and the day of the Greenbay game -

LG11 always has informative posts as well. And never gets into pissing matches. I admire the fuck out of both of them!

Best poster: Squicken. He is knowledgable as fuck and good natured.

Yeah, for all the shit he's given for jumping teams, I'm continuously surprised by how much he knows about almost every team in the league.

Thanks bros. I don't know if I'm being trolled or not but I'll take the compliments! And I deserve the team switching jokes. I'd mock me too.

Actually heard an interesting thing on Simmons' podcast, which again reminded me of the Houston football futility. He said the reason the AFC seems so weak is that it was Houston's year, but the Schaub injury washed them out. They were the most talented and deepest team, but took an injury where you just can't have one (unless you have Kolb2)

I remember arguing this in college with people about all those Buffalo teams that made the SB. Two of those years it should have been the Oilers, but b/c Tebow hates Houston football fans, it never was.

Goddamn Freeman. Now that Kelly has declined the Bucs are going to re-interview Sherman. I was hoping he'd come for the OC job in Cleveland.

I've been fascinated with a long time with how Europeans develop and follow American sports. Do y'all find it easy to watch games? What news outlets do you read - American-based sources or attempted local reporting like The Guardian in the UK? Are there bars in the area that stream games?

I grew up in the UK, and only when Channel 4 started broadcasting games (I think in 1984) did I start watching games (no cable or satellite then, only 4 TV channels). They used to show two games, mainly highlights, and the occasional live game. Superbowl was always a late night - used to stay up all night with a game starting at 3am, drinking and eating.

I followed the Houston Oilers until they moved (love Warren Moon), and once they changed cities I stopped following them, but still watched all the games I could see.

Now I live in New Hampshire, seeing so many games (and supporting the Pats) has been a lot of fun. Still staggered at how complex it is, and my daughter is starting to get into it to.

The thing I really don't like about American sports is the whole franchise system. In the UK, a soccer club can go from 8 divisions down, and if they are good enough, play with the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd every season. Why can't a local team (e.g. single-A Lowell Spinners in baseball) if they are good enough get promotion to AA, and eventually the major leagues - the fact that there US sports aren't geared up like this baffles me.

Something like the giant-killing of the 3rd round of the FA Cup is amazing, and is never seen over here - could you imagine the Spinners with a chance against the Yankees.

Very easy. Between NFL Gamepass and ESPN America I have been following up to 5 games simultaneously (including Red Zone) for the past few years.
Before that it was by means of German pay TV Premiere/DF1. Since at least 1998 I have had access to at least one live televised game per time slot.
Prior to that there were a few years when the two afternoon games were even transmitted on free TV DSF.

Local reporting is pretty much non existent aside from the Superbowl, and I don't read any newspapers anyway, so it has been ESPN.com and SI.com for a long time for me.

Bars? Well, I believe the local (Vienna) TGI Fridays and Marriott Champions Sports Bar televise regular season games, but I'm not sure about that. However, both do celebrate the Superbowl.
But I haven't attended that and don't plan on either.

The worst part is the time zones.

Another thing is that on German TV they only show the SB, for the rest of the season you have to find something else. The Game Pass on NFL.com is pretty great, but also almost prohibitively expensive (around $400/season, I think. Could be wrong though.)

Agree about the time zones. But still, speaking as a student it's fairly manageable.
I do think that you should have easy if not necessarily cheap access to ESPN America.
Gamepass however is a bit less than you think. It's been 280 USD for the regular season.

I don't know why these Leagues are so hesitant to allow individuals from foreign lands to subscribe cheap to follow a team or a number of teams. I believe the NBA's package is rather inexpensive for the amazing streaming quality and multiplatform use. MLB isn't bad either.

Are you guys still learning about the sport, or do you consider yourselves committed fans at this point?

Well, while the NFL might have been a bit late with their streaming service and while it also was a rather rocky first few years, it is quite easy and convenient to watch NFL Gamepass. And even as a customer I do understand the pricing, because quite frankly, nobody who isn't already a fan would even think about watching NFL streams. So aside from offering them for free and promoting the game like crazy I don't see any reason from the NFL's perspective to lower the prices. But you can already just subscribe for individual teams or days.

After 15+ years of following the NFL I'd like to think of myself as a committed fan. Then again I'd think most every European NFL Fan would consider himself fairly committed.
But speaking about knowledge, I think I am as knowledgeable as I could become by only watching/reading about the NFL (and playing Front Office Football...).

So NFLN is replaying the last NYG/NE superbowl. It reminds me how good Jacobs and bradshaw used to be compared their output now. They were punishing backs back in the day

Looks like it is the reincarnation of the old TBBBB, which was garbage as well. No offense to the message board you visit, but I judge the quality of a board by how people post in it's off-topic area. If I cant stand them in the off-topic area then why would i want to even talk football with them? And by that metric bucschat, pewterreport, and the old TBBBB were really terrible forums.

It doesn't matter where you live.

It doesn't matter what jerseys you hang in your closet.

It doesn't matter if your team was out of contention by week 7 or week 17.

For two weeks, we are all Giants fans. For two weeks, we will be united against cheating, the tears of golems, torn-up hoodies, and assholes that drop the letter "r" from everything they fucking say.

For two weeks, we stand against the Patriots. I call on you, GAFfers, to cast aside your hatred for one another for just a moment in time. The Rapistberger jokes, the cracks at Brett Favre's tiny schlong, the mindless frothing from the mouths of Iggles fans... All must cease.

Our petty squabbles mean nothing now. There is but one enemy, and his name is Tom Brady.

United we stand, divided we fall. Never forget.

If I become an alcoholic after the SB, you will be responsible...

Bradshaw still is. He doesn't have great vision but....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TULbChC06qU&feature=related

He still runs like a little truck.

The Giants in 2007 also had one of the best offensive lines in the league.

I would say Bradshaw hasn't dropped off near as much as Jacobs. I remember watching Cowboy games where the defense didn't want to even tackle him he was such a beast. Now I see him fall down after initial contact so easy.

Running backs have such short lifespans in the league

Yep. The most interesting part about it is that Bradshaw is the more injured of the two. The guy has broken down feet and fucked up knees. He'll no doubt have surgery in the offseason for the bone issues in his foot (again). He's younger than Jacobs but still can be more productive and a tougher runner.

Jacobs can still flash though. You watch him during the Falcons wild card game and you'd think you were watching the Jacobs defenses use to fear in '07/'08. I like the tone he can set when he runs like that.

You have my axe. Beelzebrady and the Dark Lord Belicheat must be defeated.

Post of the forever!!!!

Nah, he got bigheaded, over-confident, cocky. Started talking shit about how we wasn't with him shooting in the gym or something.

Squicken is the youngry up and comer.

Hahaha :(

For those of you who enjoy my contributions, thanks for the kind words. I know i irritate people at times but I can't help it. I've watched way too much football over the years, but I really started to get into the strategy around '02, when Madden finally went online. In order to stop losing I had to go digging for info.

On unrelated note, doesn't the NFL offer paid streams for those outside NA? I seem to recall reading about it before the start of the '10 season. Memory might be off. I think more Europeans would be into the sport if it received proper coverage.

While on vacation a couple of years ago I chatted with a cousins cousin who was fascinated by the sport and wanted to learn more about but was intimidated. Lived in the UK if I recall. When my cousin and her husband stayed with me a couple of years ago I got him into football for a couple of weeks.

We watched a lot of bowl games. "This Tebow guy must be pretty good, they keep talking about him.". Wish he were here to witness the current circus.

Yeah, it does suck.
And that's only judging by the Team Discussion section.

Nonsense.

I love your insight into play breakdowns, formations etc. Especially enjoy your stuff on college player evaluation/thoughts as I don't watch a ton of college football. Thanks!

EDIT: Forgot what a monster Tuck was in this game.

Initial ticket sales info for the Super Bowl...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/...0.html?ref=business&ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009

Just 7 percent of Super Bowl ticket purchases on the prominent selling exchange StubHub came from Massachusetts residents, the site told The Huffington Post. Monday was the first day of sales after the Super Bowl participants were decided Sunday in the AFC and NFC title games. The median sale was $2,800 a ticket.

Maybe it's the economy. Maybe Massachusetts residents don't relish the idea of visiting Indianapolis in the dead of winter -- or at any time of year. Or perhaps there's a bigger reason: "It's a little old hat for Patriots fans," StubHub spokeswoman Joellen Ferrer said.

The Patriots have appeared in four Super Bowls since 2002, winning three. The Giants are no stranger to the big game either, having appeared twice since 2001 and winning once against the heavily favored Patriots in 2008.

The rematch angle isn't catching fire yet in a large part of New England. Less than 2.5 percent of the tickets sold came from residents in Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. (Connecticut has loyalists on both sides.) New Yorkers, meanwhile, grabbed 13 percent of the tickets. New Jersey residents, where the Giants actually play, bought 8 percent. It's early, but the results seem surprising for a Patriots team that is known for its rabid following.

It'll be interesting to see how the crowd breaks down for the big game. Would love to have a sea of Giants jerseys out there.

Natives bored with the Pats confirmed. Celebrations relegated to facebook posts when the local news reports on a win.

Future I love and respect you like a brother but I disagree with your opinion. I think that Bradshaw can make something out of nothing, but if you call his number 10 times, 7/10 he won't follow the designed play. He is like watching the offensive equivalent of LaVar "Freestyle" Arrington. The guy is consistently cutting out and away from his lead blocker or away from where the hole is created. It looks great on TV, yeah, but he's being stupid. If you go back to a number of games where Bradshaw and Jacobs played together and got the roughly same amount of carries, I believe that most times Jacobs has a higher YPC.

I know i irritate people at times but I can't help it.

Fuck outta here bro, you know I love ya.
