NFL Super Bowl XLVI |OT| Matchup More Unwanted Than Madonna's Halftime Show

I was driving home tonight and Doug Gottlieb was on ESPN radio. Usually I don't listen to this but my coworker was giving me a hard time about Manning coming to Denver and shipping Tebow off. He thinks I'm crazy because I wouldn't want to risk bringing Manning in.

The teams listed on this show were Denver and San Francisco. Personally, I think it's a bit crazy to even talk about Manning coming to Denver. Manning would demand significant financial obligations which I don't think Denver should dedicate. I would rather build a good overall team, and hope that either Tebow improves or we land a guy in the draft that can do the job.

Am I crazy to think that Manning is a risk, and would hurt the team rather than giving us a chance to build something better long term? If we commit to him and he gets hurt, we are further behind then we would be without him.

because of free agency , salary cap and the structure of draft. to win a super bowl window for teams are ver small (unless you have a HOF QB). If a team has a chance to win SB now, then mortgage it's future is well worth it. if getting manning will get 9ers SB. then it's worth mortgaging it's future for next four to five years.

Some of the places I've heard Manning mentioned with are absurd. People just throw every team that doesn't have a QB in to the mix. For instance, he cannot run Mike Shanahan's offense. The QB needs to play under center and be able to boot and sell play action well. Obviously Shanny could adapt, but why do that when they have a top 10 pick and a chance to get their QB of the future?

SF would seem to make the most sense besides MIA, but again, I think Harbaugh wants more mobility from his QB

edit: Besides the Super Bowl win, are there any playoff games where Peyton played poorly but his team won? I was discussing this with a friend, and we couldn't think of anything, but neither of us too familiar with Colts' playoff history. Brady and Ben got to fall back on great Ds for parts of their careers. But it seemed that with Manning, he either carried his team in the playoffs or they lost

Ray Lewis can suck a dick and fuck off to hell and back but if he doesn't become a LB coach or DC after his playing days that's a waste.

That's part of what I am thinking. Denver is still a ways off from be in contention to even reaching the SB, much less the AFC Championship. I don't think Manning is going to be the magic bullet that he was for the Colts. Our defense is decent, but still has a long ways to go. The more resources we dedicate to Manning the less we can move to defense or locking up younger players to build off of. It's just seems like a reach at this point, imo.

As far as SF, I know less about their team so I can't really make a judgment. Smith took them to the NFC Championship on a decent year, so I'm not sure how it would go over.

Good points. Don't get me wrong, I think Manning is/was great. I just don't see us dumping resources his way for a shot that might not exist. I like the idea of being a team that can build through the draft and keep our young talent in order for them to grow. It hasn't been that way in the recent past, and Elway seems to understand this, so a move towards Manning would be counter-intuitive in my opinion.

I was laughing when no one could get the longest run from scrimmage in SB history. I know you'd have gotten that one.

Also, it's ridiculous how much useless sports trivia I have stored in the old noggin'. Frankly I can't wait until after the SB so I can stop checking BBI and GAF so often and actually get work done.

I wonder who's kid he is eyeballing at this press conference.

I bet Gronk is a total Dudebro.

To me a dudebro is a frat type of self centered jerk. Gronk seems more like a goofy likable type of guy.

Do it and don't look back.

When it involves Peyton fucking Manning you do whatever you can to lock him up. Seriously, I like Alex and what he did this year but if this is his ceiling we can do much better.

i think with alex we will be in every game we play, but we will rarely put a team away before the 4th quarter. that's just the nature of our offense with him. i'm not saying i dislike that, because it means we can beat any team in the nfl. but we also need a few things to happen to beat top teams, and that includes getting turnovers. when that doesn't happen, we get into dog fights that we can't win (NYG, bal).

alex smith will never be responsible for losing a game and only rarely will he win a game for you. with peyton.... a healthy peyton with VD, delaine, gore, crabby.... we would have a dangerous offense

I would argue that you guys will be consistent playoff contenders. Denver is shaky at best, and for all we know our season may have been a flash in the pan. So a move towards him makes sense for SF. On the other hand, if you commit to him and he goes down then the reset button gets pushed and you have to go out again and retool.

Yup Fast Willie Parker is the answer. Heck, let's keep this going. Not going to use any of the Francessa questions since I just posted the answers. Let's go with an easy one - keep it centered around the Super Bowl!

Who was the last QB to make it to the Super Bowl with 2 different teams!?

So wait, let me get this straight.

He thinks because he uses the avatar on another forum that he has the right to use it on this one?

If that's the case, fucking lol. What an idiot.
