has sailed. Peyton Manning is an offensive coordinator on the field. His control of the offense is like no other QB has ever demonstrated.

dude i guess your right. i can't necessarily argue with that... but in like the mind of the general public i think if Brady wins more he will be remembered as the QB of this generation and all that...

GB will probably tag Flynn and then trade him.

The only common denominator here is Smith. Why not give the rest of your offense the benefit of the doubt that Smith has gotten for seven years now.

You're right.

Brady 64% Comp, 300 TD, 115 INT, 7.5 YPA
Manning 65% Comp, 399 TD, 198 INT, 7.6 YPA

Peyton has played half his games in his career in a dome. Sorry but saying Peyton is so far ahead of Brady is just plain wrong.

So after today Flynn will be a 49ner and Ted Ginn will never get hurt again and they will get a wideout who is good.

Holy shit at the new random fans.

Any amazing posts or meltdowns I missed?

I was at a friend's house watching the games with a bunch of my buddies, and my phone is from 1980, so I couldn't check GAF.

Nah, they'll just hang on to Smith. Because holding on to a losing QB with shit stats for 7 years running is how you win, baby!

Ok, I give the rest of the offense the benefit of the doubt. Still doesn't change the fact that the 49ers need to upgrade their WRs (and their QB).

wake me up when brady has a terrible supporting cast (which manning has had since 08 or so).

brady also got to throw to the second best receiver ever for a couple years, which was rather nice. that and bad weather isn't exactly always bad for the pats offense, see: titans game.

Belichick best coach in history... if he wins this.
My friend, please step away from the keyboard before you hurt yourself.

Belichick is probably the best coach of the free agency era (so far), but until he has the longevity of a Landry or Noll, and goes through literal rebuilding (meaning after Brady, developing a new QB) more than once and is able to get back to elite status each time, he isn't in the running for best of all time.

Bill Walsh, Joe Gibbs, Don Shula, and Vince Lombardi have something to say about that.

Gibbs won three titles with some...roughshod teams.
Gibs did it with 3 diff. Qb's including the one and only black QB. Gibbs is the MLK of coaches a visionary and a hero plus he was never involved in a scandal.

Come on man. Brady had shit receivers a few years back. Manning always had something.

Brady is a system quarterback.
tee hee
Peyton outright ran that offense for ten years running in a way no other QB could claim to have. Dude is a magician on the field.

Man that game was painful. Grew up a huge niners fan in the 80's and 90's with Rice and Montana as my favorite players (before pro football came to NC) so it was great to see Candlestick again in the playoffs, although the Giants always seem to win in the biggest moments. The Montana injury game was the worst though.

I'd really like to see the Colts release Petyon, and have him come to the Niners. I think it would be the perfect place for him to finish out his career. Alex did a great job though, so I hate to even suggest that.

I also agree with the sentiment that he has no help at receiver...I was hoping to see something out of Crabtree after last weeks abysmal performance.

Also would like to see them trade Kyle Williams. I don't see how he can return. Even beside the two turnovers that cost them the game (imo) he fumbled the end around/reverse thing they tried.

LeBron James and Tom Brady shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence.

Brady has a history of making receivers better. He hasn't been surrounded by constant Pro Bowlers. Terry Glenn and Branch were the only two he had for some time, we all know Branch's story.

Moss vs. Harrison debate is absurd. The dollar menu at McDonalds had more value than Moss on his way into New England. Harrison was always Manning's constant.

No, the Patriots offensive system has a history of making receivers better.

Peyton is going to end his career on the turf after he reinjures his neck. Neck injuries aren't something you want to mess around with. I'll be surprised if he plays again.

And the 49ers are going to be able to get anything in a Kyle Williams trade.

wayne and harrison were constant pro bowlers (the latter not as much because of manning, sure) because peyton manning was throwing to them. manning has done fine over the last few years with trash at receiver (blair white, austin collie).

moss coming into NE had no value because he was sulking and didn't give a shit. he started caring and made the patriots into an unstoppable juggernaut on offense, it's not that simple (he even made matt cassel look good ffs). manning's oline has also been junk since glenn retired.
