Okay, so
+ Maru; Wan
- the second someone gets in a spaceship/mech/whatever and there's some sort of technobabble, my eyes roll into the back of my head.

If only these two could grab eyebrows-chan from space pirates and go make an anime about eating cake, or one where they all fall in harem love with a neutered, non-threatening male lead that I can self-insert over, we'd be in business.

How does it compare to Strike Witches?!

I'm so in love with the show right now. Sadly, we have not more true Slice of Life animes.

Man, now I'm wondering if my unintentional drop of Guilty Crown was a good idea after all. After episode 11 I just kinda forgot about keeping up with the series. On the other hand, I'm a completionist to the absolute extreme. What do AnimeGAF?

Do what I do, just keep up with it via screenshots and reaction posts.

Guilty Crown - 15

Er... was that supposed to be an emotional moment or something? Because all I could think of was
-1 harem member.

I think it's time we put all this Anohana bashing to bed. I mean, the wars over, and the good people won in the end.

What war? I never cared about no stinkin war! I didn't care for either side anyhow.

The only winning move was not to play
or just default to Team Denpa

I'm still gonna check Gyo out but CG landsharks is :(

I won't. Seeing CG landsharks hurts my soul but a bigger problem I had was that in the trailer they seemed to playing it up like some kind of 80's horror movie. You know, the one where the 'teens' get ambushed by the monster just as soon as 'sex' is involved. It just looked dumb.

I don't know about that. Blood C changed my life and will go down as one of the most interesting TV anime's of all time.
>>implying Blood-C's entertainment value didn't come out from its trainwreck status
So, two guys decided to learn the dance moves to the Kill Me Baby ED.

They're good.
Why couldn't it be two cute Japanese girls? Besides the fact that they are not synchronised at all.

The only Mari Okada show I watched that I actually liked was the one where she did nothing at all.

Or maybe that's actually all of them, I can't know for sure.

He specifically said "trainwreck" so you're not countering his point at all. There's no better term to describe Blood-C
>>implying Blood-C's entertainment value didn't come out from its trainwreck status
Blood C is not a trainwreck. The writers clearly planned for the show to go a certain manner from the outset, they weren't just making stuff up as they went along for extra shock value.

A trainwreck is the kind of thing which lots of people watch because it's hard to turn your head away - but Blood C opened with a series of boring, formulaic episodes which is exactly where most people dropped it. Very few people seemed to get to the end of the show, and I know that many people here wouldn't have picked it up without duckroll bringing it up.

I know that practically no-one watched that show because there were very, very few blog posts about the ending. If you've seen how the show ends, you'd have to write something fairly substantial about it, so I can tell many people never even got that far.

So the trainwreck was deliberate. No arguments there at all. Still doesn't change things!

Not sure if you’re trying stealth sell this?

Its animu tweens getting eaten by fucken land sharks, I don't know that sounds like it could be fun (in a stupid way).

Anime cg is only good for two things
1. To laugh at how bad it is
2. To horrify the viewer cause of how bad it is.

So it could work in a comedy horror anime.

We did win. Im surprised that you can so readily admit that.

After you disagreed with me about that one thing that one time once, I can't say that you're good people.

Although we agree 100% (scarily) about very specific pieces of camera work in very particular episodes of Cowboy Bebop.

Thermae Romae 1-6

I enjoyed this. Good humour and Lucius adventures were very entertaining. Plus it didn't overstay its welcome like other comedy anime.

for the most part yeah but with terrible signatures added.
And I thought you were one of the cool people.

The technobabble has really been restrained in the show though. There's hardly any, if any, at all actually if you ask me.

She had an even more perverted scene in mind for Aquarion Evol apparently.

I didn't post it at the time, but it struck me while watching episode 4 that Nisemonogatari has had particularly awful pacing thus far. It's more formless and shapeless than Bake (which at least had arcs with some sense of structure) by far but I would never call it a slice-of-life show since there's no life to be found. The laziness in directing technique (zoom up body! cut to eyeball! black screen!) which has been present all along is finally getting to me. It's a radio "drama" with no drama to speak of.

That, and the loli fanservice has reached intolerable levels, if it wasn't already there with the added animation in episode 9 of Bake.

I don't know, I think I'll drop it.

I think it's partly the fault of the arc itself being longer than the arcs in Bakemonogatari but it largely comes down to the production quality, by which I am of course referring to the incredibly lazy and sloppy direction.

I was originally tempted to wholly blame the structure and content of the arc itself rather than the direction but episode 3 proved that you can have a fun, snappy and intelligent episode of Nisemonogatari if you happen to be actually give a crap about making it flow properly. Sadly episode 4 was poorly produced in nearly every respect.

Wait, so is
the other world some imaginary place Kuroi came up with with enemies representing problematic people in her life, or is it just a completely different reality with alternate versions of other people?

Anyway, I liked the chain segment and dynamic camera work.

Only Yesterday

The nostalgia! The art style used for the flashback scenes was extraordinarily pretty and captured that faded yet powerfully poignant quality of childhood memories. Takahata's attention to the details of everyday life and sensitivity to the fanciful mind of a young girl that I noticed in Anne of Green Gables is on great display here. The scenes with Taeko's father were particularly strong.
The whole scene surrounding his slap showed a subtle understanding of family dynamics, particularly the complexity of emotion on his face after he realizes he has hurt the child who he loves but doesn't know how to love.

I found the present-day scenes less compelling at first. I'm not particularly interested in farming, and the discussions about and depictions of it bored me a little. However, those scenes did build into an amazingly effective yet understated emotional climax. Taeko had great chemistry with Toshio which built over the course of the narrative. During the final car ride at night, those brief moments when Toshio reached out his hand towards Taeko's only to withdraw it and shift gears - it's that kind of detail that goes a long way in portraying a believable human relationship. I appreciated that the film acknowledged through Taeko's inner conflict and resolution that "coming-of-age" doesn't stop when you turn 18 or 21, but is a process that you continually have to struggle with even after you have entered the adult world.

In short, this film is a mature drama that can resonate with anyone who has lived and loved.

You should really just watch the OVA.
