Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter project by Double Fine [ended, $3.3 Million funded]

Might as well post it here too: on twitter Chris Avellone expressed interest in kickstarting an old school RPG.
This is becoming huge, I can feel it. (or at least it's just what I'm hoping.)

Old men, running the world -> A NEW AGE

Almost 200% of their goal and it hasn't even been 24 hours.

The question is no longer if this will reach $1 million--it's now how many millions it will go.

This would do so much more than an internet petition.

Damn, if companies started up kickstarters for PC ports of stuff like Dark Souls/Red Dead Redemption, I'd be broke!

Anyone else wish that they would take the excess money and make another game with it instead? If this keeps up and it hits, say $1.5 million, I wish they would split it in half (with some for th documentary) and make two adventure games instead of one released on every platform you can think of :p

Wow, almost at 800k!
I'll donate 30, I hope this turns out well.
I'd definitely donate for a PC version of Demons Souls or a Doom sequel in the Brutal Doom vein or a proper Blood 2 by Monolith.

OH GOD YES

I'm not sure if Japanese devs would resort to this kind of thing, though...

Besides Capcom, of course. They don't give a mother fuck.

Huh, didn't know what "kickstarter"meant (figured it was some sort of petition thing or whatever) so I hadn't bothered to click on the thread. Really cool that this has apparently worked out well for them. That comment from Avellone is even more promising.

I'd like to see it all go towards a single game, I think a budget of say, 2-3 million vs. 500 thousand would allow for a more fully fleshed out expansive adventure that can be polished to a shine.

I was having trouble sleeping last night so I was awake when they hit 400k.

Now when I wake up this morning I find that they've DOUBLED it?

I thought for sure that the donations would begin to slow down once they've hit their goal. I am in awe.

Damn it! Tried pledging $15 but Amazon Payments won't let me for some reason.

Oh well, time to contact them.

I assume that this game that they are making is Ron Gilberts secret game he has been working on since joining Double Fine?

Which means that it will not be a rushed game developed to prove a point. Instead it will be a project that already has much pre-production made, and is based on a concept Ron Gilbert has had in his mind since Maniac Mansion.

And that now has more funds available that they actually needed.

That is........awesome.

I think Ron Gilbert's game was a separate project.

get the PC version :P

The cinemas are standard def and butt ugly. If they saved all the assets and animation files they should be able to have an intern sit down and rerender them. Also, the PC version needs to display the 360 controller buttons instead of the keyboard keys on the GUI (when playing with contoller). There's some tweaking to be done, I'm sure there's a few other things that could be adjusted as well. I'd like to see a real Psychonauts HD for multiple platforms.

There's a mod that displays the 360 controller buttons. I could find it if you'd like.

But as good as throwing $$$ at a game can make it, DF games really shine with their sense of humour. There's definitely a point of diminishing returns, so I'd rather DF turned it into multiple games and made even more money. I want them to do very well, because they really do output unique and genuinely funny games--something we don't have nearly enough of in the gaming industry.

Yep Al Lowe is in the house and coming to GTTV next week for an exclusive! True legend in the house.

WoooooooooOOOOoooOoOoooOOooo!

UPDATE: We did it! 100% funded in just over eight hours. You people are amazing! But it's not over yet. The number keeps going up and now the question is just how much news do we want to make with this? We're getting a lot of attention already and it seems like this little project could have an impact beyond itself.

All money raised will go to make the game and documentary better. Additional money means it can appear on more platforms, be translated into more languages, have more music and voice, and an original soundtrack for the documentary, and more!

Your backing and comments have been truly inspiring to me and the team, so on behalf of Double Fine and 2 Player Productions I want to say THANK YOU!!!

YES YES YES!!! More music, more voice, more consoles, OH MY!

PS3, 360 AND MORE! NOW! NOW!

KEEP ON PAYING, GAF!!

(I hope it's a PSN/XBLA title and comes with a DL code for those that want it on PS3/360 instead. That will seriously make it that much awesome).

So it took Tim Schafer and DF to break the $1 million barrier on kickstarter. Wow. Pretty neat.

kickstarter's hopefully getting a few more fans, as well. Lotta cool projects in massively diverse arenas.

Psh, Double Fine is in Cali. Pacific is the obvious time to go by. Thus still ~14 hrs left in the day :D

Americans are behind :D

$820k now! Gogogo! I think I'll throw in a pledge as soon as we get to know more about the game. I can't say I'm really interested in the game per se, as I don't care for any of their games besides Psychonauts, but Tim is such an ace guy I think they deserve it.
