[Anime] Your "Controversial" Opinions

Elfen Lied isn't a masterpiece. But it was extremely entertaining and at least made the viewer think. It also has Nyuu and anything with Nyuu in it is fuckawesome by default. This is not up for debate.

Elfen Lied is the Loose Change of anime. The first time you watch it, it makes you think and you really like it. Once you stop and think about it for a little bit, you realize how stupid it was.

Yu gi oh is something that can only be truly enjoyed in a short manga episode serialized every week. Completely falls apart as an anime where time is constantly being stretched to build tension and slow it down.

Also early psychopath Yami is best Yami, meaning the series was at its best before becoming "Duel Monsters" centric.

I liked Death Note, also. Again manga is the way to go, but the anime has some goddamn awesome music. It is also dumb in some the best ways possible (POTATO CHIP) and some really bad ways (yaoi episode). I believe if they adapted it right (lol) it would be the biggest thing on American TV, at least the first season or two which covers the first part.

EDIT: Elfen Lied was only good when that cousin girl got off because she was rubbing against that dude's leg. God bless the anime cable network/anime on demand. When it got into the loli porn and guro, shit was too fucked up for me.

Apparently this is controversial:

I didn't hate Howl's Moving Castle.

There, I said it.

A bad Miyazaki movie is still a pretty good movie.
Oh. I didn't know my opinion was controversial:

Howl's Moving Castle is one of the better Miyazaki movies, and generally a fantastic film.

Yeah I would say its one of the best shows made in the last decade too if only for the fact that not a whole lot of anime accomplish the things that Wolf's Rain did right.
Its the combination of high concept, tight execution, narrative integrity, lush artwork and soundscapes. I don't think a show like WR could ever see the daylight in today's market.

I was joking about Fractale.
And Elfen Lied.
And Death Note.
I thought that was the common opinion for people who actually watched it?
Dear god I hope not.
.

About what?
Elfen Lied straight up hammers the audience over the head with answers to any questions it might have raised. Sexual abuse is wrong (please enjoy these T&A shots!). Violence is wrong (here's some gore). It's wrong to discriminate! Most of all, it's really, really bad to kill dogs.
Deep stuff, mang.
I don't think Nyuu is at all something cool. She's a bimbo anime girl character who just feels creepy. It's like OH PROTECT THIS CUTE STUPID GIRL who also is a psycho murder. I don't find female characters like that to be good. I find them creepy and pandering.

No, give me the Major from SAC, Misato from Eva, or just any female character that doesn't make me feel creepy.
Nyuu is intensely creepy. The pants-wetting thing makes for serious 'what the fuck am I watching' material.

Full Metal Panic is terrible. Both seasons.

Fumoffu is actually funny and the only good thing about FMP.
This should not be a controversial opinion.
It really is amazing that Fumoffu came from FMP though.

I'm saying it sucked in comparison to the rest. They made up rules for pretty mcuh every duel as they went and half the time it wasn't even the same game from duel to duel. Outside of Joey and Kaibia all the characters could have been replaced with themselves from the bringing of the show and nothing would have changed. I get people didn't like GX but at least it followed somewhat coherent rules of the game. 5Ds is the definitive show of them all because it has the best story, an upgrade Kaibia, side characters that were actually more useful than Hur Dur use friendship, and Stardust Dragon > Everything.

I like the filler episodes and filler stories of Dragon Ball more than the actual normal episodes.
I enjoyed Dragon Ball GT.

I remember watching a bit of it early on. Seemed pretty Dragon Ball Z like. Of course, I don't remember much of it, so I could be widely off base here.

Paprika sucked, paranoia agent as a whole isn't that good(thought it starts off nice). I don't want to say that Satoshi kon was overrated or wack, I do remember liking Tokyo Godfathers. Maybe I should see more of his work.

And make sure you forgive a girl when you find out she
brutally(and comically) murdered your family in front of your eyes, traumatizing you for life.

After watching the first episode I thought it was pretty stupid, couldn't go back to it, looks like I made the right decision.

Watch Millennium Actress and Perfect Blue before making any rash decisions.

I WAS gonna say that more than 50% of Naruto, DBZ, and Bleach (and I'm being VERY generous here) was utter, useless crap, but I realize that may hardly constitute being "controversial". So let's try something else...

Ooh, I know. I dislike Samurai Champloo's soundtrack.

How's that?

Monster dragged on too long and I felt that the ride was much better than the conclusion. I feel the mastermind stuff in some of these kind of stories are just really offputting, what makes it worse is when they are so demure, so lacking in anything other than their being very cunning for whatever reason.

I need to watch milennium actress. I do remember watching perfect blue, I didn't hate it, but I think it was slightly overrated. I think it would have stuck with me more had I watched it back in 98-99 or whenever it came out.

I haven't watched YGO in something like 9 years but this is motherfucking truth about the original making tons of shit up. I was really into YGO from 2001 to 2003 (age 11-13) and even though I used to watch the cartoons every Saturday morning without fail, it always pissed me off how they made rules up on the spot just for the "dramatic" effect. I loved the card game back then and wanted them to follow the damn rules!

haha

I didn't say she is cool. I said she is AWESOME.

Oh yeah, how could I forget that one! I guess she was just too adorable, nyuu~
I guess Elfen Lied really is 'extremely entertaining' when taken as a curiosity piece. It's like watching a show about humans that was written and directed by aliens.

You're a monster.

Millenium Actress is my favorite work by Satoshi Kon, and one of my favorite movies, period.

I'm definitely gonna give Millenium Actress a watch soon.

Your opinion is wrong. I'm not saying that I think you have a bad opinion, it is 100% wrong and you need to stop.

I liked Elfen Lied BECAUSE it was fucked up. It was a fun watch, despite a ton of disturbing and wrong elements. I watch shows to be entertained, not to really learn anything from them. Elfen Lied did its job for me.
As for loli porn, where the hell was there ANY porn in the show? There was nudity. Holy shit.

Elfen Lied has amazing atmosphere which only makes the themes addressed more effective. There was a sense of subtlety to it that was at odds with the completely unsubtle nature of the show and I thought it converged perfectly.

But hey, I've said my part already.

Ok, got another one: Animation is one of the least important parts of what makes a show good. Plot, characters, setting, music, voice acting and the characters designs are all much more important than actual animation.

Yu-Gi-Oh! "card games on motorcycles" 5Ds is the best one of the series and the original(the first that aired in the US) sucked pretty hard in comparison to all the others.

My 4th grade YGO fangirl in me is very sad right now :( How could you not like the original? Hoowwwww? ;-;

Anyway on the side note, I didn't like DRRR that much. It was okay for something to watch but I definitely did not understand the huge fanbase :/

You're a bad person and you should feel bad.

So why watch anime?

For stories :) of course, it's nice when a show delivers also in animation departament, but there have been plenty great shows with subpart animations, while I can't think of even one good show with great animation, but crappy story and characters.

I HATE the vast majority of eva fans. They have turned a series that I really didn't care for into one that I loathe. Their holier than thou attitute is so damn infuriating that there's a good chance I will get into an argument with them on the subject instead of ignoring it.

Mostly agree with this. And I ENJOY Evangelion. Must have been all that time listening to kids in college praising it as "the Greatest Visual experience of my life".

Digimon Adventure: Bokura no War Game is far more concise* and has better action than Summer Wars without showing a jarring dissonance between the real world stuff and the internet stuff.

*I'll admit this is cheating because the Digimon movie assumes you already know the characters.

Plus Summer Wars lacks Omnimon, its still good if you liked War Games though.

I re-watched the Digimon movie recently, and I have to say I like Summer Wars a lot better. Watching the Digimon movie was a nostalgia ruining experience...
