I saw this post in the DoubleFine Kickstarter thread, and it got me thinking:

Despite the fact that this form of financing has been around a while, I wonder if Double Fine's success will be felt almost immediately with a rush of niche genre developers jumping in within the month. Could be the return to the importance once placed on people's names on the box instead of just brand names and franchises.

Who out there would *you* kickstart, if the option became available? I'm mentally running through the list of devs I'd do this for.

Tim Schafer & Ron Gilbert? Implicitly!

Roberta Williams? Probably.
Steve Meretzky? Mayyyybe.
Richard Garriott? Yes, with reservations.
Jon Ritman and Bernie Drummond? Tentatively.
Lawrence Holland and/or Edward Kilham? Definitely.
Brian Moriarty? Absolutely.
Warren Spector? Resoundingly.
Julian Gollop? Immediately.

Brendan McNamara? AHAHAHAHAHAHAno.

To single one out. I think Holland and Kilham would be the biggies for me, I would love to co-fund a new space shooter with their design skills. That said, I've absolutely no idea if they've still got an amicable relationship... or any feasibility to work together. Still, I've got a flightstick, I want to use it!

Edit: There's a few suggestions which wouldn't be all that feasible given how they're already very much locked into a publisher. I've committed the same mistake with Gollop, so I can't complain too much.

Yes! I would kick in for any developer doing an AKI style pro-wrestling game with fire pro like customization.

I'd also Kickstart Project Zero/Fatal Frame team for a PC/360/PS3 game; Spike + Fire Pro Wrestling, and really any Indie dev that has something awesome and interesting they want to make.

Yep. I'm 100% convinced that this needs to happen, and can work. Someone just needs to round up a bunch of indie and Japanese feds and get them to sign on to the project. Can you imagine an AKI game with the combined rosters of ROH, Dragon Gate, CHIKARA, PWG, JAPW, NOAH, NJPW, AJPW, and DDT? Plus an awesome CAW mode?

Yeah. Would be the best thing ever.

Alternatively, I'll just accept a game full of wrestlers changed just enough that AKI can't be sued. :lol AKA the Fire Pro method.

If you're up to importing, try out the PSP Yakuza game, "Ryu ga Gotoku: Kurohyou".

"Syn Sophia" is the new name of the team formerly known as AKI, and you can definitely tell it was them who made the game. Even some of the animations from their wrestling/brawling games are recycled in that game!


Anyway, my choice would be Craft & Meister (Super DBZ, Earth Seeker). These guys are made up of ex-Capcom talent that could easily be making awesome fighting games of their own, if even their most recent Super DBZ is anything to go by. I'd love to see them try again.
