Welli or Future, maybe one of you can clear this up. It seems to me that teams tend not to run slants against y'all, and I think it's because your d-line does such a good job of not getting on the ground.
Yep and we bat down a TON of balls at the line, too because of it. Earlier in the season, the team wasn't doing as good of job of stopping those short passing routes. Especially in the no huddle but with the line getting healthier it's made a difference. You'll notice the Giants pass rush stopping often and getting their hands up to bat those balls up. When you have guys like JPP who has over a 7ft arm span, it has to be part of the defensive game plan.

Peyton is far and away better. Couple of things though, Peyton plays in a dome for half his games, Eli is playing in shitty East Rutherford. Also Eli in the playoffs has been much more successful in less chances than Peyton which sways people's opinions.

Eli has a real defense too. One day I'll know how that feels.

Assuming Eli wins another SB. People don't remember all the other shit. The simplest argument will be that he won 2 and Peyton only got 1. It's not the whole picture of course, but Superbowl wins stick out in most people's minds.

Don't forget the competition

NFC EAST is always a fucking slug-fest, w/e the record NFC EAST match-ups always bring it

AFC South... I mean come the fuck on, Texans, Jaguars and Titans to feast on every year
(Yeah some of them got better here and there but never were "Competition" for PeyPey)

Peyton is better, the only reason why he has one ring is because his team has a shitty defense. Giants are more built around defense.

Too bad for the 49ers. REALLY would have liked to see that matchup with the Pats. Now we get Giants Pats? Meh.

Man, must suck to be Kyle Williams, Billy Cundiff or Lee Evans right about now

Those were a pair of great games, though. Just wish they didn't come down to special teams screw ups like they did. Justin Smith and Patrick Willis seriously impressed me, again.

49ers fans, how much of that D will be around next year? Losing anyone?

Judging by this season, Eli's also had the benefit of this man:

Peyton: Better QB, 1 of only 3 actual NFL players on team, 2-14, has special needs face
Brady: Better coach, worse defense, better overall team, is a lady, 11-5

People were calling for his head in the preseason.:)

I still think letting Smith go for what he wanted was a mistake. He gets the benefit of the doubt because of how amazing Cruz. He should get endless credit for bringing him in, but the entirety of the Giants coaching would tell you they had no clue what they had with Victor. Reese included.

The other things? Letting Boss go was the right thing to do. No way you pay him Witten money. Ridiculous. His signing of Bradshaw for a reasonable contract was the right thing to do. People laughed at him when he said signing Boothe was a priority. Boothe has been one of the better guys on the offensive line. His ability to play Center has saved us at times.

I still question the Baas signing as he's been mediocre to average all season long. His contract is back loaded and I don't think he's a long term answer at the position but fuck we made it to the Super Bowl so who am I to question?

Goldson and Rogers are on 1yr contracts. Rogers wants a long term deal and Goldson is going to want a big contract. I believe everyone else is signed for a few years.

The post game on WFAN here in NY/NJ is some hilarious stuff. Half of it was the Giants beat writer taking shots at the entire Jets organization.

The saltiness is going to be incredible.

It'll be interested to see where Eli's career goes from here, Super Bowl notwithstanding. The biggest unheralded change between when Eli was shaky and throwing picks and now is his pocket awareness. It showed up today as well. The Niners were collapsing the pocket every other play and Eli did about as well as he could under that type of pressure. He made a few questionable throws under pressure but not nearly to the extent he did a couple of years ago, and was able to get a few great plays off even if they ultimately didn't amount to sustained drives.

Is this change for real and sustainable? If the Eli that threw ~5000 yards for the season and cut his INTs to acceptable levels is the one we're going to see from here on out, is there room for even more improvement before age starts to catch up with him?

I don't think Peyton is the QB of the generation. He may be the smartest most talented QB in football history but he'll be forgotten this generation to the likes of Tom Brady. I'm not joking. Each generation has 1 quarterback that stands out. People will remember Tom Brady. Manning's career is pretty much over and out with.

First and foremost well done by Niners and Jim Harbaugh. It was clear last season with Mike Dingleberry that the team had a lot of talent and needed a competent coach to take them where they were supposed to go. The team just needs to grow offensively, which Harbaugh will get done, and they will be a powerhouse for years to come (unfortunately). Took us to the brink of elimination, and frankly we only won due to two Kyle Williams screw ups on special teams. Their's was easily the fiercest pass rush we have seen all year. Congrats Level Nth, Doomsayer, methodman, the rest of Niner-Age and especially my boy FMT. All that said tho:

If Eli throws for 5000 yards next year, I'll be pissed. It means the Giants haven't addressed the running game which should be priority one when this is over. Even if we win the big game, the team is better when its balanced.

Dude, deep down you know these fuckers will pull out a fucking miracle.

Giants should annihate that defense, but knowing my luck....

nah i'm not going to pussy out, mostly cause i don't care who wins.

but the pats won't do shit. They're not the 9ers defense.

I don't even care about karma.

I would pay Rogers and Goldson to ensure a playoff run next year. To be honest Alex Smith has earned another year or two but I really don't want a big multiyear contract for him. Give him another shot next year but I want to see offensive production increase, not just touchdown:int efficiency stats. I want to see actual increases in the numbers next year.

"Sure, we won a Super Bowl, but we can be ever better next year!"

Man, I wish I had those football problems.

Well I'm speaking more about his talent level than expecting him to throw for 5000 yards every season from here. He's not going to approach that number again if the Giants can help it and fix their running game, but knowing that Eli can carry an offense if he needs to is a major positive dynamic for this team in general.

Interesting quote and perspective from Mike Garafolo:

Giants apparently knew they could rattle Kyle Williams. Here's Devin Thomas: “He’s had a lot of concussions. We were just like, ‘We gotta put a hit on that guy. (Tyler) Sash did a great job hitting him early and he looked kind of dazed when he got up. I feel like that made a difference and he coughed it up.”

Well, it hurts. Congrats to the Giants. They played a great game. It wouldn't hurt so much if the blame could be put more on the entire team instead of one person. Never thought we'd miss Ginn that much. Still happy with the season and hope we can build off of this.

GO PATRIOTS!

The hell is wrong with you Niners fans? You've given Smith more years worth of chances than most QBs get in a career. He's total fucking garbage, you can do better and if you had even a competent QB, you'd be in the Super Bowl.

Get rid of him, spend whatever it takes to get one of the veteran FAs and never speak of Alex fucking Smith again.

Heh, first world problems:)

Seriously though, I'm just sayin'. Eli has maintained the level of play he has despite so many things this year. I think you play with fire when ask for it to be done over and over again year in and year out. The offensive line needs to be addressed and the Giants need to get back to running the football with more consistency. We have the receivers, we have the QB. We get a running game and we put a scary fucking offense on the field.

People are morons if they were going after him about Steve Smith. One of the few GMs that seems to understand that depth and talent on the line will cover up a lot of issues on the backside on defense. Basically he's my mancrush.

Now, he's been iffy with the o-line and secondary (namely Antrelle), to be fair. At least from an outsider's perspective.

Eh, Rolle started out shaky but he's been a good signing so far I think.
