I see that VGP has listed an MLB The Show Dual pack - get the Vita and PS3 version. At US$98 it seems like a pack they may have created themselves as that would be standard pricing wouldn't it? Still it would be good to see that these may be pushed going forward. I for one would love to have Franchise mode available 24/7. They are saying available on 6th March.

Is this a pack videogames plus is doing? Looks like a zero discount. Pass.

Before you do, PM me and let me know how many Game stop space bucks they offer you for it.. I might take it off your hands, since I don't want to pay full price for one of those.

GameStop gives you $100 for a 3DS twoards a vita.

I craiglisted mine for $150 and had 3 buyers contact me within the work day.

I want a pair of headphones I can use on the PS3 and the Vita - is that possible? I want something that can chat on the PS3 (I assume chat on the Vita would be done through the mic) but I don' want extra cords laying around when playing the Vita

Any opinions or suggestions?

It seems like there is simply no hype for this system in the US. I'm afraid to see the initial sales figures....lol. I want to buy the system but my gut says wait.

Huge missed opportunity with The Show. They should be promoting the hell out of an $80 bundle. Both versions should come packed in the same case and some type of marketing lingo should be on the box, like: Dual Combo Ultra Mega Limited Edition Pack. And the case should be the size of a PS3, but blue like the Vita cases.

As someone that's looking forward to getting the system, I have no idea how non-enthusiasts would even be aware of its existence. The only advertising I've seen for it has been in the form of Taco Bell commercials. All of the game mascots jumping around on a table is probably confusing to people as well. Are any of those characters broadly recognizable (maybe Sackboy)?

I've seen nothing in the UK yet. A few points of sale and the odd demo unit, but no posters, no adverts on the TV or owt.

I thought Sony were spending big on marketing in Europe for Vita?

Yeah, I'm seriously doubting it will even reach 3DS's first month sales. There's just no marketing at all.

what do you think the chances are of the EU store being updated at the same time as the US one (i.e next week)?

One thing that was updated on the EU PSN was the 'What's new' section, it now shows Vita promotion. I don't expect anything to come up next week though.

I'm 100% sure of that, Sony simply sucks at marketing in the west. The whole thing is a big PR disaster IMO.

Yeah, Sony may be dropping the ball here.

Game/Gamestation/HMV in my area are all promoting it a lot. All got big posters in the windows and stuff.

But yeah i thought it was supposed to be their biggest campaign ever or something. Weird.

I'm currently the manager of a large retail store of games/films (only for two more weeks though!)

Seen fuck all advertising, only a bit of support from Sony, and all the customers I've talked to either don't know about it or don't care.

Gahhh. Sony need to get their act together here in the UK. Sending each game/gamestation a console is good, but not if the general public don't even know what it is, and why they should go look at it!

Yeah, if Sony can't even get this right, how do they expect third parties to? They should be playing leader now, yet they're behind at times when it comes to online (hello ModNation!) and at visuals (first party games at sub-native res is unacceptable to me).

I expect software sales to be abysmal until Sony gets its act together. No one wants a mini-PS3 if it can't interact with the actual PS3 through cross-multiplayer, transferring save data, and most importantly, some discount for double dipping. Just look at the sales for LBP, Motorstorm, ModNation, or any of the MLB titles for PSP.

If these issues had been addressed in a reasonable manner, I'd have pre-ordered MGS:HD, Rayman Origins, and UMVC3 for Vita by now. Instead, those publishers are only getting the $20 I spent or will spend to buy them used on PS3.

The only commercial I've seen of the Vita is the Taco Bell one.

What about a commercial specifically for the Vita, Sony? Maybe advertise it's features and games and not a damn bootleg gordita.

Vita has bluetooth so maybe you can buy bluetooth headphones? I'm assuming Vita connects with bluetooth headsets the same way the PS3 does. I wonder if there is an option of outputting audio via the headphones.

It's possible they plan to start their campaign a couple of weeks before the 22nd, which is tomorrow.

Or even during and after the launch. I remember the GTA games never had any tv hype until like the week or two before and then tons of it after it's out. I don't think they care about pre-orders; they probably want people to know about it when they can actually go buy it.

Here you guys are asking yourself why there hasn't been any advertisement for the system but what about little things like PR statements or basic information like PSN prices? I feel like Sony has been silent about the thing the whole time, the PR is as bad as it was with Motorstorm Apocalypse.

Nintendo at least had all those PR clips and ads going around with the 3DS launch (and it still did badly)

Perhaps Sony is committed to quietly launching the PSVita to enthusiasts on the 15th of February, so perhaps expect a harder push past that date?

That too. Very weird.

I think they aren't mentioning PSN prices because they don't want to hurt retail preorders of games.

How they haven't made some kind of Kevin Butler ad for the launch is pretty mind boggling.

Did anybody else see Kevin Butler in the Bridgestone Super Bowl commercials? The one where Aikman was throwing the football (that curved in the air) and had Deion Sanders in it?

"Kevin Butler" is the guy doing the dance at the end.

I have a feeling that we haven't been told prices because we won't like them. I want to be wrong but I'm half expecting DD games to not work out cheaper than retail at all.

We did see that one screen from a retailer suggesting that DD games would be 10% cheaper. I'm not sure retailers are going to be selling cards in store for DD games though.

Yeah, I noticed him.

Most online retailers, sell games at under 10% RRP. I can imagine Sony having 10% off RRP for digital releases, but still be more expensive than the majority of online retail.

I'm not sure how it works in the US but 10% cheaper than RRP here works out more expensive than the price shops sell games on launch day. That's not taking Amazon into account which almost always has launch day discounts on top of that.

Re. advertising, SCEA's already said they won't be starting TV ads and the like until launch.

Maybe the same with SCEE..?

If I was Sony, though, I'd be quite happy with the retail marketing here in Ireland, at least. It's being pushed well by all my local stores. Game had yet more 'stuff' new today on top of the quite generous shelf and window space they'd already given it (i.e. a mini-sized 'tower' thing with hardware and game boxes, which they've put right in the middle of the entrance). Sony does seem to be giving retailers here plenty of crap to put out in their stores.

;_;

I don't plan on buying any physical games on the 22nd, only PSN games (wipeout, double dip HSG, hustle kings maybe, Motorstorm RC, super stardust)

Hopefully they either update on tuesday for once, or update early wednesday morning. Might be worth asking them tomorrow.

rolled through gamestop this morning to pick up a Circle Pad Pro (man that thing is UNCOMFORTABLE), and I remember reading that they'd have Vita display units.

as I love new hardware I thought I'd check it out

and it's enclosed in a plastic bubble... not even running a rolling demo, some error screen.

really gamestop? I was able to get my hands on a 3DS demo unit before launch, and they launched AT THE SAME PRICE.

=/

yeah I know, it's gamestop

I mean, it's all over my local Gamestop, but I think they're missing out by not having a (american)football at launch. When I worked games retail around the PSP launch, Madden was always alive and fresh. I assume FIFA will do that for Europe, but I don't know what the deal is for US.

I know that 50 dollar Vita game thing isn't gonna stick. I can almost guarantee they'll all be 30-40 by the end of the year because people aren't going to buy a 50 dollar vita game when there's plenty of 40 and 30 dollar ones.

Adam Sessler on his soapbox thing mentioned this a week or so ago, gamers know about it, but everyone else........not so much.....

my uneducated guess.....why spend the money on the mass marketing, let the core gamers get it in their hand and then have the system sell itself.

look at the Wii, how many non-gamers knew about that when it released? now, it seems like 90% of american households have a Wii, Apple product, and Coca-Cola, like it's standard issue or something.

again, i don't know anything about nothing, but its like a sit back, seed some units into the wild and watch it grow.
