I will again support the Giants and their fans against The Dark Lords.

And kudos to the refs this week. Besides some shaky holding calls/no calls in the SF/NYG game, I really didn't see any partisanship

I can't decide who I want to win.

On one hand, Still pissed at the Pats for beating us in 06 and 07.

On the other, Eli is still the biggest bitch alive.

Dilema. :jnc

sounds like a butthurt green bay op title to me. this matchup is actually a pretty good one.

also giants don't get a check next to offense? lol

If you actually knew football, read: you don't, you'd know the Pats beat the Chargers in the playoffs in '06 and '07. Eli also refused to go to the Chargers as well.
Also, the Chargers avatar might give it away hahah, but I'll give him the BOTD and assume it wasn't showing up for him.

Yeah this isn't baseball. I have no problem with a regional Super Bowl. It's not like PITT/GB was a transcontinental affair or didn't also feature a couple of teams with loads of bandwagon fans

Might be a good match-up but it is nothing new. Rematch of the 07 Super Bowl and a rematch of a game from this year both the Giants won. This is the best outcome for ratings that Goodwell would get.

I thought he said 06-07, not 06 and 07, so that could have been Jets or Chargers.

Anyways, yeah, I had just started following football around that time. I also don't know much about who won/lost before then except what I've seen in sport documentaries or highlight reels.

Everyone's "Awful matchup" comments feel so good.

I always thought the NFC would beat the AFC in the Super Bowl whoever it was and it'll happen again.

DO IT, GIANTS.

Also, Eli and JPP are pulling out of the Pro Bowl. How about not having the Pro Bowl no one is going to watch anyway before the SB?

No one watches the Pro Bowl afterwards they just want something in the bye week because the 300 random people might watch.

Another fan pointed this out and never realized it, shit man the other AFC teams need to step up...

AFC Superbowl participants....

2004 - Pats
2005 - Steelers
2006 - Colts
2007 - Pats
2008 - Steelers
2009 - Colts
2010 - Steelers
2011 - Pats

Colts 2012 SB champs! Yeah!

Most outsiders still have the notion that this is a New York vs. Boston rivalry. Patriots and Giants share the same fanbase for the most part. Growing up it has always been weird.

...but...but if Luck wins then Peyton was just a system quarterback!

It's funny, four years ago I was more in stunned disbelief that the Giants were in the super bowl, not even mentioning the possibility of them actually winning. Maybe this will change in the course of the next two weeks, but this matchup almost feels business-as-usual to me.

Giants are the only NFC to have repeat appearances in 11 years

2011 - Giants
2010 - Packers
2009 - Saints
2008 - Cardinals
2007 - Giants
2006 - Bears
2005 - Seahawks
2004 - Eagles
2003 - Panthers
2002 - Bucs
2001 - Rams

Don't do that! Check the 2009 SB thread when Indy fans experienced the same hubris.

2000 Giants...... so that would be 3 times in 12 season....

Basically you are a Patriots fan. No wonder you're always so salty. See my last post, Giants are just part of the extended family.

From what I understand there's just a lot more regional overlap then for something like Yankees-Red Sox for example (see: Connecticut) but they are still distinct fanbases outside of that overlap.

Well it is finally time for revenge, not only for extraordinarily dedicated quarterback Tom Brady but head coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick. The Patriots, winning eighteen games only to lose it all in the Super Bowl to the Giants, now have their chance to claim their revenge in a game that matters more than ever.

Here is to Tom Brady, best quarterback of all time (in consideration to his 3 rings, wins, 2007 season, modeling career, 20$ million dollar mansion, fucking multiple actresses and super models and having kids with a couple in between). And Bill Belichick, best head coach of all time (salary cap-era plus he is cooler). And lets not forget owner Robert Kraft, considered one of the best owners in history, making it to his fifth championship this year despite the passing away of his wife.

No, not just regional. CT is the regional overlap, but growing up this was Giants town. Have a ton of hybrids currently.

Jets are a different story.

No no, I don't mean to say that the Giants will definitely win, just that it's not "oh my god the Giants actually got to the Super Bowl I can't believe it" and more "Good, the Giants managed to get to the Super Bowl, I hope they win it again."

Actually, I think I see how this can work. After all, with how terrible the Patriots were before 2001 the Giants would be the logical bandwagon choice to grow up with in that area.

2001 is too far, when the trio (Kraft/Parcells/Bledsoe) came everything changed around here. There was always a loyal fanbase for the Patriots. The prior years probably comparable to the Islanders maybe in the Boston sports structure.

Hence why Bledsoe > Brady.

No one outside of NE (and for some strange inexplicable reason some socal gaffers) want the Pats to win.
That's weird... I thought I was the only one out of socal repping the patriots... but whatever. As much as I want them to win, I cant watch the Superbowl.

So three of the 5 best QBs in the league have dominated their conference? I'm shocked!

Really though, that stat is the exact reason we spend so much time arguing about who is elite. You have to talk yourself into the bonafides of your QB or you are resigning yourself to years or futility

Only reason I'll be watching is if I can find a party with an open bar or most of the commercials don't end up online in the lead up to the game. Only thing that would make me happy about this game is if the Giants won by 21+.

Actually yeah I forget that the Bledsoe era wasn't actually all that bad.

What's with the thread title? This isn't Alabama/LSU. I'm sure Belichek and Brady still hold a strong grudge against the G-men for wrecking their perfect season and want revenge just as much as the title. Meanwhile Eli, long in the shadow of big bro Peyton, goes for his second ring to become the best Manning in the only category that counts. Not to mention against a rival everyone loves to hate. I, for one, wanted this rematch.
