There is literally nothing funnier in the world than super nerds pretending to mix up sports teams and terms. Not one thing on the planet is funnier than that. Pure comic gold. So good. Wow, I am dying of laughter. It doesn't happen enough, honestly. Especially the week of a big event. I'm so glad there is still a group of pseudo-adults willing to bust out that kind of comedic genius.

I'm pretty sure he's talking to you, Phil.

Although I did honestly mix up a Safety and a Touchback this week. Hilarity ensued.

...Um, ignoring the last sentence's severity, Phil HAS called out others' hacky bits before. I say fair game.

But, geez.

I aims to please!

True story: CJ sent me a text later that day informing me that he had just realized that it wasn't the SF Giants playing in the Superb Bowl.

Oh, wait...Super Bowl? What did I say?

Looks like I deserve some time in the penalty box!

Wait. I'm a bit late here I guess--but, the last episode I listened to was when I moved to Berkeley, and that was back in August; I thought it was your "last episode." I remember this specifically because I was listening to it on a drive up, and it was strange hearing all the talk of the show ending, literally as I was moving out of the town where I spent my 20s.

So I unsubscribed. Is the show back? What in the world...? I'm not moving out of Berkeley just because of you guys! But I guess I could listen again anyway.

I really enjoy this post.

amazing

I understood what CJ was saying about background downloads. I think it would be cool if you saw a game on PSN and started downloading but it was taking awhile so you load up another game and play while you wait for it to finish.

Agree completely. It's very annoying that once you start a game on xbox, downloads stop.

To help SnakeswithLasers out, here's a recap of the past six+ months:

CJ re-united with Kanye West to record a new intro for the show with CJ rapping about Garfield.
Spellbound Interactive, having heard his praise of Giana Sisters, hired Phil to produce a sequel. The company closed after a month.
Stewy saw an advertisement for Dimoxinil, a new "miracle breakthrough" for baldness. His hair is reminiscent of a young Michael J. Fox.
Mike became enraged when a Mormon looking for donations wouldn't accept his check for one cent or a copy of Little Big Planet 2 because the game "sucks".

I've listened to the show for nearly four years.

Player One Podcast

This week! Double Fine’s Adventure Kickstarter project, more Vita, Skylander collecting, SSX, Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword, Mutant Mudds, House of the Dead III (demo), Shank 2, Cards Against Humanity, Uncharted 3 DLC, Metro 2033 and more!

Download

Notes so far:
1. Mike speaks before being introduced this time. I was shocked.
2. It takes Phil two minutes into the episode to sing "I will always love you". I was not shocked at all.

I need to go give money to beggars in Utah. They give you adventure games in return?!

Also, if you're bitching about the lack of funny, new adventure games but haven't played Ceville, you're a dumbass. Play Ceville!

Lastly, if they idiotize Metro, I'm going to be so damn disappointed. There are 10 million accessible shooters released every year, go play one of those. Not every game has to be for the lowest common denominator.

Stewy was the goddamn voice of reason in the whole Kickstarter discussion. Great points through and through. Good stuff.

I could not for the life of me understand Mike's handwringing over kickstarter. He seemed ot be worried that this might hurt the publisher/middle man? Who seriously gives a shit? I'm giving my money directly to Double Fine who is in turn giving me a game that I want. I have no idea how this is even remotely close to either panhandling (as Mike called it) or charity (as Phil alluded to).

I also don't get the "well I don't want to pay their salaries" gripe. What exactly are you doing when you buy any game but funding the production of the next game, i.e. paying the salaries of the people working on The Show or Gran Turismo or whatever anime witch touching game Phil is importing this week.

I agree with that. Anything that cuts out the middle man is a good thing.

Yeah, his point was largely moot because by paying any amount $15 or higher, you get the game at a minimum. Any "donation" $15 or higher is just a pre-order. And obviously, the reason this works in this case is because Schaeffer and Double Fine are a brand that people trust to make a game purchase site-unseen.

The only people who are chumps are those who donated less than $15, because they get no consideration (value) in return.

I didn't even know you could pledge less than $15. I bought Ceville for $30 when it came out. That's a game from a publisher I generally hate and a developer I had never heard of. This was a no brainer bargain for me.

It's also goofy for Mike to assume that the only money this game will generate is from the Kickstarter campaign. It will also be released for sale. Saying that "well the average person is paying $300+ for this game" assumes that no one will ever buy the game once it is released.

I don't know, maybe he was trying to be devil's advocate or something.

One of the thing that i appreciated about typing of the dead is that there were times that the game started insulting you. Making you type words and phrases that make you question if the games was implying something.

The only thing that is iffy about this process is that it blurs the line between investor/client.

For those that payed $15, they should be fine as they payed for what they are getting. Those who gave more, that's basically a donation. There's no return on that, unless i'm missing something here. There are perks that come with giving more than 15, but the value of those is very personal.

I don't know i like minecraft strategy better. You only pay for the game. AFAIK for minecraft the option for more was not there.

It only blurs the line if you have no idea what an investment is. There is no expectation or promise of return. You're paying for exactly what you get.

People who are getting spun up about it seem to be trying to make more of this process than it is. People are paying for goods and/or services. That's it.

You seem a lot more "spun up" about it than I am. ;)

I don't really care either way. There are lots of good, funny adventure games out there--with or without Tim Shafer.

Nah, this is just everyday rage. I'm way more angry about your attempts to moronify my beloved Metro series! Stick to Hal0z!

Have you played Ceville, by the way? I don't think I ever heard anyone talk about it when it came out but man, I really liked it.

I had never heard of it until this thread, but I'll definitely check it out.

And i don't want them to moronify Metro at all. The setting is cool, but what sets it apart from other shooters are those tough-as-nails peculiarities. I really dig it. It's just really, really difficult for me. Lemon difficult.

Plenty of easy peasy lemon squeazy shooters out there for you to play.

I'm going to wait for a price drop on the Vita so don't talk too glowingly about MLB transfarring or you might break my will

I don't think either of us were saying that the Metro sequel needs to appeal to the lowest common denominator. I'm sure there's a middle ground somewhere. And even then, I said Metro is an excellent game.

You didn't, that was an insult for being bad at Metro.

What podcast was Phil joking about regarding a $50k kickstarter program?

RebelFM I assume
